I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ah dear Orange! Same here Blush
Definitely getting a coil in there for a long long time.
Brilliant news about getting the ondansetron!

Natsku 1 day away from DD! Is excitement riling up?!

Mustang Thanks for boosting my spirits! This is what I thought, as long as I am well fed and nausea free, I think I will manage pretty well.
So sorry about big Mini being under the weather againSad I do hope this poor darling gets better soon!!

Waves to Just Lucinda Bitzy Herecomes Spiders and the others Smile

Namechangedtoscream · 26/01/2018 09:38

I've been put on metroclopramide and advised take it for as short a time as humanly possible. Any experience of this?

Mustang27 · 26/01/2018 10:36

@Namechangedtoscream it can give some muscle spasms but insure there has been a few not to get side effects and taken it for a considerable time in pregnancy on here. How's the weight?

Aww shehz thank you. He seems happy enough so that's a small win lol

justtheonethen · 26/01/2018 10:39

I've taken metoclopramide from 10 weeks and will do til the end. No side effects.

LucindaE · 26/01/2018 11:15

Goodness, everyone,I am so sorry for my absence. I am typing this from the library PC, as my own has suddenly crashed, and the Magic Mario the IT Man is away on holiday until Monday next, and the library is always shut here on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I have been fretting about you all. I'll just take half an hour to read the thread.

OP posts:
Shehz21 · 26/01/2018 11:40

I have been on metoclopramide since week 7 and I am 32 + 1 today.
Planning to take it along with Phenergan until the end.

Natsku · 26/01/2018 11:41

Excitement is definitely riling up shehz had lots of rather uncomfortable contractions last night and thought it might be starting but they went away when I got out of bed and took paracetamol.

LucindaE · 26/01/2018 11:48

Right, plodding along on this library screen (call me the IT Calamity Jane, as Google Chrome froze once) I am sorry to see a lot of suffering.
Bitzy I think, will be having her ketones checked as the dr at emergency couldn't be bothered, which is not good. I do hope the digestive biscuits helped with the ketones a bit, but as you have been able to keep down so little liquid, you must be dismally dehydrated. It is awful that you were made to feel inferior because you are to ill to manage personal grooming - but which of us who is very ill does? I assume that they couldn't admit you due to the bed shortage, but after all, they can give fluids in the waiting room in emergency, and often do. I hope you get some more effective meds soon. Sorry poor LO is ill, too.
Belated Happy Birthday to Here. Sorry you couldn't endure cake. Here's a cyber slice anyway Cake. Smile
Mustang Great advice, as ever. Thank goodness you are around.
Peachesandcream That's the right approach! Efficient, too, about reminding about deadlines.
Anitidae I so agree about full sugar coke (I found flat best). Ice lollies and the juice of tinned fruit, elderflower water and ice cubes and various other unhealthy fizzy drinks can be really good, too
DeadDoorPost So sorry to hear baby has been ill - that's so unlucky, as generally they are protected from colds by your antibodies for the first few months. Poor both of you, and burst eardrums - that is awful!
As the others say,if the stress is too much, to ask to see a counsellor.
OrangeCloud Congratulations on getting Ondansetron. I don't wish to be a pessimist, but constipation is inevitable, so do get in some laxatives, too. Some swear by the suppositories from Boots, but you have to get someone not pregnant to get them, though they use them in hospitals. I don't know if Lactulose is prescription only.
justtheone Good advice, too.
Natsku I was wondering if baby had arrived in my enforced absence. As you have a cold, best s/he hasn't. Much sympathy about your brother. Mine is autistic spectrum and got into trouble over tax once, and it was very worrying. Hopefully the authorities will see sense.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored. I hope Magic Mario can fix my pc soon. I should be on again tomorrow morning, as the library is open until 12. It's great the way everyone is so lovely and helpful on this thread.

Anatidae · 26/01/2018 12:17

I was given metoclopramide and it did zilch for me alas.

It’s reasonably safe - it acts on dopamine so it can cause some movement based side effects if taken long term. Note can, not will. No effects seen on the foetus.

Shehz21 · 26/01/2018 12:51

Anatidae Would you say the same about Phenergan(Promethazine) though?
The doc at the maternity unit told me to stop taking atleast by week 35. It could cause blood clotting in baby's brain or something like that?
I am dreading the day I have to stop it as everytime I tried to wean myself off it, it just brought on a relapse followed by really bad couple of days.

LucindaE · 26/01/2018 13:22

Shehz My goodness, to be told that is worrying. I would ring 024 76382020 and they'll ring back with good information about the safety of meds. I do think the doctor sounds a bit alarmist, but I'm not medically trained.

OP posts:
Natsku · 26/01/2018 14:22

Agree with Lucinda Shehz double check that with experts because that sounds a bit off.

More uncomfortable contractions while I was in the supermarket today, had to keep stopping to bend over the trolley and breathe but they've stopped again. Going to be all devil-may-care-like tonight and have a real beer (not that non-alcoholic watery crap I tried earlier in the pregnancy!) to celebrate the night before my due date.

