I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Also visited the midwifery led unit at hospital (I work in that NHS trust and was there for work) and they use essential oil diffusers too!!!! Is nowhere safe? Why are people obsessed with essential oils? My manager had to stop using her diffuser in office as my occupational health report recommended it

Natsku · 29/11/2017 18:48

That's really bad that they're using strong scents in the midwifery led unit, they ought to know better! Every time I go to any health centre or hospital I see signs up warning people that strong perfumes etc. can be really bad for other people (mostly in regards to asthma but of course it's bad for HG sufferers too) so not to use them.

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 29/11/2017 19:21

Evening ladies. I was gingered by my midwife earlier today Sad I was asking for a referral to perinatal mental health due to the HG. She asked what medication I'd had, told her about the 8 weeks of sick notes and Ondansetron, and her response was "have you tried ginger". FML.

She's the same midwife I had last time. She has the most awkward social skills and I complained about her last time. By heck though that woman knows how to deliver a good home birth as she delivered DD in my bathroom, 5 hours after her shift had finished, so I'm actually quite fond of her in an odd way. Fucking hell tho.

Sieze I find the cyclazine and metclopromide combo helpful, but the cyclazine and ondansetron was better. Why won't your GP prescribe it?

Elephantgrey · 29/11/2017 19:21

@deaddoorpost what a beautiful little boy. He has rosy cheeks! You have done so well.

I hope you have a lovely sleep and all the sickness is gone.

Elephantgrey · 29/11/2017 19:24

I am also thinking of Natsku as her brothers appeal started today. From what I have read it seems to be on going. Let's hope for a good outcome. Xx

Natsku · 29/11/2017 19:26

I think it's going well so far Elephant thanks, continues tomorrow.

scottishem · 29/11/2017 19:52

@BATMAN Hahaha gingered. Why do people think the answer to everything is bloody ginger!

I've had a shitter of a day, took yesterday and monday off work cuz of relapse (major vomming), managed to drag myself in today and got welcomed back with loving arms by my line managers... NOT! They just dont get it. And I had to remind them of the law that states that absences due to pregnancy related illness are treated as seperate i.e you cant fire me.
Made even worse by their out right refusal to make "reasonable adjustments" to my duties due to SPD/the fact my pelvis is falling to pieces even on drs recommendations.
So tomorrow is going to consist of a fun meeting whereby I gently remind them of pregnancy discrimination. Worse comes to worse I'll just throw up on one of them Wink

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 29/11/2017 20:02

That sounds really crap Scottishem, I'd definitely vom on them, and maybe add in a little simultaneous wee on the carpet if you can manage it.

Long gone are the days when I can vom without wetting myself

Mustang27 · 29/11/2017 20:16

@thingymaboob I use a lot of essential oils. I make my own massage oil and stretch mark oil. I find the smells actually really pleasant as they aren't perfumed per se, they are a singular smell if she isn't mixing them. So things like mandarin or lemon so really clean smelling. I also find Neroli and bergamot very pleasant too.

What are they using and for a 600 ml diffuser they should be using about 3drops people over do it.

Iv used lemon oil on a sniff bag since the start if other smells set me off sounds like I'm
Lucky.

winkywinkybumbum · 29/11/2017 20:37

I've been admitted. hoping the fluids help soon.

Natsku · 29/11/2017 20:53

The fluids will help winky are they giving you some meds via the IV too? If not, then ask for them as they help immensely.

justtheonethen · 29/11/2017 21:14

Winky I'm so glad. You will feel so much better soon. Flowers

Scottish arseholes! Definitely vom on them and I think a little wee on the carpet would be just Grin

Mustang I can cope with bergamot or grapefruit too, I don't find them perfumed like mixed scents either. People do over do it though!

Natsku best wishes for your brother Flowers

Batman argh. Why won't they stop gingering us?

Actually meant to say I had a consultant appointment yesterday and she was the first HCP to NOT ginger home. She had HG herself and actually asked if everyone had suggested ginger as she found it really annoying! I could have kissed her!

Weirdest appointment though, neither of us had any idea why I was there Hmm. Think midwife referred on as it's an ivf pregnancy but they don't induce early now so was a bit pointless. Had a nice chat about HG though and a student doctor observed and then had a go at finding heartbeat so reassuring anyway. He did my blood pressure with the cuff upside down though, bless him Grin.

