I am currently 40 weeks + 6 and I feel like I have been pregnant forever! I am trying to keep myself motivated and find things to do, but there is a limit! I've bounced on my birthing ball until I can't take it anymore, knitted more booties etc than I ever thought possible, baked about 100 cakes and topped up the freezer and I'm now getting fed up. I am struggling to do certain jobs around the house as I get breathless easily, so I'm finding going out for walk hard too. I keep meaning to invite friends over for coffee, but then get worried if something does kick off! Does anyone have any ideas/tips to keep motivated in what I hope is the last week?! Thank you!

So I have my induction date - tomorrow at 10.30am! Its an outpatient induction so I have to go in and have the gel/pessary and then go home again and wait.

Bit of a bugger because the hospital is a good 40 mins away from us and my DH can't drive so its going to cost us a fortune in taxis, not to mention the stress of getting back to the hospital if it does all kick off quickly.

I'm secretly hoping I might still go naturally today Wink

LittleRen · 22/01/2018 09:38

Good luck owl - fingers crossed it happens today for you but if not just think you will have baby in your arms within a few days.

Mortigua · 22/01/2018 15:11

Waiting to hear back about whether they have a space for induction for me tomorrow too !

Spudlet · 22/01/2018 15:23

Fingers crossed for you both!

owltrousers · 22/01/2018 15:54

Ah thats brilliant @Mortigua! I really hope they do, we can compare notes :)

HannahM32 · 22/01/2018 17:02

Mortigua - have you heard back yet!?

thingymaboob · 22/01/2018 19:32

@owltrousers any chance of booking a nearby hotel? My hospital always keeps you in throughout induction

Mortigua · 22/01/2018 22:31

Going in tomorrow but could be sent away if it's too busy- so nervous in a way but also relieved. I didn't want to be induced but I seriously think I would still have been even if i had waited till Saturday.
How are you feeling about it owltrousers?

Mortigua · 22/01/2018 22:35

Also hoping it happens for me overnight now I can stop over thinking it and relax a bit. I'll have it as an inpatient and there are 5 other women booked for tomorrow morning so not sure if I will be on a shared ward for the early bit, guessing so. I had a private one last time. I'm hoping I might avoid the drip bit but trying to take it as it comes.
I will be so upset if it got postponed so I really hope not!

owltrousers · 22/01/2018 23:01

That's good news! I'm glad your persistence paid off.

I'm feeling ok, a bit apprehensive because it's not how I hoped to give birth but to be honest I am just so fed up and uncomfortable now, I get new stretch marks every day. it's time for baby to be born and if this makes that happen, so be it!

Report back tomorrow and let us all know how you get on!

owltrousers · 22/01/2018 23:03

@thingymaboob unfortunately it's not the kind of area with any hotels - we did check but for the money it's not worth it as there's nothing very close and DH would still have to taxi.

Spudlet · 23/01/2018 09:33

Am rooting for you all!

So today was a total waste of time for me. Got to the hospital at 10.30 and wasn't seen until 12pm only to be told I could have my waters broken instead of the pessary however I had to go home and wait to be called in for it. Then it took over an hour for her to discharge me so all in all there for 4 hours and still no further on. Now waiting for the next 24 hours to find out when they can break my waters Hmm I don't get why they couldn't just do that today.

Mortigua · 23/01/2018 16:38

Oh owltrousers that's so frustrating !we had bad traffic as there was a major crash on our route in!I was crying as thought they would cancel but they've done the gel for me. Been told it will be tomorrow before anything more happens as they are really busy.
They said to me that they would probably break my waters when there was space on delivery suite as they expected me to not need the gel so I'm guessing your cervix was dilated if they said no to gel?

Mortigua · 23/01/2018 16:38

They offered us to go home too but thankfully said we didn't have to. Long wait ahead though I think

owltrousers · 23/01/2018 17:38

I'm so glad you got your induction @Mortigua ! Now get that gel working!

I feel so disheartened and put off by my experience in the hospital this morning. I know it's the NHS and it's stretched but to be waiting 2 hours to be seen and another hour to be discharged is crap, especially when you've been told it's a quick outpatient appointment, I was starving hungry by the time I finally got out and still no closer to getting labour going. I'm going to be exhausted before it's even started at this rate.

I don't get all this "sending you home to be more relaxed" stuff either because frankly the anxiety of having to travel 45 mins each way at the drop of a hat ain't exactly relaxing me.

Moan over Blush

Mortigua · 23/01/2018 17:53

Yes that isn't good is it. The lack of staff etc is so noticeable compared to my previous pregnancies.
Have loads of people been messaging you?I deliberately didn't tell many people what was happening today but still getting messaged loads and its almost as stressful as the any twinges texts!

Mortigua · 23/01/2018 21:02

How are you doing owl? Did they say they would call you at any point or was it tomorrow definitely ? I'm on a shared ward and contracting very painfully every 2 mins but I think it's the gel,not in active labour yet just bad luck it's so close as not getting much break in between. Eating crisps in the 2 mins between!

owltrousers · 23/01/2018 23:09

Hi @Mortigua sounds like you're making some good progress!

I haven't heard anything tonight so hopefully I'll get a phonecall tomorrow morning so I can go back and get my waters broken. I think they said no to gel / pessary because my body has already done so much good work getting ready for labour, I guess they think breaking my waters will get it going naturally. I just wish I knew when that would be Confused I'm not very good at unplanned situations!

owltrousers · 25/01/2018 00:01

Baby Milo arrived today at 6pm after my waters were broken at 2pm!

Rather traumatic 4 hour labour with just gas and air (they were trying to tell me I was 3cm when I was 8cm!) til I fully dilated and started pushing and baby was in distress so quick spinal block and whipped him out with forceps in 3 pushes.

He's amazing. 7.3lb and got his dad's cheeks Grin

Mortigua · 25/01/2018 02:31

Congratulations - baby boy born this morning - 10.13 so very glad i got him out!
