I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I thought I had food poisoning when I was first pregnant with DD because I had irregular periods and wasn't trying to get pregnant so the idea that I was pregnant never crossed my mind until a friend jokingly said I must be pregnant after I threw up at the pub!

Oh dear poor C Dead though impressed that you can pump by hand, I could never get more than a few drops out.

Hope you get better soon Mustang and before baby comes!

I seem to be coming down with a cold now, great timing... we celebrate Christmas tomorrow and I'd really like not to be all snotty and grotty!

Natsku · 23/12/2017 06:52

Also had another midnight vom session last night :(

Lifeofpies · 23/12/2017 07:11

Hi ladies, please may I ask your advice? I don’t think I have HG but I am struggling—nausea from waking to bed, sick a few times a day, unable to drink or eat much, not peeing often and (tmi) haven’t had a poo for four days. I have acupressure bands and am trying to sip water as much as I can. I have a history of recurrent miscarriage.

I cant see a doc now until new year - are there any OTC options?

Thanks so much.

Natsku · 23/12/2017 07:17

You can get Avomine from the pharmacy, but you need to say you need it for travel sickness otherwise they might not sell it to you.

Lifeofpies · 23/12/2017 07:27

Thank you very much, Natsku - I’ll look that up Flowers

justtheonethen · 23/12/2017 09:10

Life second what natsku said- You can take up to three times a day. Hers is the page on it.

https://www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/treatments/antihistamines/

Natsku rubbish if you're getting a cold Sad. Hope you feel better today

Mustang poor you! That sounds horrible. Much sympathy Flowers

Door a windy baby must be so difficult. Kudos for the hand expressing! Glad you spoke to DH.

Feeling rubbish. Don't think I'll be able to cope with dinner at my sisters on Christmas Day. Really hoping to manage a visit though even if it's for an hour or two.

justtheonethen · 23/12/2017 09:39

Also, mood here grumpy. I know DH hasn't bought me anything for Christmas. We agreed to only do stockings as money is tight. So I've spent weeks finding great gifts that are cheap but meaningful. No shit at all. He let slip that he hasn't bought anything yet. Despite spending every day in and out of shops and having a week off. I told him not to bother as I don't want a load of crap bought last minute. That's exactly why we agreed to do stockings only and not waste money.

Natsku · 23/12/2017 09:45

Urgh that sucks just how disappointing, he could have at least got you some small surprise for the stocking.

MeadowHay · 23/12/2017 15:13

Oh just that's not very nice Sad. We always only do stockings cos we are always pretty skint, I haven't managed to get him much at all for it cos of not being able to go out to shop but ordered a few things and I don't think he's got me much either because he's been so busy with work and being at home to look after me so hasn't really been out much either but I would be annoyed if that hadn't been the case and he'd just not bothered!

I had a better day yesterday too. I'm really hoping this is a turning point this week and things continue to improve but I don't want to jinx it. Spoke to GP hurriedly yday evening who signed me off for another 2 weeks. I need to sit down with DH and work out all mat leave stuff asap though cos I'm still on SSP and if I don't go back to work within the next month or so I think I will lose all entitlement to SMP so I need to look at the possibility of using all my annual leave first etc if work will allow me to in case I'm not well enough to go back that soon. Just an extra panic that I really don't need right now Sad.

I have started eating a hard boiled egg on a piece of dry toast each day and it takes like the best thing ever to me right now lol. And stays down each day too. Just saying in case anyone needs more food inspiration. It's nice and dry so it works for me with lots of salt and a tiny bit of pepper.

I haven't taken ondansetron all week and if anything I feel better this week so it clearly wasn't doing anything for me anymore after all. And I also now have had a bowel movement every day and actually since yesterday I've had the opposite and have diarrhea which is grim but oh well.

Life If you get really stuck assuming you're in England/Wales you can always call 111 for an emergency OOH GP appt wherever you are if you're not in your home town so you don't necessarily have to wait til after new year. Sorry to hear you've been feeling so unwell Sad. Concentrate on your fluid intake as that will be the reason you're aren't pooing properly either unfortunately. We've all been there, it's horrid.

