Struggling with craving for a beer in the sunshine

Anyone else? Before I got pregnant I drank pretty regularly. I've been completely sober since 4+4 when I found out I was pregnant but this weather just makes me want to sit in the sun with a nice cold beer. It's driving me nuts Envy

My solution is to find a low or no alcohol beer and some good quality lemonade that you can get really cold in the freezer and have a shandy. I don't like the taste of alcohol free beer generally but once you mix it with lemonade it scratches the itch.

Not the question you asked but robinsons do a lime and mint cordial that with a load of ice and soda water (or ginger ale in my case) is a very respectable mojito substitute.

usernotfound0000 · 20/04/2018 12:49

Yes! Yesterday walking in the sun I just really wanted a beer! Once I hit 12 weeks, if we get any sun again, I'll indulge in a weak shandy.

usernotfound0000 · 20/04/2018 12:50

Floyd can you recommend any good no alcohol beers? In my last pregnancy, I had a holiday in Majorca and they has San Miguel no alcohol beer and it was just like the real stuff but am yet to find a good enough replacement in this country.

KTD27 · 20/04/2018 12:51

Yes. But in my case it was rosé yesterday. I quite like becks blue and the koppaberg non alcoholic cider is fine too (if a little sweet) but wine. There is no substitute. Sad 12 weeks to go...

QueenOfMyWorld · 20/04/2018 12:55

Becks alcohol free tastes exactly the same as normal one

YesILikeItToo · 20/04/2018 12:58

Sainsbury’s sell the San Miguel stuff.

Becks Blue is fine, if you haven’t had a beer for a while. I’m obsessed with BrewDogs Nanny State, which is more of an IPA than a lager. I think they made it originally as some sort of protest or joke, because it was never actually available in stock anywhere, but now loads of supermarkets and other outlets have it.

itallhappensforareason · 20/04/2018 12:58

I've never been a big drinker at all but there is something about the lovely sunny weather that just makes you want to sit in the pub garden with an alcoholic beverage. I really like the peach Stella Artois cider - would go down a treat!!

coldestwinter · 20/04/2018 12:58

Heineken 0.0% is delicious! Off to the shops to pick up a pack for this evening myself Grin

FloydOnThePull · 20/04/2018 13:05

Sainsbury's sell the alcohol free San Miguel and of the alcohol free lagers this is my favourite by quite some distance. Becks blue is probably the most widely available and usually the only pub option - it's ok in my opinion but unless I really wanted the taste of beer I'd probably go for a soft drink over Becks blue. Grolsch also do a decent 0% lager

I've found that the alcohol free wheat beers are much better overall than the lagers, Erdinger do one and there's Bavaria Wit 0.0% but my favourite is probably the Schneider Weisse or Franziskaner.

In my opinion (and this seems to divide people who have had it) by far the worst of the alcohol free options is nanny state by Brewdog, it's very sharply fizzy and to me tastes like soda water but with a weird after taste.

A couple of good low alcohol options if that's your choice are the supermarket stubby bottles of lager (good for shandy making) and Fosters Radlers - both of these are 2%

All of these are available in Sainsburys

PeapodBurgundy · 20/04/2018 13:05

I was just coming on the recommeenr the Becks Blue. It's alcohol free (maximum of 0.05% alcohol content). We had a BBQ last night, and I enjoyed two bottles immensely :-)

PeapodBurgundy · 20/04/2018 13:05

*recommend

usernotfound0000 · 20/04/2018 13:07

This is excellent news that I can get San Miguel in Sainsbury's! I haven't actually looked this pregnancy but 4 years ago I couldn't find it anywhere. I know where I'm going tonight!!

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 20/04/2018 13:07

Becks Blue, tastes like real beer.

Belles86 · 20/04/2018 13:12

this is all very useful information! If I'm honest, I've been wanting a beer since before the sun came out..

TinyTerror1 · 20/04/2018 13:13

Thanks everyone. Glad it's not just me! Might have to make a trip to Sainsbury's...

Yes!! Not beer for me but cider, gin or wine! The rekordlig/kopperberg is ok but ditto a pp it's a bit sweet for more than 1!
I tried a low alcohol gin from Tesco which was just terrible 😩 I had such high hopes! And wine, I just think it's blasphemy to be non alcoholic!

On the beer front, DH is a big beer drinker but went alcohol free for 5 months last year. Said becks was terrible and too artificial but Erdringer was the best he found. Difficult to get in bars but Sainsbury's do it 👌🏻

PeapodBurgundy · 20/04/2018 13:15

Morrisons had a full section of alcohol free beer if Sainsburys is limited. I wasn't expecting to find any, but in reality I could choose what I wanted. It was a lovely surprise on a hot day :-)

justabunchofbunting · 20/04/2018 13:16

You can get lovely alcohol free beer! Failing that can you not just mix a little with lemonade? If its lager that is.

Also for anyone interested Kopparberg now do an alcohol free cider in several fruit flavours as well and its lush!

ThereIsIron · 20/04/2018 13:17

One beer won't do any harm. Heineken 0% is the best of the no-alcohol beers.

Welshchloe · 20/04/2018 13:17

im 10 weeks today and i miss wine. Me and hubby to be went out last night for a meal and i really wanted a glass of wine last night with the meal i was thinking of trying the alcohol free wine this weekend

olicat · 20/04/2018 13:20

Another vote for Heineken 0%!

Bubblesblue · 20/04/2018 13:25

Another vote for heineken 0.0 here. Delicious.
Also, if you like fruit cider then kopperberg do lovely non alcoholic ones

sashh · 20/04/2018 13:26

Another vote for Becks blue, it tastes just like Becks.

polkadotpixie · 20/04/2018 13:36

I don't drink and the best alcohol free beers I've found are Bavaria and Budweiser alcohol free. I can't stand Becks Blue, Cobra 0% or Brewdog Nanny State, they're all too chemical tasting

Mississippilessly · 20/04/2018 13:37

I'm 20 weeks and had a shandy yesterday - it was so lovely> I haven't made a habit of drinking but I decided one weak one wasn't going to hurt. Thanks for the recommendations, off to go get myself some Becks Blue!
