I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Good luck with it Shehz

justtheonethen · 11/12/2017 14:18

Good bargain hunting natsku Smile

Shehz sorry you're feeling so rough. Me too.

Shehz21 · 11/12/2017 14:41

Impressed about that bargain Natsku
By the way I have completely forgotten whether you are having a girl or a boy? Just sheer curiosity hereBlush

I remember Justtheonethen got a pink bump!

Very much aware of the 30 week relapse but quite looking forward to waddle into the 3rd trimester alreadyEnvy

Natsku · 11/12/2017 14:48

A boy. The bundle includes a Little Ghost Godfrey blanket and pillow which I'm very excited about as that was DD's favourite cartoon for ages.

I'm just starting to realise that I haven't actually got that long left - by the time Christmas is over I'll be in my last month!

justtheonethen · 11/12/2017 14:59

That's so soon natsku Smile.** You will be in the pink castle before you know it.

Natsku · 11/12/2017 15:09

Can't bloody wait!

MeadowHay · 11/12/2017 16:21

Arghh Natsku I am happy for you but also jealous Blush. It feels like I will be 85 before I'm better. Or something like that...

I keep crying because of how ugly I feel. I haven't been able to shave my legs since the HG kicked in, that's 6/7 weeks ago now, the longest time I've ever left them, I genuinely didn't even realise my legs were this hairy! I have very dark, thick hair and lots of it cos of my genes and it's been a huge complex for me since adolescence, I usually get my face threaded every month or so which obviously I haven't done and I haven't even had the energy to try and vaguely sort my eyebrows out so I literally feel permanently disgusting, I know that's so sad and awful as hair is totally normal and it's not my fault I've got hair but I just can;'t help it. DH keeps telling me he doesn't care, I'm beautiful etc etc but it makes barely no difference I just feel so awful and not-myself Sad.

In other news, I have a craving for salt and pepper chips after all the talk of chippy chips on the other page!

Elephantgrey · 11/12/2017 16:25

I have been really struggling over the last few days. I have been worrying about the birth and what is going to happen. It's probably going to be bad for me whatever happens.

I have got my midwife appointment tomorrow what should I say. I have got so much that I am worried about that I don't think I could fit it all into the one appointment (it's only 15 minutes).
Do they even ask you about the birth at 16 weeks?

LostInTheTunnelOfGoats · 11/12/2017 16:58

What is it in particular that you are worried about Elephant?

Natsku some good bargain hunting there! You don't have very long to go at all!

Meadow I know how you feel. I'm the same with hair. I had a bath yesterday and plucked my eyebrows and it really did help. I find being in a bath relieves nausea - it always has for me, even when I've had a vomiting bug or something I automatically want to immerse myself in water!

I have a massive bottle of lactulose but DH got it for me and there's not really any instructions - do you just take a capful every day? Still very constipated here

justtheonethen · 11/12/2017 17:07

Swig in the morning, swig at night goats.

Meadow absolutely the same. Hairy, spotty, smelly most of the time. It's not fun and I don't feel like me at all.

Elephant no one has asked me about birth yet but do talk to your midwife if you're worried.

Shehz21 · 11/12/2017 17:08

Natsku Yay really happy for you! The more women from our lot waddle their way to the Pink Castle, the more courage I get to keep going(Not that I have any other choice but still..)

Tad bit of jealousy thrown in here as well Meadow it's really just normalWink
We all can't wait to get to the Pink Castle already!
So sorry you are feeling this way about your physical appearance.. There is only so much we can do when we feel so grim. I know I had horrible hygiene for most of my 1st trimester.. unbrushed teeth, unwashed hair and oh VERY hairy body here as well! I only managed to get a hold on myself after week 15-16..
Now I have put on so much weight despite the HG and feel really insecure. But like I said earlier, there is only so much I can control. I rather eat unhealthy beige things and white carbs which I can tolerate than healthy meal options which would definitely come up within minutes.. I console myself thinking once baby is out, I will be able to exercise(can't even move much due to severe SPD at the moment)and lose the extra kgs. In brief,I genuinely believe I will have my life back after baby is born. Let's hope that's trueSmile
Do not worry much about your appearance for now, you will definitely crossing fingers to the point of 'em snapping feel better after couple of weeks and be able to tc of yourself again!
I know hormones won't be helping right now..
My DH always reminds me I am doing a difficult job of creating and nurturing this little life inside of me and it's bound to have a toll on my energy and body but the end result is gonna be all worth it.

elephant I haven't had a 16 week appointment but I am sure your midwife will be willing to listen to your concerns. If she tries to brush it off as normal pregnancy hormones playing up so as to get done with the appointment quick,do emphasize on how much it is affecting your MH and you would really like to discuss some points that really matter to you so as to put your mind at ease. I hope she is helpful and considerate tomorrow.

LostInTheTunnelOfGoats · 11/12/2017 17:09

Thank you just, I'll get swigging! Hope to goodness this works

Shehz21 · 11/12/2017 17:20

I am writing essays on here hahGrin

justtheonethen can you relate to wanting january to be over then february to start having a mini celebration in your head? Oh so close..Xmas Grin

justtheonethen · 11/12/2017 17:32

Hell yes shehz just want Christmas and Jan over with Xmas Grin. Will seem doable then.