Oklahoma · 29/11/2017 23:08

Just checking in. Day 12 post baby here. Still getting big waves of nausea with bf and the sleep deprivation on top of 9 months malnutrition is pretty brutal but it’s still a million times better than HG!

Hang on in there ladies, you’ll get here too.

thingymaboob · 29/11/2017 23:43

@Mustang27 it's interesting that you mentioned mandarin as I had a pregnancy massage at around 21 weeks (a good period) and she used mandarin and I found it really nice. I thinks it's more floral scents like rose / lavender etc and people do overdo it!! What's the other one you recommend? I've never heard of it.

@Oklahoma glad to hear its better than HG. Sorry you're so sleep deprived!

Gennz18 · 30/11/2017 06:06

Meadow your GP Shock what a fucking moron.

Dead congratulations on the new arrival! He's gorgeous. Do you feel better?! I remember prancing round the hospital room after DS (after a CS!) practically singing "having a newborn is sooo much better than being pregnant!!"

I feel like shit. 10+1 today and still feel sick even after 4mg ondansetron every 6 hours. So nauseous - although the meds have stopped me actually vomiting - and now have heartburn.

I pray that this pregnancy goes well because I am never doing this again.

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 30/11/2017 07:07

Gennz 10 weeks is THE WORST. At that stage I could go little other than lie in bed and stare into space. Even on ondansetron and cyclazine I was still so nauseous.

Hang on in there, hopefully it will get better. I magically got much better at 14 weeks, and whilst still nauseous I can function almost like a "normal" human being.

You're not working through it are you?

Mustang27 · 30/11/2017 07:30

Oh god Oklahoma that does sound dreadful still . Hang in there, are you struggling to eat still?

Thingy, bergamot it's quite citrusy I think, oh and just suggested grapefruit I bet that's lovely. I'm off to buy some now. I'm not fond of lavender normally but iv found it tolerable during g this pregnancy.

Just that sounds like a lovely appointment a bit sucky to get ready and out for something you don't need but worth it for the HG chat alone plus hopefully the trainee will have listened and won't ginger anyone in the future too lol.

Aww Gennz that's such a lovely image, not advisable with all those stitches lol but adorable all the same. I bet they all thought you were nuts lol. Do not suffer with that heartburn I did stupidly and only just got the ranitidine but it's made a difference.

But are you Batman??? I bet once you have the baby you will be like "ok that wasn't normal"

Sorry for everyone iv missed iv got tonsillitis and a really shitty cold so feeling utterly miserable. Sickness is still 5/6 times a day that's not retching honestly . Not helped by my glands being the size of golf balls.

@pippanippa hope you are feeling better and your wee girl too and you have gone into labour I remember you mentioning this week for induction.

Gennz18 · 30/11/2017 07:33

Yes I am and what's worse this has been the week from hell - I had to travel to Sydney for 24 hours (am in NZ so this is slightly less dramatic than it sounds!!) and got back home at 1am last night Sad - the sooner I can tell work the better!

I've been going for a promotion so wanted to keep it secret but have reached the point I just don't really care anymore. Plus I look so fat I'm sure everyone has guessed 😂

Booked in for the harmony test next week so hopefully everything will be ok - it can also tell you the gender which is something at least to look forward to! (I don't do surprised in pregnancy ... The whole process is generally so surprisingly unpleasant I take the nice news where I can!!)

Mustang27 · 30/11/2017 08:18

Why does it always come at times like that, I hope you get your promotion. Doesn't really matter travelling is so crap with hg. Haha I bet they haven't but I was in my over bump by about 13 weeks it was definitely a wee bump I think my uterus was laughing at me.

Looking forward to your news about baby sex, what age is your wee boy?

What's it like where you live at this time of year? At the mo we are -1 where I am in Scotland.

