I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi everyone. It's my birthday today - my first ever one that I'm not having birthday cake 😲 Even though I struggled in my least pregnancy I still managed birthday cake lol. So feeling a bit sorry for myself as there's no way I can stomach it today.

Bitzy I really hope a different doctor listens to you. Mine gave me ondanestron as my second med when the first stopped working. He just bypassed the others. So how can one gp be supportive and understanding and another not? It's really unfair. I hope you get the help you need soon x

bitzy12 · 24/01/2018 18:03

@Herecomesanotherone2018 thank you, I know I defo need to see another doctor. To top it all off, ds has said his ear has been hurting. Had a quick look at it (with the torch on my phone lol) and it's full of gungy stuff :-( so a trip to the doctors for him tomorrow now aswell. Praying we get some sleep tonight.

Happy birthday, hope you've managed to have a good day regardless of the shi**y HG :-) xxx

Natsku · 24/01/2018 18:42

Happy birthday Herecomes!

Happy Birthday Herecomes!

justtheonethen · 24/01/2018 19:05

Herecomes happy birthday! Sorry you can't stomach cake Sad

Bitzy definitely see a new doctor/get them to call mat ward. That is ridiculous!

seizethecuttlefish · 24/01/2018 19:27

Happy birthday herecomes CakeSorry that that's as near as you'll get to cake.
Bitzy definitely speak to someone else and I think the suggestion of getting the dr to call the maternity ward is a good one. Your mum sounds a bit like mine. Hope you're ok and managing through?
Didn't I have a bucket that DH and DS decorated that is called puke bucket mkII. It lived by my side. I'm not as sick these days but still prefer using it to anything else.
Mw tomorrow for me. Oh the joys.
Had the first contact from my work in months. An email to tell me they are looking for people to take redundancy and can I let them know my thoughts ASAP. Nice! Angry

OrangeCloud18 · 24/01/2018 21:13

Happy birthday herecomes !

Bitzy The 2nd time I was admitted for fluids at hospital, I was given Ondansetron and since then my GP has been prescribing it although I have had to fight for them to keep giving it to me at times. I hope you manage to get it!

I've got about 8 working days left and then it's Mat Leave!

Namechangedtoscream · 24/01/2018 22:42

Hi ladies hope everything is going well for you. I'm now 7+3 I had a scan on Monday and saw a heartbeat so it seems more real now!

However I have just weighed myself and I've lost 9lbs due to not eating through nausea and vomiting. I'm on cyclizine. Should I go back to my gp?

Natsku · 25/01/2018 04:24

Go back to your GP, might need to try a different med.

justtheonethen · 25/01/2018 06:42

Name cyclizine clearly not working for you! Get back to gp. Sympathy, it's awful!

Orange hurrah not long now!!

Dead thanks for popping back. How is he 8 weeks!? Go to see your GP lovely, you don't have to feel that way. You've already been through so much Flowers

Bitzy are you going to try different gp today? Hope DS ear ok!

Natsku · 25/01/2018 07:57

Missed the bit about your DS's ear Bitzy ear infections are the pits - I had one in the last year and it was so painful, made me realise just how much children suffer with them :( Hope he's better soon.

Shehz21 · 25/01/2018 08:01

Lucinda Welcome back Mama Hen! It's always so lovely to have you back on the thread after your little trips Smile

Mustang Definitely stick around. We love having posts from our HG survivors like yourself, Dead, Oklahama.. It reminds us of what's to come ahead and for some reason I am not dreading sleepless nights/cranky babies as much since I am so FED UP of being pregnant. I am living in the hope that life with a newborn will be better than this crap HG. I may be wrong but jeez I am so done with constant nausea/vomit/bile and acid runs/insomnia/pains and aches/a baby kicking my insides.. I dnt mean to sound ungrateful for my pregnancy but this was officially the worst 32 weeks of my life Blush

Orange Yay not long to go down! Just another week and you can finally relax! Is this your first? Sorry if I missed out on this info in your previous posts.

Bitzy I feel so sorry for you, I really do. You have all my sympathy as I have had a horrible gp who refused me ondansetron as well and kept giving me bucastem and metoclopramide. Thankfully I got phenergan over the counter and it worked really well in conjunction with metoclopramide for me. I do think you need to go to/call mat ward though, they are more likely to give you ondansetron than the gp if he is insisting on being an unsympathetic fck.
Hope you all got some decent sleep and DS ear problems get sorted out today.

Here comes Belated Happy Birthday Flowers

just how are you doing love? 34 weeks now?! Can i allow myself to do a happy dance on your behalf Grin

Namechanged oh so lovely to see that heartbeat for the 1st timeSmile
Definitely go back to the GP and ask him for other meds. Move up the ladder so maybe directly on ondansetron?

It throughly frustrates me as to why some GPs can be so unsympathetic. Why would would you leave a patient, in this case a pregnant one, to suffer when there is such a vast variety of drugs approved to give women suffering from HG in pregnancy according to PSS/NICE guidelines.Just give them whatever they need that is available ffs!

bitzy12 · 25/01/2018 09:52

Thank you everyone. Currently sat in our gp emergency department with ds. Explained we both need to see a doctor together. Ds isn't too bad today thankfully and has been as good as fold so far. I took cyclizine last night and I don't know if it's made a difference or not. Not been sick yet but I am absolutely exhausted. Can't drink water either so I know ok dehydrated. I'm actually seeing the midwife tomorrow so just wondering if I don't get admitted then she might be able to sort the medication for me. Praying we get a nice dr this morning and not an absolute knob head. Surgery is very busy so thinking we might be here a while. Would love a nap lol. Hope everyone manages to get through the day x

Natsku · 25/01/2018 10:13

Fingers crossed for you that you get a decent doctor. Probably you need fluids too, get your ketones checked.