I feel awful. Back to throwing up loads and not keeping anything down. I'm on three types of antiemetic. This is ridiculous Sad

Natsku · 11/12/2017 17:58

My body hair doesn't grow much when I'm pregnant so I've just been epilating my legs once a month and that's enough.

Bad news again :( our van is too broken to fix so now we don't have a car capable of getting me to the hospital when the time comes (our car is alright for short trips but can't be trusted for the long journey through the countryside) so have to hope baby doesn't come early so we can get a new car in time.

Elephantgrey · 11/12/2017 18:35

Sorry I posted a long non specific rant. I want to talk about birth and what is the safest option for me and the baby. I am worried because I have hypermobility syndrome and that can cause problems during the birth. My mum also has it and she had huge problems and had to have an emergency hysterectomy. I really don't want that. I have been reading about birth options but is making me more panicked.

I am going to make a list of my questions to take to the midwife. It will probably be the length of War and peace. According to the NHS website you don't discuss birth until 34 weeks. That seems very late to me. I might have had the baby by then!

Natsku I hope you are able to get a new car before the baby is born. Do you live far from the hospital?

justtheonethen · 11/12/2017 18:41

Elephant a friend has hyper mobility and her osteo/physio thought a cs was safer. Even with a letter saying this she had to really fight for one. If you decide cs is better for you then do your research about risks etc so you can argue your case. A letter from an osteo or similar would help.
Have a chat to the midwife and see what she suggests. I would ask to be referred to the consultant team soon though so you can get a discussion going with them.

Natsku oh no! That sounds like a nightmare you don't need!

Natsku · 11/12/2017 18:51

Definitely mention it now then elephant as you'd need to be referred to the consultant. Probably cs is the best option for you.

Live an hour and a half away from the hospital, really don't fancy having to take a taxi there, it'd cost a bomb! And ever so slightly terrified of the risk of giving birth on way in the middle of winter so probably with temps of -20! My mum was born in a taxi.

justtheonethen · 11/12/2017 19:01

Oh gosh natsku I hadn't realised you were so far from hospital. Fingers crossed you get it sorted soon.

Shehz21 · 11/12/2017 19:08

justtheonethen Sympathies. The anti emetics are doing feck all for me atm as well..
Atleast we can try and sleep the days away and not die of boredom and acid vomit attacks

natsku that really sucksSad
Hope you are able to sort something out before Baby Nat makes an appearance! An hour and a half though!! That's a long long ride...
Xmas Shock at your mum born in a taxi!

elephant I think midwives should expect different type of questions from different women with diff type of problems. Even though quite early as compared to what the NHS suggest, you could always voice out your concerns and do go in with that list of questions. She should hopefully be able to give you some piece of mind or even refer you to a consultant as nat has mentioned.

justtheonethen · 11/12/2017 19:20

A friend was born on the hard shoulder in the back of the car, delivered by his dad. Also have a friend who gave birth in the car on the way to the hospital Shock.

Sorry not helpful natsku! I'm sure you will be fine.

justtheonethen · 11/12/2017 19:22

Shehz oh the acid vomits. I tried a usual failsafe of ambrosia custard and it came up and was so awful. Never again Sad

Elephantgrey · 11/12/2017 19:47

justtheone did your friend get her caesarean in the end. I am starting to think that might be the best option for me. I missed the bit about you feeling terrible earlier. I hope you feel better soon.

I lot of the information says how bad interventions are and how you should want to reject them all and have a natural birth but it seems to have the opposite effect on me.

I will ask about it. I have got a consultant appointment after Christmas but I think it is good to start asking now as I might have a big fight on my hands.

Nat that is a long way from the hospital. I am also amazed at your mum being born in a taxi.

On a related note a girl I went to school with had twins. On was born in England and one was born in Scotland.

Oklahoma · 11/12/2017 19:55

Elephant you might be better off phoning the hospital directly. I spoke to the head midwife at our hospital because I had similar issues and she was great. Easier to bypass the middle people though.

LucindaE · 11/12/2017 20:20

Just dashing on to welcome Kitcat159. I so agree with justheonethen - Cyclizine has been used since the 1980's, and there are no related birth defects reported. The doctor might have told you that! Very sorry about your horror of vomiting - Hyperemesis is bad enough without that. The manager must know that you can't be penalised for time off connected with pregnancy, so work shoudn't be 'funny' with you. Have you got kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration? Some liquids that have helped others - ice lollies, ice cubes, flat, full sugar coke (maybe frozen as cubes) soda water, orange squash, the juce of tinned fruit, Lucoazade, sips of chocloate milkshake (maybe soya), Elderflower water, fizzy orange and Dr Pepper. Some foods (of a sort) tinned fruit, jelly, cheap ice cream, slices of melon or mango, nibbles of crisps and chips and cuppa soup. I found soda bread bearable, maybe because it was salty, but some disagree.
Meadowhay Hugs over feeling unappealing. For once Matriarchal Mother Hen says, 'Listen to your OH!'.
Natsku Sympathy over transport problems.
Much sympathy too for Elephantgrey. I hope the midwife can give some advice.
Apologies for a short post today. I hope nobody had to do an awful commute through the snow today.