Sally8655 · 30/11/2017 08:42

Hello ladies, I'm back, sorry could not Face reading the past few weeks. Been in and out of hospital and even had surgery. Still recovering with stitches in etc. I'll not bore you with the details but it's literally been one thing after another. Had a scan yesterday and baby is fine, I'm still very sick and the dizziness is hitting me hard now. Hope your all well or improving, I'll try to catch up with the thread in my not so bad moments xxxx

seizethecuttlefish · 30/11/2017 11:55

Hi ladies. How we all doing? I can officially report that ondansetron is the dogs whatsits and that hg does not fade after the first trimester (with me anyway). After a few days off it, I'm back to constant nausea and vomiting. So much for consultants knowing what they are talking about! Will get back to drs tomorrow, not sure what my options are but I can't go on like this. I was meant to be at a queen gig on Sunday (I bought the tickets in April) but now bil is going with DH. I'm also meant to be back at work next week but not sure how that's going to happen as I can't stand up and not vom. DH is also travelling for work next week. Sorry, that was a right moan but I'm so frustrated, was just starting to feel normal and then tug gets pulled from under me.
Funny story though. Cat was sick earlier in the week. 4 year old wants to know if Bob is having a baby too.
Hugs to all. I'm not really up to date with reading the thread.
Sally hope things get better soon.
Gennz it's rubbish that promotion always happens at rotten times. Someone is retiring from the team I've been desperate to get into but they will be looking for a replacement to start in June and I'll be on Mat leave. My mum has a saying, what's for you will no go by you. Much better said in a Scottish accent.

LucindaE · 30/11/2017 12:18

Oh dear, suffering all round!
Sally I am so sorry to hear of your admissions, and even having to have surgery.
scottishem I am really indignant at your awful managers, who seem either not to know or to care about the legal aspect to pregnancy related illness. It might be worth asking Pregnancy Sickness Support either on the website or on the 024 7538 2020 number for advice about this discrimination.
Genz I so agree with others, do get an effective anti acid like ranatidine or omprazole. It can make such a huge difference.
Take heart, week 10 is generally considered horrendous. Even those who suffer mildly find things seem to spiral out of control in at that time.
Emu I am sorry to hear of your OH having depression. That is hard on you both. Is he having counselling?
Natsku Good luck with your brother's appeal.
pippasnippa Ah, the induction. Thiking o fyou.

thingymaboob That is hardly your fault if you wish to avoid strong scents. I did find that a lavender sachet held to the nose at night (to ward off the scent of OH, who suddenly smelt to me of roast pork Shock was soothing. But it was, as others say, not too strong.
Seize Not sure if you are on an anti acid? Did you say that they had tried metoclopramide and stemetil and neither were any good? It might be worth phoning 024 7638 2020 to enquire about meds. They might be able to think of something.
crunchie Sorry, a while back you asked me about the green line recommendations. I am not sure what you mean by those, my ignorance is shocking over that. Certainly, treatment and attitudes have improved a lot in the last few years.
BATMAN I so agree that is what scottishem should do.
Meadowhay Sorry, I missed that about your guinea pig.
Oklahoma I do feel for you. That is so unlucky. That nausea with the letdown is awful. I am glad at least you feel a lot better than before birth.

OP posts:
Shehz21 · 30/11/2017 12:37

Lucinda Baby Disco is here too! Grin

cuttlefish So sorry about still feeling shit witj the HG. I really do hope it gets better halfway through the second trimester like me. I started feeling mildly better by 14 weeks and noticed a difference by 16 weeks.
Do actually love that saying though! My mum said that but in French Smile

Genz Argh 10 weeks is just horribleEnvy can totally symphatise but hope you take a turn for the better soon!
Ranitidine is a lifesaver for me! Demand your gp for it! Much better than vile Gaviscon in any case...
Yay about finding out baby sex! I have been the same. Any nice news happily taken whenever possible!

Mustang Hope you are doing good.

Oklahama That really sucks but glad to hear you are feeling better than pre-birth.

Apologies to anyone overlooked, had a mid vom sesh in between writing this post and quite dazed atm...

Shehz21 · 30/11/2017 12:43

thingymaboob Saw your other thread about the NCT class! Don't worry I am sure you will make lots of friends and won't be alienated due to not being able to tolerate strong smells as I am pretty sure a lot of other ladies will find strong smells do the same to them. Do enjoy your class!

scottishem Infuriated by the non sympathetic managers! Hope your meeting went well today and you got the point across about pregnancy discriminationAngry