Natsku · 23/12/2017 16:14

Glad you've found something to eat that stays down and tastes good Meadow I've been eating salted salmon on toast the last couple of days and it tastes sooo good. That's a bit shit that you might lose entitlement to SMP because you've been off sick, I hope you figure out a way to avoid that.

OH got me some scratch cards for my stocking - here's hoping I win! Can expect to get more scratch cards from FIL, it's tradition here to give people an envelope full of scratch cards at Christmas, DD always seems to win something at least with hers.

We're going to have a lovely white Christmas, have been teaching DD to ski today Grin Wish I could send some Christmas snow over to you lot! (Just a little bit though, not enough to cause havoc with the roads)

Sadiebrolly · 23/12/2017 20:47

Hello all. Comforting to find this wonderful community of women supporting one another with the horror of this . I was on here back in July but then had a miscarriage at 9 weeks ( sickness continued for 3 more agonising weeks until I had surgical management) . I'm 8+2 now and feeling dreadful- overwhelming nausea 24/7 BUT am not actually being sick which surprises me ( I was horribly sick with 1st pregnancy and with the one in the summer). Anyway, maybe the vomiting will appear soon, I'm retching a lot. Hope everyone has a good night.

Natsku · 23/12/2017 20:52

Hopefully you'll be lucky this time and not get so sick. Fingers crossed for you.

LucindaE · 23/12/2017 21:07

LifeofPies Welcome. So sorry about your previous mc's. Sorry you feel grim and can't get a doctor's appointment until January. It sounds as if you may be dehydrated. Can you get hold of kesostix from a c hemists tomorrow, to check? Most hospitals admit at 3+ ketones, which early on show dehydration - not so much later, if you have a 'low diet' through nausea and vomiting, when the ketones strart measuring 'starvation'.
' for a long time (which I hope you won't). Do you have headache, blurry vision or dry skin/mouth? All signs. What others say about avomine sounds a good idea. They have been using cyclizine based drugs in pregnancy safely for decades. Some fluids to try: the juice of tinned fruit, flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, soda water, Elderflower water, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya) fizzy orange, Lucozade, orange squash and Dr Pepper. For foods of a sort, cheap ice cream, tinned fruit, jelly, cuppa soup, slices of melon and mango and nibbles of crisps and chips. Some swear by custard. Lucky people even manage to keep some cold chicken down.
It might be an idea to phone Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020 about not being able to get an appointment until the new year for advice.
Sadiebrolly I remember you well. I hope some of the above advice may help, but you are a veteran anyway. I am so sorry about your earlier miscarriage and that the sickness continued after it. That is awful. As you are a veteran you will know all about kesostix and what fluids help you. Were you on meds before?
Mustang That sounds awful. Conjunctivitis is so painful.
Meadhowhay I do hope it is the turnaround.
justtheonethen Much sympathy over OH being useless about presents.
seize It's awful you are housebound still. It is annoying that there isn't much they can add to that. I think they only use steroids as a last resort with continuous admissions.
Natsku Sorry about midnight vomits. It is awful to have one's head down the loo when most people are asleep...
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.
Thinking of you all.

Thank you all so very much for your kindness. I bought avomine this morning and took it straight away, it definitely eased things a bit, enough to eat some ‘real’ food this evening and two glasses of water. but unfortunately I was sick afterwards. Taken another just now, so will see how tomorrow goes.
Lucinda really grateful for that list of food suggestions - and kesostix. I hadn’t heard of them but have a big boots nearby so will stop by tomorrow.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it. Shocked at how debilitating it is. Flowers

LucindaE · 23/12/2017 21:35

LifeofPies I hope the meds may help. An anti acid like Omprazole and Ranitindine may help. Do keep us informed and glad you are getting kesostix.

