Sacha for a boy and would you spell it:

Sacha or Sasha?

Would you assume the child to be male or female?

Please be honest!

female I am afraid

I think for a boy it should be Sacha

only one I know of is Ali-G

not every encouraging - sorry

PestoMonster · 24/04/2007 16:12

I love the name Sacha, but tbh, if I heard it without knowing the person, I would think assume it was female.

carlsberg · 24/04/2007 16:12

Sacha sounds like a boys name to me, and Sasha def a girl. Well I went to school with a girl called Sasha anyway.

isaidno · 24/04/2007 16:13

sounds girly to me

TinyGang · 24/04/2007 16:14

I like it v much. It's one of those names I associate for boys or girls, so if dc were to mention a Sacha I'd ask boy or girl?

Slightly prefer it spelled Sacha but don't know why. Are there different ways of spelling it for girl or boy?

MerryMarigold · 24/04/2007 16:14

i think it's a russian name, is it? i would think of a girl, but it's quite 'arty' on a boy...also think the 'ch' is for a boy

pinkranger · 24/04/2007 16:14

Def girls name, someone we know has just called there DS this

justaphase · 24/04/2007 16:15

Sasha is short for Alexander in Russian so I would assume Russian family

zippitippitoes · 24/04/2007 16:16

I would think of a boy and I think it's a nice name

Diplidophus · 24/04/2007 16:16

It's the Russian diminuitive form of Alexander for a boy. I always thought it was ch for a boy and sh for a girl but Ali G is Sasha Baron-Cohen.

My name book has it both ways.

Sacha

I'd assume it to be female until I saw it written down

But yes, I'd think of Borat as well

It's nice though

Blu · 24/04/2007 16:21

Sacha - I like it, wouldn't assume girl or boy, particularly.

Marina · 24/04/2007 16:23

Would assume boy because of Russian derivation. I like Sacha!

PestoMonster · 24/04/2007 16:41

Go for it! I wanted to call DD2 Sasha, but Dh has a slight speech impediment and can't say the 'sh' sound properly, so couldn't have it, or Georgia, for the same reason.. Grrr! I think it's just as nice as Sacha for a boy. And slightly different IYSWIM.

Diplidophus · 24/04/2007 16:47

I like it too but DP concerend that it is too 'girly'. I think I would go witht the ch version.

belgo · 24/04/2007 16:48

I always think of it as a girl's name, unless the person happened to be Russian.

frazzledazzle · 24/04/2007 17:21

I like it for a girl, not sure for a boy.

Pepa · 24/04/2007 17:27

Its very popular in Balkan countries (Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia) and I beleive it is spelt Sasa (the s has an accent that makes it sound like sh) personally I really like it and always think of it as a Boys name but I guess it depends where you first hear it iykwim.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2007 17:31

I'd assume it was a girls' name however it was spelt.

SmileysPeoples · 24/04/2007 17:32

Think yu could get away with it if you have foreign connections. IYSWIM.

I love Francis for a boy but get told that's too girly.

Budababe · 24/04/2007 17:35

A boy in DS's class is called Sacha - short for Alexander. They are Ukrainian. I like it.

suzycreamcheese · 24/04/2007 17:35

i would think boy...like it!
