How long did your induction last?

Been in for 15 hours now and not even the slightest twinge... they've even stopped checking on me.
I assumed with induction I'd be in some intense pain then out quite quickly.
How long did your inductions take? I'm so bored!

First pessary at 9am, 2nd at 3.30pm. DC born 7.35pm. Was 12 days overdue. Sorry!

Hope things get going for you soon.

bonzo77 · 09/03/2018 17:18

60 hours give or take with absolutely nothing happening. Zilch. Ended in a very calm non-urgent but un-planned CS.

Lulu2515 · 09/03/2018 17:23

Oh man. And for those that had a non-emergency c section, did you have to have steroids?

Literally a few hours .... I don't think my body knew what to do... it just needed a kick start.

Your little person will be there soon x

Had a pessary at 12pm on the Wednesday, my waters broke at 12am and I got intense pains (back labour) so much so they had to give me diamorphine and antisickness injections so I could sleep, checked me at 3am and 7am and I was only 1cm 🙈 they took me to a labour suite at 4pm and started me on a drip and by 5.30 I was begging for an epidural, dilated really fast from 3cm-9cm in a short space of time but my daughter wouldn't come down the birthing canal and her heart rate was dropping with each contraction, ended up with an emcs at 12.40am Friday morning 🙈

I was on the antenatal ward while pregnant with dc5 and saw loads of women having inductions that took several days to get going.

I was booked in to be induced with dc3 and dc5. Dc3 I get to maternity ward at 9am. Get examined at 10am and I'm 3cm dilated. No need for pessary, I can go straight to drip when there is room on labour ward. 10 hours later there is a room free on labour ward. I'm now 5cm dilated so decline the induction and baby born 2 hours later.

With dc5 I go in at 10am with bleeding. Am nil by mouth while they decide what to do. At 6pm they decide to induce me and I'm allowed to drink water. At 9pm i'm 2cm dilated and they start inducing me with the drip. At 1am I'm 4cm dilated. At 1.30am I'm 5cm but baby in distress and I have an infection. At 1.53am baby is born by emcs.

5 hours

Lavenderdays · 09/03/2018 19:08

I am feeling really deflated by the majority of these posts. I was under the impression that it would happen pretty quickly.
Sorry to hear you are having such a long wait Lulu.
I have two other dc's that need caring for and I have no extended family and I cant expect someone to look after my dc's for 3 days straight so dh will have to pop in and out of hospital because I would like him to be with me. What a headache; they have suggested inducing me because of my age etc. now I'm not so sure what to do or whether a C-section would be preferable (was trying to avoid this) but it seems that many babies end up being born by emcs anyway and I would rather it be calm and planned. Come on baby, put in an appearance sooner rather than later

Lulu2515 · 09/03/2018 19:27

@Lavenderdays sorry to bring you down with me! If it's any consolation, I think I'm having some contractions now.

DP went home last night to sleep and also because my mum can't cope so at least with it being slow, your DP could do some of the childcare.

First baby induction took 3 days and my waters being broken to get things going.
Second it all kicked off within about 4-5 hours.

strawberrypenguin · 09/03/2018 19:31

Oh and congratulations on your imminent arrival!

LostMyBaubles · 09/03/2018 19:36

mintich · 09/03/2018 19:39

4 days from pessary but 24 hours from having my waters broken

mintich · 09/03/2018 19:39

Ps I was put on drop after waters broken so about 22 hours on drip

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 09/03/2018 19:40

About 4 hours but I jogged up and down the stairs, stepped up 2 at a time and ran up down on the bottom step for about half an hour. The nurses were a bit shell shocked to be honest Blush

Admitted with a bleed at 39 weeks on Friday morning, about to be consented for emergency C section as they thought it could be placenta but did a scan and decided it wasn’t, told would be an induction instead, 2x 24 hour pessaries failed, was kept on delivery suite the whole time, stressed out and barely slept at all, sunday night they did a different gel thing and were finally able to break my waters and went on the synto drip, contractions went from 0-60 and i begged for and got an epidural, but then baby started getting distressed and ended up haveif emergency C section. anyway on monday morning 0730. I would never have chosen induction but unfelt i wasn’t given the choice, the emcs was fine I wish they had just got on with it in the first instance

Lulu2515 · 09/03/2018 19:44

Fueled oh my god I think I'd pass out and wet myself from a jog right Now!
Currently hooked up to the monitor and hoping it's reading these first contractions as I'm feeling them

Starting in my own live birth thread All my hopes and dreams

Started 10am Saturday morning, baby born by EMCS on Tuesday at 7pm! Sorry!

Whatififall · 09/03/2018 19:48

Good luck Lulu!

My induction started at 9am Saturday morning, 3 pessaries, waters broken for me, and a syntocin drip later...DD was born naturally on Monday evening.

pimlicolife · 09/03/2018 19:56

Mine took 2 hours until I was pushing.

I was a bit miffed as I'd downloaded hours of good stuff to watch on my iPad! Smile

hatetosayitoldyouso · 09/03/2018 19:56

First induction with baby no.2 - pessary inserted in the afternoon, contractions started hour or so later continuously until baby arrived before 8pm.

Second induction with 3rd baby - first pessary inserted just after 12, contractions here and there but nothing major, 2nd pessary inserted after 6pm. Contractions started continuously until baby arrived just after 1.30am.

Both inductions went smoothly, once contractions started I never got a break, they came every 1-2 minutes, same with spontaneous 1st labour. I think I thought baby no.3 would have been a quick induction, got my hopes up but ended up being longest.

Lavenderdays · 09/03/2018 19:57

Lulu...Don't feel bad...this is the reality of it and I need to know the reality. Wishing you all the best x

LadesC · 09/03/2018 20:02

Pessary 530pm. 1st pains 1130pm. Baby born 420am. So 11hrs start to finish....1st baby, induced 37+2.

StylishDuck · 09/03/2018 20:53

I was induced with both of mine. Both times it took all 3 pessaries before contractions got going. My waters broke the first time after the 3rd pessary then it ramped up pretty quickly and DD arrived with the help of forceps about 18 hours later. I had to have my waters broken for me with DS and ended up needing an EMCS (facial presentation) so he arrived about 8 hours after my waters going. Hang in there! Thanks

wafflesandpeas · 09/03/2018 21:15

4 days, 3 pessaries, 17 hours of drip and contractions, 2 and a half hours of pushing ending in an emergency section. Possibly not the best example. But no one told me that it could end up like this!