Shehz21 · 26/01/2018 17:38

Thanks for the number Lucinda.
Will definitely call and find out asap.
I do have great luck in bumping into Drs/Gps who are absolute scaremongers esp when it comes to medication in pregnancy so I better get correct information from another reliable source if possible.

Nat Enjoy that beer!
Were you overdue with DD?
Hoping for you that the contractions lead to something soon!

Natsku · 26/01/2018 17:53

Was 10 days overdue with DD but if I get to 41 weeks this time then they're going to induce - with DD there was no mention of induction at all. Really hope to avoid it though!

Anatidae · 26/01/2018 18:23

You will probably need to wean off the promethazine before the end as there’s a slight risk of respiratory depression in newborns. It also has a slight risk of reducing platelet aggregation in the newborn (hence slight risk of brain bleed) however I don’t know if the usual vitamin K shot would negate this risk (ask that and do not be refusing a vitamin K shot!)

How to tackle this if they want to to wean off? You need to be absolutely explicit with your doc that going without for x time at the end is unacceptable and how do they plan to manage this? A suggestion could be say a different medication but you need to know NOW what will work for you, not be fannying around at the end. Be clear that you do not consider it acceptable to be left without a drug that works at the end. All the usual questions: what are the risks? What are the alternatives? What is your plan to manage this? Any ‘well we will see how it goes..’ needs to be met with a clear no, that is not acceptable.

Polite, firm. Take a notebook with your questions in. Good luck.

Shehz21 · 26/01/2018 20:59

Thanks Ana for all the advice and tips.
I am hoping that by 35 weeks which is in another 3 weeks I will be magically completely nausea and vomit freeHalo

Natsku Ohh well as long as Baby Nat comes out safe and healthy. Though I do share your sentiment to avoid an induction!
Looks like you are gonna have a Feb baby.

justtheonethen · 26/01/2018 21:23

Ana we need to take you to all appointments! Can I ask about my drugs? So metoclopramide fine until end? What about Ondansetron, Cyclizine and prednisolone? Thanks in advance!

Shehz I am 34 weeks today Smile. Happy dance away!

Scary day today, got sent to mat assessment unit with pre eclampsia signs. That's all fine thankfully and I just have high ish bp and a migraine causing weird eye things but bump not grown in three weeks so being sent for growth scan on Tuesday. Fingers crossed baby is ok in there Confused.

justtheonethen · 26/01/2018 21:23

Natsku enjoy that beer!

Natsku · 26/01/2018 21:30

Fingers crossed for you just hope everything looks fine and dandy on the growth scan

Mustang27 · 26/01/2018 23:52

Oh Just what a horrible wait. Just try to stay busy.

Ana you need to stay around forever on these threads your advice is second to none.

Oh Nat enjoy, I had a small glass of wine the night my labour started with mini 1 I think it relaxed me enough to let things happen. Hope your drink does the same.

Shehz21 · 27/01/2018 09:04

Just Oh twinnie I have my MW on Tuesday and wanted to discuss with her how my bump seems to have stopped growing since 29 weeks.
I really hope everything goes well and she is alright in there! I did mention this to my mum and she said I carry in my hips and not in my belly which could be a reason? I didn't really understand what she meant but since we were on an international call(Dubai has blocked skype calls as well nowAngry), I didn't ask her to elaborate.

Natsku Happy Due Date Day Grin

Mustang Completely agree about Ana! Would have been nice to actually be able to take her on appointments lol.

I have just noticed fresh stretch marks which look like bruises on my hips and around my boobs.
I have been so consistent with cocoa butter+bio oil and still.....Sad

justtheonethen · 27/01/2018 10:03

Shehz we really are twins! Hope mw is reassuring Tuesday. No Skype? How crazy!
Don't feel down about the stretch marks, they are a reminder of the amazing thing your body is doing. Also apparently it's all just down to genetics if you get them or not, no amount of oils or creams make a difference.

Natsku happy due date!

OrangeCloud18 · 27/01/2018 11:04

Shehz I've got looooads of stretch marks now and some are raw Confused
My mum said to keep putting on cream until they get white after birth which could be a year down the line!

I hope everyone is alright! I slept in till 9 this morning so took my Ondansetron 3hrs late which means I'm now feeling really sorry for myself x)

justtheonethen · 27/01/2018 11:09

Oh no orange Sad.** I woke up at 3 feeling sick so took my first dose of tablets then.

Shehz21 · 27/01/2018 11:15

Justtheonethen I swear even genetics is so unfair to me, my mum had done with either DB or me!Envy
Well yeah DH keeps telling me it's just a beautiful reminder of the experience so i guess I could look at it that way :')
Btw are you still taking Phenergan everyday or alternating with other meds?
I find it easier for me to go without metoclopramide than phenergan for whatever reason.

Orange Yeah I pretty much stocked up on Palmers Cocoa Butter and Bio Oil when they were on sale round Christmas time so I will defo have more than enough for another year after bubba is born. Wonder if I will have the time, patience and energy to be consistent with the luxury of smearing my body with all this goodness with a newborn though!Grin
Argh hope you are able to feel better soon enough Orange! I am so scared of those damned relapses that I am religiously taking ranitidine and phenergan as soon as I wake up now.
