My waters went today and I am being induced at 8:30 tomorrow morning if contractions don't start on their own! Excited and nervous!!!

Bez9087 · 05/04/2018 00:12

@madrainbow glad you have been discharged and are on your way to her. Fingers crossed it was just a small blip at the start and she doesn’t have any more. Just remember to take it easy aswell for your recovery. Flowers
Ooo good luck @aprillce hope bubs doesn’t keep you waiting too long

Frogqueen13 · 05/04/2018 00:30

Can I join?

Pregnancy 4, I have 10 yr old DD1 (who has autism) DD2 who is 6 and is the easiest child in the world
I had a miscarriage in 2016 and now expecting a little boy on 26th April but I'm booked in for a section on 19th

I'm currently in hospital with a kidney infection, and being treated with steroids and antibiotics.

Bez9087 · 05/04/2018 04:30

Hi @frogqueen. Sorry to hear your currently unwell. It’s good they are keeping a close eye on you. How you feeling leading up to your section? Not long now.

Rae2017 · 05/04/2018 08:29

@madrainbow congrats on your little bundle. So glad you've been discharged and can can be with her and like you said, hopefully it was a one off.

@bez thanks - think I might go snack shopping later so that I am stocked up and ready!

Frogqueen13 · 05/04/2018 08:41

I'm feeling ok keen to get home now but I'm being well looked after

I'm starting to get nervous about the section they did about 8 electives yesterday and everyone looked relaxed 😌 so hopefully they can work there magic with me now

AnnaMadden · 05/04/2018 10:18

@AprilIce exciting! Hope you get your newborn snuggles soon x

amysaurus87 · 05/04/2018 14:04

Afternoon all! Had my GTT this morning, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but that drink is vile and I like sweet things! It was like drinking coke pre-mix 🤢. I'll get the results back tomorrow so fingers are crossed that its all clear! Though not sure what I can do to manage any potential diabetes when I'm due in 10 days!

This might seem like a daft question, but for you ladies who have given birth already, was it obvious when your waters broke? And did you have contractions first? Or did your waters go first? The midwife I spoke to this morning was less than helpful when I asked! And sadly all my ante natal classes that would have covered this got cancelled because of the snow we had a month or so ago!

Fieau · 05/04/2018 14:29

I got the results of my GTT this morning, 4.8 and then 5.3 if that means anything To anyone! Is good news as means I don't have diabetes to worry about, but now they need to investigate any other reasons for large baby/hyperamniosis.

Have been having period like pain for a few days now and midwife says the babies head is right down so just to be ready. Excited now and just want the baby to be here safe and sound! Only 38 weeks tomorrow though so might have another four weeks to wait?? Shock

TobleroneBoo · 05/04/2018 20:23

I'm 39 weeks today, and I'm rather naively hoping labour is far less painful than the piles I've developed 🙈🙈🙈

HarryHarry · 06/04/2018 03:50

Hi everyone, hope all is well.

I saw my doctor again today. She said my cervix is still closed Angry but 'changing'. In my notes she wrote that it was 25% 'ajar' (or at least that's how Google translated it). Back again on Tuesday.

ICantThinkOfAGoodOne · 06/04/2018 08:07

Last day at work for me today! Bang on 36 weeks too. Got my scan on Monday.

I'm now convinced baby is going to come before 40 weeks. It's low anyway and pushing SO HARD on my pubic bone all the time! It wants out 😄

GTT ladies, sorry your drinks have been so gross - mine wasn't too bad, lightly lemony. Hope you all get the all clear!

emvy · 06/04/2018 09:04

Harry, that’s so annoying! I’m guessing it’s thinning out ready to start dilating so that must be a good thing - maybe 25% thinned out? I remember the midwife at my antenatal class saying it starts off hard and then softens to feel like the side of your cheek and then eventually dilation begins once it’s entirely thinned out.

Toblerone, I hope your piles clear up that sounds horrid! Have you got cream? I was antibiotics last week for a chest infection that it didn’t clear up so I still have a horrible cough. All the antibiotics did was give me thrush! Feeling very fed up with it all.

Fieau, glad your GTT results were clear! Hope your other tests go okay.

amysauraus, I’m assuming she was unhelpful because there’s no way of her possibly knowing how you’ll go into labour - it could be any of the ways you describe! Some people go straight into contractions without even being aware they’ve lost their plug and waters go later. Others, waters go first and contractions start later. You basically could have signs weeks or days before you start labour or you could have no signs whatsoever and suddenly go straight into labour. There’s absolutely no way of knowing!

Hope all the little ones are doing well!

Fieau · 06/04/2018 09:12

I've had a bad night and I'm feeling sorry for myself. Had such bad backache which came and went and meant I couldn't get comfy or get any relief. At one point I started panicking that it was labour.... Which I am maybe more scared of than I had realised. I mean, I'm 38 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Going into labour is sort of expected!

