I'm pregnant with DC3. DS1 was a surprise, DS2 we found out at 20 weeks.

All through this pregnancy I've been saying I won't find out the sex. I was chatting to DH lastnight and he's saying he'd quite like to know. I also had a friend over for a coffee and she asked me why I didn't want to know... I couldn't really think of a very good reason apart from it'll be a surprise at teh end.

I don't think I mind what it is...... but it would be nice if it was a girl, seeing as I've got two boys already, but a boy would be nice too.

OK, so why shouldn't I find out the sex.....

We didn't find out for our first baby (didn't think to ask in fact ). But we did with the other 7! I did hope each time that the scanning person wouldn't be able to see and so he couldn't tell us.....but all 7 babies were happy to show their bits!
It never spoilt it for us come delivery day though, it was still a suprise finding out if baby was blonde/dark etc..as dp and i are total opposites..he has won 6/8 times....and i won't be trying to even it up...lol
I like to be organised though..thats what made me ask everytime....i just needed to know!!!!

xx

I could never never tell if i was carrying boy or girl.......people always said 'you must have an idea coz of having so many already'..but i could never tell. It all felt the same-even the twins!

The heartbeat test worked everytime for me though but would never go out and buy pink or blue stuff on it though.

We didn't find out with either of our
pregnancies and I'm so pleased we didn't.

When DD was born I delivered her myself into the birthing pool and looked down at her face and I was looking at a female version of DS .
It was over 2 years ago and my eyes are still filling up thinking about it. I had an inkling I was carrying a girl but didn't want to voice the thought in case i was wrong.

Lol, Wulf! Lot of trouble just to test out your theory. I'd have had 2 more if it weren't for the laundry, the financial implications and my own advanced state of decrepitude (in that order).

mum2george · 24/04/2007 19:56

If you don't want to then don't, its you that has to carry it for nine months after all.

My DH really wanted to find out with DS but I reminded him of my friend (who incidently is a MW on an Antenatal clinic) who was told the wrong sex. I just said that if they can't get it right for one of their own staff then what chance do we have.

There seems to be a spate of people being the wrong sex at our hospital lately, so much so that some MW's are advising against finding out.

If you are told the wrong sex you may have bought clothes, toys etc and decorated the nursery, does he want to volunteer to redecorate and take all the stuff back for refunds?

And lastly, if you were to be told the wrong sex it could affect bonding with the baby.

Give him all these reasons, they worked on my DH!

Am really pleased for you. Yours was one of the first threads I came across on MN and I was thinking of posting to ask how you had got on (but thought it might be nosy).
Now you can really enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Congrats!
