Pregnancy nausea drink suggestions!

9 weeks, fairly nauseous most of the time. Managing to eat, pasta and toast mainly. Struggling to drink enough though. Tap water awful. Drank sparkling for a bit, gone off that now. Moved on to lemonade and then San Pellegrino Limonata which I love normally - now that tastes funny too Sad.

Any suggestions? What’s everyone else drinking? Everything just seems repulsive and I’m clearly dehydrated.

Fresh lemonade with lots of lemon juice!

ILoveCwtches · 08/11/2017 19:02

I don't drink sparkling water so I'm it sure how similar it tastes to soda water, but that was my go to drink when I was pregnant. I only discovered it when I was about 7 months pregnant, though (was nauseous/sick throughout).

I struggled with milk, tap water, decaf tea etc (all the things I usually drink). J2O was ok for a bit (passionfruit one, can't quite remember) but other than that I just didn't drink enough until I tried the soda water!

Sorry, it's probably not much help but I hope you find something palatable. Its so frustrating not been able to do something so basic as drink water!

I could only stomache ice cold sparkling water with fresh squeezed lime/lemon till about 14 weeks

LuxuryWoman2017 · 08/11/2017 19:06

I used to drink Lemon Squash which helped calm the nausea, I can't drink it normally but it helped during pregnancy. I also used to suck on lemon and orange boiled sweets.

MarmaladeAtkinsX · 08/11/2017 19:07

I craved cream soda. But found ginger tea good for nausea.

MoodyOne · 08/11/2017 19:10

Water with mint leaves and cucumbers in x

BabyOrSanta · 08/11/2017 19:10

The lemon and lime Powerade stuff from Home Bargains and any other lemon and lime ready made squash - I tried making my own squash but couldn't stomach it so premade with a sports cap. Had to be the sports cap otherwise I drank too much and chucked it up...

LazyDaisy6 · 08/11/2017 19:12

Sparkling water and anything else fizzy - caffeine permitting!!

thepatchworkcat · 08/11/2017 19:16

Thanks all! Don’t think I’ve ever tried cream soda...

OP, as a veteran of 3 pregnancies with horrendous pregnancy sickness, and a longtime member of the HG support thread on here, my suggestions are:

  • Many people find it easier to drink things that are either very hot or freezing cold. I know people who liked to sip scalding hot boiled water.
  • Sometimes you need to avoid actual liquids and opt for ice chips, or ice lollies. I highly recommend Calypos, or Dr White’s Lemonade Ice Lollies.
  • Specific drinks I found helpful at different times: ice-cold chocolate nesquik milk, ice-cold chocolate alprosoy, Frappuccino type drinks from Starbucks, ice-cold sparkling elderflower.
  • Sipping tiny amounts at a time from a straw also helps.
Good luck!

Maybe I need to be freezing my fizzy water/putting ice in it...

For me I would go to Tesco and wander up and down the aisle to see what took my fancy. Give it a go.

thepatchworkcat · 08/11/2017 19:18

Shock elderflower! I love that usually. Might give it a try. Ginger is not appealing in any form.

Not sure I can face Tesco Rain. Hardly left the house for two weeks. Husband is fetching things!

Cola ( not diet) was the only thing that helped with my sickness and the only thing I could stomach for a while in previous and this pregnancy

Lules · 08/11/2017 19:20

Pretentiously, I couldn't drink tap water only Evian.

oldlaundbooth · 08/11/2017 19:20

Flat coke.
Pineapple juice.
Milk.

Hairgician · 08/11/2017 19:22

For me it was pint glass filled with ice then either sprite or coke poured in two thirds up and topped up with water to help it go flat. Saved me when couldn't manage fluids. Also Evian. Couldn't stand even our filtered tap water.

Lucienandjean · 08/11/2017 19:25

I had HG and really struggled to find things I could drink.

Flavoured water, still usually, though sparkling may suit you.
Hot water with a spoon of honey in it.
Ice lollies.
Mint tea (sometimes).

When it all made me sick, sometimes ice cubes were ok.

I did end up in hospital on a drip several times, so maybe I wasn’t that successful!

manchesteruntied · 08/11/2017 19:25

Congrats! It does get better im 11 weeks now and feeling less horrendous now. I still can only drink filtered or bottled water with lemon and lot of ice. Also living on ice lollies despite it being 5 degrees outside! Hth xx

2ducks2ducklings · 08/11/2017 19:26

Blue raspberry Slush Puppies! They saw me through some dark times.

TwinkleTee · 08/11/2017 19:27

Agree with @MotherofPearl - I find really cold things or really hot things more palatable. At the moment ice cold sparkling water or freshly boiled plain water. Sometimes I can even tolerate the barest whisper of a camomile teabag in said boiling water, but only the briefest dunking!

Ollivander84 · 08/11/2017 19:27

San Pellegrino orange?
Bitter lemon (v v cold)
Innocent juicy water (lemon again!)

thepatchworkcat · 08/11/2017 19:28

Thank you everyone Smile

Peppermint tea is ok sometimes, also hot water with lemon slices.

I’m a total coffee fiend normally and I don’t even want that 😭
