Reduced Movement 37 Weeks...waiting...

Hello,

Currently doing the "lay on my side for 2 hours" thing as advised by a midwife when I phoned up worried about reduced movement. I'm 37+3 and got the feeling they were super busy when I phoned :(

Half an hour in and haven't felt a thing and getting super super worried! I'm not sure if I've felt little flutters but they are just cushioned now due to the baby being so big?

Has anyone any experience of this?

Thanks!

We're all here thinking of you and hoping you get seen soon. Maybe ask the next mw who passes if anyone can see you soon? Try not to panic.

I also didn't know what I was having and yes everyone seemed surprised! When she was born the midwives said they love surprises as telling you what you've had is the best bit! That'll be you soon xx

Counter27 · 31/03/2018 23:34

Fingers crossed for you. I was in for something very similar at 30 weeks and all turned out okay. Definitely speak to a midwife and get them to get you on the machine asap!

Stinkbomb · 31/03/2018 23:34

I was the same butternutsquash with my second, I was there at least once every week, although I was understandably anxious x

butternutsquashe · 31/03/2018 23:42

Have they called you in?

BrutusMcDogface · 31/03/2018 23:43

Hope all is well Flowers

Stinkbomb · 31/03/2018 23:43

Have you managed to get seen?

AssassinatedBeauty · 31/03/2018 23:44

I had reduced and then no movement at 37 + 4, I was taken seriously and listened to when I said I'd not felt any movements at all that morning despite eating sugary food and lying on my side. They had me in and on a monitor straightaway, and the trace showed no movement for the duration of the monitoring, although the heart beat was present, but not showing any of the normal variation. I had an EMCS within 3 hours of presenting at hospital, and DS2 was born very unwell and if it had been any longer I don't think he would have made it.

I really hope they get you checked out soon, I'm surprised that they've kept you waiting so long already.

PissedOffNeighbour · 31/03/2018 23:44

Hope everything ok OP. I also went in for reduced/lack of movement and thankfully everything was alright. Hopefully you will have the same outcome.

MumApr18 · 31/03/2018 23:51

I'm in! Hooked up to the trace and the first ten mins the midwife said it was good but no movements to go with the heartbeat. Seems to be hovering around the 140-150 mark. She's left me another 10 mins and hopefully baby will start moving.

Not sure if good trace but no movements means there is a problem but I'm sure I'll find out soon.

So glad baby’s heart is okay. Baby might’ve sleeping.

AssassinatedBeauty · 31/03/2018 23:58

I hope baby is just sleeping and you'll get some movement soon.

Stinkbomb · 01/04/2018 00:00

So pleased you're hooked up and your babies heartbeat is good - also, you are at term so if they are concerned you are in the right place xxx is your DP coming to you?

Badumdumdum · 01/04/2018 00:02

I'm really glad you are being seen.
Thrley need to see movements with the heartbeat. If it doesn't improve they should scan you. At 37 +3 you are safe to be induced.
Regarding the lie down for 2 hours advice - that's rubbish. I tried that only to go to the hospital later to be told my son had already died.
OP - you have a heartbeat. Your child is alive. But may be poorly. Do NOT be fobbed off.

LampHat · 01/04/2018 00:03

Bet you’re glad to hear that heartbeat! Just to warn you, I had the same with a heartbeat but no movement and they wanted the baby out ASAP. DS was born by c-section about 30 mins later. You might want to warn your DH in case he needs to get in a taxi!

Hope your night is a bit less dramatic than mine was though, and your baby starts doing some nice wiggling soon Wink

MumApr18 · 01/04/2018 00:06

Thank you so much for being so honest! I'm waiting on the MW coming back and will ask her seriously if DP should come up - he can be here in 10 mins. Luckily I actually finished packing bags and stuff today!!

I felt one movement but it was up at the top of my bump so the movement patch thing that's hooked up didn't catch it as it's down at the bottom of my bump. I will mention it o the MW when she comes back.

Wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you at such a worrying time. No words of wisdom but that first midwife you spoke to was unprofessional in my opinion and I'm glad you went with your instincts and went in anyway.
You're in the right place and I'm sure all is fine, good to get checked

Sushirolls · 01/04/2018 00:08

Thinking of you OP Flowers xo

MumApr18 · 01/04/2018 00:08

@Badumdumdum I am so sorry that happened to you. How absolutely terrible. I'm so glad I am here - if anything happens though I will be so bitter if it turns out that the outcome could have been better if I had come up 2 hours earlier!

OP posts:
Stinkbomb · 01/04/2018 00:13

I'll be perfectly honest, I went to the midwife with reduced movement, the heard the heartbeat so sent me the very to the hospital to check, had to wait a while to be seen, when I finally was, I was immediately hooked up to scan, saw a tiny twitch of movement and was immediately taken for an EMCS.
Sadly my baby had been deprived of oxygen due to blood clots in the placenta and died 2 days later.
This is why it's never good advice that the midwife gave you - if I'd have gone in earlier, there's a small chance that things would have been different.
Anyway, I didn't want to scare you, sorry x

ceestar · 01/04/2018 00:16

Please let us know how it goes OP! X

MumApr18 · 01/04/2018 00:21

@Stinkbomb thank you for the no bullsh**. That must have been horrendous for you, I'm so sorry.

The baby's heartbeat is still around the 140-150 mark. MW came back and said the trace is still good but wanted me on another 10 mins and gave me a buzzer to press if I feel baby moving...want to ask loads of questions but scared of the answers!

Don't leave the hospital until you feel sure everything is ok OP

Mrsrochesterscat · 01/04/2018 00:25

Get your DP in, let him come and take care of you. He can ask the questions and also kick up a fuss (it looks like you’ll need to)

Stinkbomb · 01/04/2018 00:26

Ask the questions lovely, you're in the right place xxx
It's great that your baby's heartbeat is strong, I would try to push for a scan though (which I expect is what they are thinking), depending on what movements you feel- if you can, ask them to check the blood flow and oxygen levels through the cord, it is something that really ought to be done as standard but isn't. Xxx

Mrsrochesterscat · 01/04/2018 00:27

It’s sad that we need advocates in these situations, but we do. It’s difficult being scared and worried about being linked as “over reacting” or “being unreasonable”. Sometimes just having that extra person there to speak up for you, and to reassure you is needed. This is one of those occasions Flowers
