I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hey all. Congrats to Spearo and thank you for the reminder of why we are all going through this rubbish.

I ended up seeing the OOH doctor yesterday as My occasional vomiting turned in to throwing up everything. I narrowly avoided admission and have been put on stemetil. It’s helped a lot so far. The GP thought it was a bit early for HG at six weeks but I’m sure I’ve had it this early before.

justtheonethen · 24/12/2017 16:25

Happy Christmas natsku Smile

Noroom glad you got meds. Fingers crossed they continue to help.

Orange I'm back to 24/7 nausea now thankfully. Fingers crossed the vomming stays away for us both. It's definitely feeling like there is light at the end of the tunnel now.

Mustang yeah he's always been shit at presents so it's no surprise! To be fair he's been bloody great this pregnancy so a lack of presents isn't that big a deal. I'm still alive thanks to him Grin
Hope you feel better soon lovely.

Sadie sorry I missed saying hello. Sorry for your loss, I hope you can avoid the constant vomming even though I think the nausea is worse!

Shehz, my partner in crime/twin in hell! How are you?

to everyone else, hope you're surviving.

OrangeCloud18 · 24/12/2017 16:29

NoRoom My 24/7 nausea started at week 5 and I started throwing up at week 6. First hospital admission at week 8.

justtheonethen Glad to hear you are 'only' on nausea now. Hope it stays that way or you get complete relief!

justtheonethen · 24/12/2017 16:42

Orange wouldn't it be nice if it just did one around now for us both!

Shehz21 · 24/12/2017 20:59

Justtheonethen Heeyyyy! Was crazy busy with baby shower yesterday and it was a surprisingly good day in terms of nausea/vomiting and quite a cute little baby shower Xmas Smile
Had a good day today as well! Parents are here for Christmas and enjoying being pampered atm Grin
Glad to hear you are feeling better and no more vom sesh for you twinnie!

Massive congrats to Spearo ! Such a little angel! Hope he can be home with you soon and wishing you a speedy recovery!

Big warm hugs to everyone suffering.
Waves to everyone.

justtheonethen · 24/12/2017 21:02

Oh tell all about the shower. Did you get lovely gifts and have a great day with your friends/family? How lovely. So glad you had a relatively good day Xmas Smile

spearo21 · 25/12/2017 04:03

Thank you all for your kind wishes :) I'm honestly feeling like a new person I can't believe it. The amounts if people who have commented how 'healthy' I look is unreal lol I just have been looking like i was on death's door lol

Lucinda it will be a few weeks yet unfortunately. We have been told to aim for his due date. Seems like so far away all but hopefully it goes quickly. I'm currently expressing every 2-3 hours which is tiring but my boy needs my milk. So although I don't have a new born at home with me, I'm still up every 3 hours lol my pot boobs are sore and a bit lumpy today though... hoping it's just the milk coming in. Plenty of massaging going on lol

justtheonethen · 25/12/2017 07:12

Happy Christmas lovely ladies! Hope you all have a good day and manage to join in with the festivities in some way. Xmas Smile

OrangeCloud18 · 25/12/2017 08:52

Merry Christmas everyone!
Hope you all have a lovely day with HG away!
My OH's childhood friends threw us a surprise baby shower and it was really lovely! :)

LucindaE · 25/12/2017 18:33

Spearo It must be tough. Cyber hugs on offer to you and everyone in need of them this Christmas. The next one will be better - a lot.

LucindaE · 26/12/2017 09:50

Well, I hope everyone survived Christmas, anyway! Flowers

Natsku · 26/12/2017 10:30

Survived and didn't even get any acid midnight voms despite all the extra Christmas chocolate. Though I am slightly worried that eating grandma's home cured salmon might have been a bad idea, didn't think until after I ate it that the listeria risk is probably much bigger for that! No signs of illness yet though.

Ah that's nice of them Orange

Oh sounds tough Spearo you must be longing to have him home but of course he's in the right place right now.

Mustang27 · 26/12/2017 11:35

I had beetroot and gin soaked smoked salmon it was practically a whole fillet worth lol and was home made too. With loads of fennel (which I love) so we are both on the OMG should I have ate that worry lol. I knew I shouldn't but I can't partake in booze thanks to this babies lateness so I was like I'm eating what I want, I also had all the cheese lol.

Merry Christmas to everyone!!

Just a quick question still riddled with this flu but my nausea and sickness has reduced dramatically in the last 3 day still no baby, they seem to be moving but I'm quite worried as this seems weird as I really was ill in labour last time I'm nervous the reduction in hg is some kind of signal my placenta is packing in any experience of this?

Elephantgrey · 26/12/2017 11:56

Spearo congratulations he is gorgeous. It must be so hard for you being separated from him but you are doing all you can by expressing your milk.

Welcome to Sadie and Noroom those first few weeks are really tough. Sadie I am sorry to hear about your loss. I hope everything goes well for you this time.

Noroom I struggle with drinking water. You might want to try some of the other liquids Lucinda suggested. On a really bad day I have ice lollies which is odd at this time of year. I can also manage pineapple juice when I can't take anything else.

I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas.

thingymaboob · 26/12/2017 12:22

Hi @Mustang27 - I doubt your reduction in HG symptoms is a sign that your placenta is packing in. I'm 38 weeks now and apart from the crippling acid reflux I haven't felt sick or been sick. It's bizarre. Maybe it's just our time to have a break from the relenting sickness! You can always go and get checked, especially if you're worried about movement.