Will I definitely know the difference of contractions starting instead of just other pains??

ToriRay · 06/04/2018 09:18

Will I definitely know the difference of contractions starting instead of just other pains??

I worry about this and I've already had a baby! Grin
You do just kind of know! I'm due on the 10th and seem to do one night ok sleep, one night NO sleep! My back and pelvis are sore when I turn over, but I keep repeating 'not much longer now!' Hope you can get some time to rest today!

amysaurus87 · 06/04/2018 10:05

Thanks @emvy I guess I'm just worried about my waters breaking and not knowing it's happened, especially as I have the added risk with excess amniotic fluid that I could have a cord prolapse, which is terrifying me at the moment.

@fieau I feel the same!! I'm so worried that I won't know I'm having contractions and just ignore them!

emvy · 06/04/2018 13:16

amysaurus, from what I’ve read/been told your waters will either trickle or gush so you’d know either way as they basically won’t stop coming. I’ve heard of hind waters being able to leak on and off if baby’s head is blocking the cervix so it comes and goes but again, I think it’s enough for you to recognise as more than just cervical mucus. I’ve also heard of some women not being sure if they’d wet themselves but in these cases, had rung the maternity unit and got the waters tested to confirm what they were. So I wouldn’t worry too much as you should notice enough to alert you.

Fieau and ToriRay, I’ve been thinking a little about this too. I’m just hoping that when the time comes we will just know! They’re said to increase in regularity and intensity so that’s what I’m looking out for. Last night, they were pretty intense but they were very irregular so I was waiting to see if they became more regular. They didn’t and this morning I was fine so clearly nothing to worry about. It’s so unlikely for women not to make it to hospital/birth centre and deliver en route so I’m assuming we’ll be well aware by the time things really kick off! Also, they’re meant to be so painful you can’t talk through them once you get into active labour so I’m assuming there’s no way we’d be able to ignore them.

All of this coming from someone who has never given birth but has read so many hundreds of birth stories Grin

ToriRay · 06/04/2018 13:23

@emvy I guess that there is so many different ways things can progress it's just wondering how it will happen!
My first labour was so straightforward and actually quite manageable, which makes me more worried actually as I would like it exactly the same as last time (which I know is not guaranteed!) my waters never actually broke fully, and I had them broken when I was in the labour suite, so I don't actually know what it feels like for them to break naturally! (I was contracting for hours before!)

Has anyone tried/heard of Clary Sage oil as a natural way to bring on labour? X

Fieau · 06/04/2018 14:13

@toriray my understanding of Clary sage is that it doesn't bring on labour but helps make the second stage more intense and faster. I think it just makes contractions more effective rather than actually causing contractions.

My midwife says the only natural method to induce labour which has been proven to work is having sex as the sperm have an effect on the cervix.

ToriRay · 06/04/2018 14:20

Thanks @Fieau . I feared that! Going to google the seduction techniques of the Blue Whale to get some tips...

amysaurus87 · 06/04/2018 15:07

Thanks @emvy 😁 that makes sense!

Got my GTT results back this morning and got the all clear, so not sure what's caused the polyhydramnios, I'm not going to stress to much as I'm due in 9 days!! Can't believe how quick the last 9 months have gone!

Loosemoose28 · 06/04/2018 16:56

Clary Sage ripens the cervix so when the baby gives off proteins/ hormones to labour it makes the cervix more receptive to the hormone changes.

Regards to in labour it can help the flow of hormones (oxytocin). If your in good strong labour you don’t need it. But if things stall for any reason clary sage is a brilliant bump start.

Yustynne · 06/04/2018 17:48

MadRainbow, all the best wishes for you and your little princess!
ToriRay, I bet it will be so exciting for you to find out your baby's gender only after the baby is born. Did you do the same with your first one? I was really dying to find out my baby's gender so I had to go for a private scan. And...it's a baby girl!!! I'm very excitedSmile

Frogqueen13 · 06/04/2018 18:01

My friend had undiagnosed poly hydra minis and where her waters went it was like a tidal wave, we look back and laugh now but the sheer volume of fluid was crazy.

No cause was found for it though at all

I am currently sat on my antenatal ward, day 5 now, still having treatment for this kidney infection, just eaten my dinner and my boobs have literally exploded.

There is milk everywhere I have a breast pad taped to each tit I'm soaked the lady sat opposite me is traumatised

I'm hoping this is a sign of impeding labour 😂😂😂

My mums gone on a mercy mission to Asda to get me some bras

HarryHarry · 07/04/2018 02:59

Frogqueen13 Just after reading what you wrote, it happened to me too! It wasn't an explosion - luckily. I got up to find one side of my t-shirt with a big wet patch on it. Just the latest indignity of pregnancy! Smile
