Hi ladies,

What's everyone doing about nct?
Thought I had ages yet, but had my checkup with the midwife this week and she told me I need to get booked onto a course quick as they fill up.

Are you doing NCT or another scheme? If NCT are you going for the essentials or signature?

AnotherOriginalUsername · 06/07/2018 20:11

@shallen I've just sold a kidney to pay for mine. I think it's the signature one as that's all that was offered.

orangejuicer · 06/07/2018 20:17

Thought about NCT until I saw the price!

Friend of mine didn't bother but did say there was an online course which was useful, as was hypnobirthing.

hammeringinmyhead · 06/07/2018 20:28

We booked NCT for September in early May and only just made the deadline. They only offer the signature course. I will take any and all advice I can get.

shallen · 06/07/2018 20:28

@AnotherOriginalUsername @orangejuicer oh god really?! Didn't get as far as the price..... eek!
We have another option (birth matters) but I think that's just in my local area, might investigate that too.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 06/07/2018 20:41

Was £210 here, not sure if it varies by area. My only other option was hypnobirthing but that seemed a bit of a waste of time for me as I'm strictly pain free and push free!

The main reason I did NCT was because I was told to(!) for the social side of it more than anything.

orangejuicer · 06/07/2018 20:46

My partner and I are naturally unsociable people so we aren't that fussed Grin
And yes shallen same as AOU here - £200.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 06/07/2018 20:49

@orangejuicer I am too, but apparently maternity leave is very lonely!!

orangejuicer · 06/07/2018 20:56

I am expecting to be going stir crazy within a week! Bit if a workaholic Confused

AnotherOriginalUsername · 06/07/2018 21:20

My flat working week is 45 hours and I usually do extra and I absolutely love my job but I'm actually looking forward to some time off and going back part time! I've worked 40+ hours a week since I was 18

Italianshark · 06/07/2018 21:44

What is nct?! 🧐

shallen · 06/07/2018 21:55

@AnotherOriginalUsername just looked it up, it's £300 here! Still think I might do it though as were both absolutely clueless! Plus all my mum friends swear by it for meeting people going through the same thing as you! It's apparently good for new wine buddies!

@Italianshark it stands for national childcare trust (I think), it's basically classes for you and partner for pregnancy, birth and early new baby.

Arcarnex · 07/07/2018 01:51

Hi, hope it's okay to join in the convo. Due in December and have never really been the type to be broody but finding myself mentally cursing other pregnant women for having a bigger bump than me xD has anyone else had this?

ReiofHope · 07/07/2018 05:28

Is anyone else experiencing pain in their hips and bum?
I keep being unable to move if I've been lying down or even sitting sometimes.

Emma198 · 07/07/2018 06:22

I do @Rei. Does the pain in your bum go down back of your leg? Mine is sciatica and the pain in my hips is apparently SPD. Lovely!

OP posts:
shallen · 07/07/2018 10:21

@ReiofHope yes I had shooting siatica style pains from about week 12 till week 16, really painful, struggled to sleep and almost like my leg would give way when getting off very soft sofa or bed. Sitting/sleeping on something a bit firmer helped as did sleeping with a pillow between my legs.
I have a physio appointment booked but not till the end of this month. Touch wood it seems to have gone for now, let's hope it stays away.

MW and gp said its due to pelvis and ligaments moving to get ready for baby.

Melaniesunflower · 07/07/2018 11:56

We don't have any nct locally here, so I'm going to start a Daisy Birthing in a few weeks. I like the idea of the yoga element as well

I occasionally get a sciatic type pain in my left butt cheek, luckily it comes and goes. I spoke with a physio at work, who is recently back from May leave who recommended pelvic lifts, also trying a birthing ball

orangejuicer · 08/07/2018 12:01

Anybody else dealing with back pain? Hmm

Emma198 · 09/07/2018 22:48

How are you all feeling? Who is still to have 20 week scans - are you finding out what you're having? xx

OP posts:
ND348 · 10/07/2018 07:18

20 week scan not until.next week for me. But we had A gender scan last week so know we are having little girl! Still adjusting to saying she rather than it....!

AnotherOriginalUsername · 10/07/2018 07:27

My 20 week scan is next week on 19th

GreenGooner · 10/07/2018 07:32

Morning all. My scan is this Friday (Friday 13th 😳) we can't resist the temptation so going to find out what we're having.

Melaniesunflower · 10/07/2018 08:27

20 week scan on Thursday, really looking forward to it!!!!! We plan to stay strong and remain team yellow

Emma198 · 10/07/2018 09:04

I'm really anxious about mine! Sat up last night reading all the NHS leaflets about the things they're looking for. Need to pull myself together!

OP posts:
GreenGooner · 10/07/2018 09:15

I'm anxious too but had some definite kicks now so taking that as a good sign (not so much so at 5.30am each morning though).

We're nearly at the half way point now...