Natsku · 26/12/2017 12:40

Mmmm gin soaked smoked salmon. I've got some Lidl tar-cured salted salmon which I'm eating with no worries as it's probably not that big of a risk but grandma is getting old and her salmon didn't taste that salty so I'm not sure she used enough salt to cure it. I've been having fancy Christmas pate though as I only recently found out that we can eat liver pate during pregnancy (just limited to less than 100g a week) I'm hoping it'll help with my iron levels as I haven't taken iron for a few days to avoid the constipation pain over Christmas.

Probably your body is just giving you a break from the sickness Mustang but give the midwife a call tomorrow if you're worried.

Ice lollies are never odd at any time of the year Elephant according to DD at least Grin wish I had some right now actually!

Got midwife tomorrow, taking OH with me to make clear my concerns about the static fundal growth, really think I should have been referred for a growth scan by now. Also have to do the 'paternity confirmation' so that OH can be declared dad (as we're not married) - apparently there's a one month waiting period after the baby is born before it's officially confirmed, I assume that's so if the baby comes out looking very much like the milkman the 'dad' can change their mind Grin

NoRoomForALittleOne · 26/12/2017 12:42

Meh. Medication worked for two days now throwing everything up again. MiL is turning up in a couple of hours. She will not approve of the pregnancy (having more than two children is ‘common’ according to her) and is totally not understanding of HG despite being a retired midwife (“just eat and you will feel better” Hmm).

LucindaE · 26/12/2017 17:37

Glad everyone survived!
Elephantgrey Pinapple juice. Is that from a carton or the sort with the tinned fruit? That sounds a good one.
Natsku Glad you had no midnight vomits. Grin about that law. For the first few days my DD looked the image of OH, who in youth looked exactly like one of the extras from Kirk Douglas' 'The Vikings'. I was dismayed, but the strong resemblance lasted less than a week...
Mustang Great advice from others. As they say, mention it if you're worried, but it might be that Hyperemesis is at last taking its leave...
NoRoom Ha, Ha, I wish it was more common, and the birth rate might not be falling. Honestly, do people still use that expression? You should say, 'But So and So, the best people (as if there is such a thing) don't say 'common' they say 'vulgar'.' Wink. Six weeks is typical on this thread.
Thingymaboob On acid reflux - sorry if they have, and it doesn't work, but have they given you anythng for that? It can make such a difference.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked. Watch me cross post.

LucindaE · 26/12/2017 17:38

NoRoom Ah, and apart from MIL's absurdities, do remind me - what meds do they have you on currently? Can they add anything?

DeadDoorpost · 26/12/2017 17:48

mustang I had a reduction in my symptoms just before labour, for like a week so hopefully you're close. But mention it if you're worried

Mustang27 · 26/12/2017 18:13

Noroom I'm so glad you mentioned she is retired, why perpetuate crap like that, yeah that's all hg sufferers problems are a lack of food Hmm. I think any one that does this more than once is brave and/or a bit of a masochist lol. I think I'm the latter but how many children you have is a very personal choice what a weird opinion. She must be losing her mind at Kate and Will lol.

Thank you Dead I did think maybe it's just a reduction in hormones due to labour hormones increasing.

I'm sure you will be fine Nat my 90 year old Nan still bakes and stuff and occasionally she forgets vital components lol. I hope so.

Thingy so glad you are feeling a bit better except the acid were you not looking at early induction or am I getting you confused? Sorry I'm really forgetful at the mo.

Hey Elephant hope you are coping ok, I second pineapple juice is very palatable.

Mustang27 · 26/12/2017 18:15

Nat I totally missed the milkman chat how amusing.

Lucinda my wee brother follows the Norse religion in a massive way. You really need to share this Viking pic of your hubby he would love that. Considering he is actual Viking decent too.

LucindaE · 26/12/2017 18:46

DeadDoorPost I am glad you at least got some relief at the end.
Mustang I'll try and dig out one of the old photos I've got and put it up when I next get up to the attic where I have them filed away! I vaguely remember that lots of people of Irish descent have Viking blood in them, because of strong Viking colonisation in Ireland. Many years since I've read up on it, though.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 26/12/2017 22:34

Lucinda, I’m on stemetil. I’m allergic to cycle ins and metoclopramide plus have had tachycardia causes by some antihistamines so options are more limited than I would like. I don’t know if ondansetron is on the local formulary or if it is consultant prescription only. I know this is very much a postcode lottery. I also wonder if I would feel less sick if my fasting glucose level was normal. I had GDM in my last pregnancy so told to monitor from the start in subsequent pregnancies and my fasting levels are already higher than they should be But because I’m not booked with a midwife yet, I can’t be referred to the Diabetes team.

thingymaboob · 26/12/2017 22:42

Hi @Mustang27 I was going to be induced if I had gestational diabetes, but I don't so got to put up with feeling like shite for another two weeks. They don't care that I'm losing weight in third trimester. I have still got lots of glucose in my urine but I've had the gtt twice and it's fine. I'm 38 weeks now and the biggest thing that's bothering me is the fatigue. Oh, and even though I'm not being sick this week, I have absolutely no appetite at all. None. I wonder if I'll feel absolutely starving after labour. How did everyone else find with their appetite after birth?
