Not heart beat at 7 weeks and 2 days

Hi, I had a scan at 7 weeks and 2 days on Saturday. The ultra sound scan dated me at 6 weeks and 4 days and said there was no heart beat. I am really worried now that the babies stopped growing at 6 weeks 4days. I am certain of the date of my LMP but not sure when I ovulated/ conceived so I suppose this could account for the a few days. Has anyone got any experience of this? Do I need to prepare myself for the worst?
I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks

What did they say to you? Have they advised coming back in two weeks. Also when did you test positive? Can you use that as a guide for when you likely ovulated?

bigfatbuddha · 26/02/2018 21:28

It's possible. Over here (different country) they say that there should be a heartbeat at 8 weeks as the last possibility. So I would request a new scan within a week so that you know if its ok or not. I've had two missed miscarriages in the past. I hated the waiting for news, not knowing but really hoping that the baby is ok. At the same time I was scared to think too much about the pregnancy because what if I was going to lose it? But only time can tell. I wish you strength in the coming days. Thanks

bigfatbuddha · 26/02/2018 21:30

Even if you know the date of your ovulation, you don't know when the implantation happened, so that could be a difference of up to four days I believe.

Sophlou · 26/02/2018 21:33

On my scan date it had been 3 weeks and 5 days since I tested positive on the 31st of Jan. The date of my LMP is 4th of Jan.
They've asked me to return in a week
I'm really not sure what to think.

I suspect they think your dates are wrong or that the pregnancy isn’t viable. If there isn’t a heart beat in a week then sadly the latter is likely to be true. If there’s a heart beat and expected growth then obviously it sounds much more hopeful.

Sophlou · 27/02/2018 06:13

I'm still having nausea, sore boobs and pregnancy tests are still positive but from what I understand my body would still think I'm pregnant even if the pregnancy has failed, is that right?
I suppose time will tell but the waiting is horrendous.

I had something similar OP - she's now 14. No HB initially and I had to go back to EPAU twice a week for blood test and scan until HB was found at 8 was. My dates were right but my cycle long. Look after yourself.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 27/02/2018 06:20

Sorry you're going through this. I had this and sadly there was no heartbeat when they rescanned. Have they asked to scan you in 10 days?

Sophlou · 27/02/2018 06:44

Thanks for your reply's. They've asked me to return this week all I can do is wait and hope

Did you have a transvaginal scan?

Sophlou · 27/02/2018 07:54

My scan was transvaginal they tried an abdominal one but said it would only work after 10 weeks.

Because your dates are quite close, it's obviously a possibility that you've ovulated late and the next scan will show that the pregnancy is progressing.

However it's also possible that the pregnancy has not developed and you will see the same as you have seen at the last scan. This is what happened to me so it would be a good idea to prepare for the idea that it may not be good news. Have a look into what would happen next and think about the route you might want to go down in case it isn't the news you want.

Unfortunately you're unlikely to know anything more until the next scan so you just need to take care of yourself, be kind to yourself and get through until the next scan. Thanks

We went through this OP and the weeks wait is horrendous. We took the approach of preparing ourself for the worst and hoping for the best. I fortunately it was a missed miscarriage with me, I should have been nearly 10 weeks by the time it was confirmed and I had treatment.

*unfortunately

Sophlou · 27/02/2018 08:17

Thanks for the advice I am preparing myself for the worst I just have a feeling it's not going to be good news.

That must be so tough. I have my fingers crossed for you.
Which day do you go back?

Sophlou · 27/02/2018 08:52

They asked me to go back tomorrow but I feel that it's too soon. I wouldn't want to make any decisions until I'm 8 weeks as I've read that people haven't seen heart beats until 8 weeks am I right in saying this?

teaandbiscuitsforme · 27/02/2018 08:58

Is this NHS or private? My understanding was you were advised to wait 7-10 days. If the pregnancy was viable, you were 6w 4d on Sat so 7w today? You still might not see a heartbeat. I would definitely wait until at least next Sat, if not Monday. It's horrible waiting but it's silly to rush back and go through all the emotions to be told they still don't know.

Sophlou · 27/02/2018 09:05

My initial scan was private and they referred me to the NHS and I've just found out they've booked me for tomorrow. Even though I'm desperate to know I feel it's to soon

It's really difficult. I would want to know too! I suppose they'd be able to measure to see if it was now measuring 7 weeks but you're talking tiny fractions of growth! And the fact it would be a different sonographer and a different machine.

It's obviously completely up to you. A really tough one!

Sophlou · 27/02/2018 09:08

I thought they'd leave me for a week unless they just want to do bloods tomorrow

OP posts:
MrsDilber · 27/02/2018 09:10

It's your decision, but if they've asked you to go back tomorrow, it might be a good idea to follow their advice?

Hope it turns out ok, OP.

heatherxo · 27/02/2018 09:16

I had a scan at around 5 weeks with no heart beat. There was nothing (except growth) until I was almost 8 weeks. Stay positive ❤

sinceyouask · 27/02/2018 09:17

Wishing you all the best op Flowers