I have to go see my lawyer today, DD's birthday is next week which means her dad will probably try and get in contact so need to discuss what to do if he asks to see her (we've been pushing for supervised visitation). Really don't need extra stress right now!

Have a very slight underlying nausea since yesterday, most likely caused by stress (I always get stress sick even when not pregnant) but I better not start my meds again as who knows when baby will decide to come out. It's not too bad anyway, just a bit nauseous but no actual vomiting so far.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 25/01/2018 11:45

Hope you and DS are okay bitzy! I’m guessing you might have been admitted?

I had a very sneaky listen to baby this morning Blush against all professional advice I would ever give to women!! Made me feel a lot more positive about everything though! I have been so so scared about having a missed miscarriage and all of this being for nothing. Know I’m only 8+5 so it’s still early but I’m much less paranoid now.

bitzy12 · 25/01/2018 12:47

Hello, nope not admitted. Another useless doctor. As soon as she called my name, I knew from previous experience with her that it was going to be a waste of time. She said because I hadn't been sick today so far and the fact I've managed to eat 2 digestive biscuits is a good sign. She wouldn't check my wee either. She said the midwife can do that. I'm at the midwife in the morning so I'll find out then what I'm like for keystones. Did manage to get antibiotics for ds though.

She's one of those doctors that I feel just totally looked down on me cos I'm a scruffy mess......she's there with her perfect hair and make up and I literally look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards lol. X

bitzy12 · 25/01/2018 12:49

To be honest I've surprised myself as I'm so tired me and ds went to McDonald's drive thru and I had some chips and a small coke and it's all managed to stay down. The coke was absolutely amazing too. So maybe the cyclizine is working slowly fingers crossed. I managed to drink half of the cup which is probably more than I've drank in the last 4 days x

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 25/01/2018 12:55

Oh bitzy what a rubbish experience for you! I’m shocked that she wpuldn’t even test your wee!!

Natsku · 25/01/2018 13:06

Sweet fizzy drinks were the only liquids I could keep down at the worst weeks - get some more coke for home.

Anatidae · 25/01/2018 13:22

bitzy I had multiple docs insist last time that as I’d managed to physically sip water I wasn’t dehydrated. Patient has had a drink today, tick that box, fuck off. Despite violent, violent vomiting ‘because some always stays down.’ Yes it probably does, but when you’ve managed a few mls and vomited until bile comes up, the chances of that being enough are pretty slim...not to mention the havoc it plays with your system just being that sick.

Doctors vary hugely in awareness. And alas women arent always better. I had one insist that she had morning sickness and it was fine. I mean how self absorbed can you be? I found the nurses and midwives a lot more sympathetic - one told me she’d had it and she said every time someone comes in with it is makes her shudder just remembering.

Don’t stiff upper lip it. Tell them no, youve not kept anything down at all. Because a teaspoon retained after a vomiting session is not enough and your electrolytes could be all over the place.

Coke was a lifesaver for me last time. I hate the stuff normally but it’s just pure sugar in fluid form so it’s magic. 😁

There needs to be a big push for HCPs to actually USE the RCOG guidelines for treating nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. They are there, they are sensible, so why aren’t they being followed? No woman should be vomiting to the point of incontinence when there are safe and effective drugs, drips etc that can help. It makes me so angry - it basically shows you that women are just treated as child bearing vessels. Men wouldn’t put up with this shit. And they wouldn’t be expected to put up with this shit.

So go, and middle class polite but pushy head on, eyeball her, take your copy of the rcog guidelines and INSIST.

Mustang27 · 25/01/2018 13:34

Bitzy everything everyone else is saying especially Ana. We have uttered that if this was a male suffering hg thing on this thread so many times now. I do believe it's true though. It would be far more understood. I also agree women can be worse when it comes to being understanding with HG. Several trips to McDonald's drive thru to keep yourself hydrated I feel or at least perked up a little with all that sugar lol.

Shehz you will be absolutely fine with a newborn I promise. Even the most colicky Velcro baby is a reprieve to hg plus at least you will be adequately fed and watered (time & baby allowing lol) so you will have a bit more energy to manage.

Aww didn't, how did you do that?

Name that's some weight loss sometimes that doesn't even shift the drs to help appropriately though. I hope you get some reprieve soon. How is your weight? Are you going to be skin and bones soon as you will need to watch for the strain on your body. Not saying if you have a bit to spare that it makes that loss any more acceptable.

Mustang27 · 25/01/2018 13:35

Oh and bigger mini has a bloody cold again I swear to god I give up. He has been out once in the last week to go to ice hockey how's that bloody fair

Namechangedtoscream · 25/01/2018 16:19

My starting weight was 12st7lbs at 5'9 so I can afford to lose a pound or 12 but it's the fact it's come off so fast that's worrying me. All I managed to eat yesterday was an apple. I'm going to book into my gp in the morning.

OrangeCloud18 · 25/01/2018 17:27

Shehz Yes it is my 1st! Not sure I can do this again though!

I've got my Ondansetron! Yay!

Natsku · 25/01/2018 17:29

That's great Orange!
