Arguments over pink pram!

Summerbaby2018 · 03/03/2018 14:24

So I am either going to get icandy or egg but found out the icandy colour I wanted ( butterscotch) is being discontinued so that's left me stranded I don't want a black pram for a girl as I'm girly myself but my partner refuses to push a pink pram? Has anyone else's partner felt the same or is mine just being an arse as usual about decisions? I wanted to go for this one

OP another nice option is the icandy royal - we have it and love it, nice for a girl or a boy!

BetterEatCheese · 03/03/2018 19:01

That will be a pain to keep clean. Can you compromise on a different colour? I wouldn't want a pink pram

MrsDilber · 03/03/2018 19:08

I think it's frivolous. What if you have a boy next time? My pram saw me through 3 babies.

stardust18 · 03/03/2018 19:28

I love the pink Pram. I myself am girly and have two girls my husband just goes along with it.
What's your partner's problem it's not like your pushing him in it. Silly man Grin

dkb15164 · 03/03/2018 19:56

Point A: your partner needs to give up his fragile masculinity of being afraid to push pink ASAP as pink EVERYTHING is part of the baby girl package; I know personally because my partner and I detest the colour pink and requested absolutely no pink things for our baby shower and yet ended up with a 50% pink wardrobe.
Point B: despite this, you really need to get black. Trust me you won't care about what's stylish or what's girly when your gorgeous pram turns to mucky brown after a few months. Rain cover ain't gonna protect it either - what mud and rain doesn't hit, the baby's gonna poop, pee, vomit all over it too. Be realistic, you're gonna regret not getting black in about 6 months time max. That or settle for a navy blue or purple. Accessories are a girls best friend, that way when your fur lined hand warmer begins to gross you out, you can easily replace it (or not as gloves are 800% time more effective).

I hate the way people on here go on about "stereotypes" over the colour of a pram. It's a free country which means we can make our own decisions, which means if it's a pink pram she wants she can buy one.
It will continue to be a stereotype as long as people associate the colour with a particular colour. If we just accept OP wants a pink pram because she likes the colour pink, the sexist connotation will disappear.
By saying she can't have a pink pram because the baby is a girl, is just as sexist as saying "pink is a girl's colour and blue is a boy's colour" as it still means you're being restricted by the social expectations of today.

Thats not why she wants a pink pram though, as she herself said. She wants a pink one because she is having a girl and a black pram isn't "girly" enough for her girl. That IS the sexist connotation right there.
Way to miss the entire point!

demirose87 · 03/03/2018 20:08

I saw that, but I'm also talking in general. It's still restricting choice based on gender. But people won't want to see it like that.

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 03/03/2018 20:12

Loads @CapricornWithAUnicornHorn absolutely loads.

SnowBusinessLikeSlowBusiness · 03/03/2018 20:12

No, SHE is restricting choice due to gender "I can't have a black pram for my girly", honestly you're not even trying.

Summerbaby2018 · 03/03/2018 20:14

I said the black one isn't girly enough as I'm girly myself so by that I clearly mean I want it to be girly for me 😂 People 🤦🏻‍♀️ like my daughter is honestly going to are what the pram looks like

Just googled pram bows. My god they’re hideous things.

Summerbaby2018 · 03/03/2018 20:17

@snowbusinesslikesnowbusiness

I wasent aiming to be bloody sexist for goodness sake I just wanted people opinion on my partners feelings that's all😂 The pink is for me as I'm super girly 🤦🏻‍♀️

SnowBusinessLikeSlowBusiness · 03/03/2018 20:17

What you said is right there I don't want a black pram for a girl as I'm girly myself

As in you could have one fine for a boy. Would you have a pink pram if it was a boy?

Chienrouge · 03/03/2018 20:18

If the pink is for you, as you’re ‘girly’, and the baby can’t see what colour the pram is anyway, would you have chosen that same pram for a boy?

Summerbaby2018 · 03/03/2018 20:20

Yes o honestly would off 🤦🏻‍♀️ I know that probably would not of gone down well but I generally don't think it matters the colour is what I like I don't buy the colour based on what my child would like 😂 As long as it's safe and comfortable I doubt my child would care and when he's old enough and wanted to know why mummy has a pink one I would say son I love the colour

headintheproverbial · 03/03/2018 20:21

Sorry but this colour pram screams pure chav for me!!

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 03/03/2018 20:22

It's super girly because you're super girly. Presumably your DP isn't super girly so he doesn't want to push it. I think you're both unreasonable but you can't have it both ways.

Summerbaby2018 · 03/03/2018 20:23

Look if you all read through you can see I've decided to get a black icandy and accessorise it 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 why is everyone still stressing them selves out over this ...I apologise if I have hurt anyone's feelings against their approach with 'gender' it wasent my aim I generally just wanted help with my fellas feelings towards being ashamed to push a pink pram THAT IS ALL I didn't ask for a lesson in gender and stereotypes

Babies are learning to move their bodies every waking moment of every day from rolling over, to lifting their heads, to crawling and eventually getting on their feet. It is a shame that people still think it's "nice" to put little baby girls in dresses and other ridiculous clothing/ accessories where learning movement clearly isn't the priority.

Summerbaby2018 · 03/03/2018 20:26

@Aspergallus
That's not what this post is about .... people can dress their kids how they like 🤦🏻‍♀️ Doesn't mean they don't care about their movements

BrendasUmbrella · 03/03/2018 20:29

Presumably your DP isn't super girly so he doesn't want to push it.

Presumably he wants a black pram for the same reason he wants his dd to wear tracksuits, so he can pretend he got the son he wanted?

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 03/03/2018 20:30

Pink with 🤦‍♀️ emojis all over it possibly.

MN is not a place where everyone just agrees with you, stays on exactly the topic you want and reads every word you write. It is what it is though. You either enjoy that or not!

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 03/03/2018 20:31

Thing is @BrendasUmbrella I think he's just as bad as her. But he's not here.

Summerbaby2018 · 03/03/2018 20:32

But why go out of your way to be nasty to someone or accuse them of being something? I just wanted some advice and help not to be judged