Hey ladies. I've not caught up yet but thought I would introduce my early arrival! As previously said in earlier posts I had obstetric cholestasis and HG returned about 33 weeks with vengeance!!! I had to be induced on Wednesday at 35 weeks due to my liver levels being off the chart. Little baba made his arrival after a pretty much perfect delivery on Thursday 21st December. Completely in love and completely emotional a lo as he is having to spend time in NICU due this premature lungs. My hormones are all over the place that's for sure but I am struggling big time to not cry every 3 seconds. Tonight is my first night out of hospital and away from him and I just feel so guilty leaving him. My heart is breaking but I have another son to look after too. I cannot wait to have him home with us.

spearo21 · 23/12/2017 21:49

Also forgot to add that apart from some sickness after delivery, I have not had one bit of nausea or sickness and I have be eating like a horse!!!!! The HG journey is a tough one but I promise you all it is so so worth it!

DeadDoorpost · 23/12/2017 22:00

Congrats spearo the emotiinas are difficult. I cried when my DH went home when I had to stay in. Don't feel guilty at all as he's in the best place for him at the moment and your other son needs you. You've got time to spend with him to come and you'll love it.
Glad to hear the delivery went well and that your appetite is back. Hope you're feeling ok despite everything?

justtheonethen · 23/12/2017 22:10

Oh spearo he is just perfect. I am so glad to hear he's here safely. I actually have tears in my eyes, selfishly this has come at just the right time to remind me why I'm doing this. Enjoy every moment Star

justtheonethen · 23/12/2017 22:12

Life trying ranitidine/omeprazole too is a good idea. You can buy in supermarkets or chemist. Take the avomine religiously three times a day. Fingers crossed it helps.

Oklahoma · 24/12/2017 04:04

Spearo woohoo it’s over, you’re free!! Those early hormonal days are really hard, I cried solidly for the first few weeks, it’s conpletely normal. Be kind to yourself...

Mustang27 · 24/12/2017 08:53

Oh Spearo he is absolutely beautiful, his skin is so perfect I'm in love. Congratulations I'm so sorry that they have had to keep him in and you have to head home that must be so bloody hard. So glad you are feeling a million times better and hope you can get lots of hugs with both your boys fairly soon.

Hi Sadie so sorry for your loss then the added trauma of being made to wait out mc it seems archaic to me and I hope you avoid the vomiting but I think we all mostly agree the constant nausea is the killer. (love that name I had a very sparkly aunt who was a Sadie).

Hugs for you just you think he'd have tried a bit harder due to how crap you feel but meh they just don't think like we do Sad. Don't let it ruin your day if possible.

So I'm hoping to have a cheery post soon but I'm happy for mini to stay put another 2 days because I'm still so bloody ill my partner seems to have avoided it completely but Iv got family staying over for Christmas and I think mini1 has coughed on them one too many times as they weren't feeling particularly well last night, feel awful poor family.

How's everyone else feeling? Natsku how's your pains been? I read you are coming down with the dreaded lurgy too are celebrating Christmas today as well?

LucindaE · 24/12/2017 09:45

Spearo21 What a lovely baby. Congratulations. So glad the nausea has gone. Flowers Smile [ So kind of you to update us, with all your emotional state. Star When will he be home with you? Of course, it must be heartbreaking to be separated, but you know he is having the best of care.
Just called away. Back soon.

OP posts:
Natsku · 24/12/2017 10:41

Oh he is lovely spearo must be very emotional but glad the sickness is gone.

OH dear mustang hope you get better soon. I'm not feeling too lurgy-like now so maybe it was a false alarm. We are indeed celebrating Christmas today. DD said last night before bed that Father Christmas isn't real but I think she changed her mind when she saw her stocking this morning Grin we've opened presents from family and now just relaxing until it's time to go to FIL's for the meal and for the personal visit from Joulupukki (Father Christmas), can't wait to see DD open the rest of her presents!

Hope you all have a nice and sick-free Christmas!

OrangeCloud18 · 24/12/2017 15:02

Congratulations spearo !
I am still feeling nauseous 24/7 here but Ondansetron is keeping the actual sickness away.
I had a 3D scan yesterday and all is well with our cheeky monkey!
30 weeks today, about 10 more to go. I can do this!!
