I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Lol Seize, at least while you're in this mess it can't get you in a bigger one I guess. DP walked around with a grin on his face all day so my little discomfort was worth it!

DeadDoorpost · 06/11/2017 13:17

Ahaha DH was also really pleased for sexy times last night 😂😂 considering I've not had any sex drive he was totally happy. And I had no discomfort until right at the end.
Baby moving here too but doesn't seem to be doing much else. Had a few twinges but Nothing major. And I know I should eat something but I really don't know what I fancy. Cucumber and cream cheese on cracker bread? But if so if have to walk all the way to asda to get some of it all. Got none of it in the house.

Mustang27 · 06/11/2017 13:18

Lol at peacock husband OnNatures.

Haha Sieze got to love mums, smile and agree whilst hoping she actually sees sense. Oh no I was very dizzy first and second trimester. Often the room Would completely spin like I had been drinking it was awful. It went away eventually but I have tbh I completely ignored it just thinking it was likely due to constant retching and lack of food and liquids. Hopefully the dr will help later.

OnNaturesCourse · 06/11/2017 13:19

The walk might baby on the move ! Worth a shot!

Im kinda off food at the moment but get total random "must eat everything moments".

The last weeks of pregnancy are crazy

MeadowHay · 06/11/2017 14:36

Thanks ladies. It doesn't help that DB's DP's SIL (yes seriously lol) was in hospital a few days prior to me with HG and on a drip like me, and apparently is now 100% better and back at work, therefore evidently I should be the same given we are the same weeks pregnant Hmm. Ridiculous. I mean I'm glad she's feeling much better but from what I've read that's the exception rather than the norm? And doesn't change how I feel.

Tbh though yesterday was my best day yet, I only vomited twice. That's the least in a few weeks. I'm managing to keep fluids down properly now, the last few mornings I have woke up actually needing to pee which is great as I must be getting enough fluid in me. Food is another story but I'm getting bits in here and there.

I would like to be back at work next week if I can manage but I think it seems unlikely at this stage. I also think it's funny how my family think my colleagues would all not bat an eyelid if I was vomiting in the bins around us...I work in a huge open-plan office so it would be really awful for everyone sitting around me if I was being sick - the loos are not super close so I don't think I could make it there each time. Bleurgh.

Hope ladies who are close to labour have a speedy time of it soon...I think a birth on here would cheer me up...no pressure lol Grin.

Is it really weird when baby starts to kick and stuff? I have weird sensory things cos of having Asperger's and I'm irrationally anxious about how I'm going to cope with stuff like that as I'm hypersensitive to touch as it is and hyper-aware of movements in my body (like at the moment I'm struggling to ignore the pulse in my neck, yuck).

DeadDoorpost · 06/11/2017 14:43

meadow I'm kidmnda undiagnosed Aspergers as I really don't feel like getting the diagnosis just yet (but definitely on there no doubt) and the first few movements you'll feel aren't strong anyway, more like getting odd butterflies in your stomach. It took me a week to realise what they were.
Once they get stronger it may feel weird but I've mostly enjoyed them in the sense that it's fascinating watching my stomach move. I tend to find myself wondering what he's doing in there.
I don't seem to have sensory issues though with my own body except I hate and panic when I can feel my own heartbeat. So you may find it odd you may not. It's a gradual process so you'll have time to get used to it.

OnNaturesCourse · 06/11/2017 15:16

It's definitely odd, but at first it's sort of "was that a movement... " kinda thing. It builds up. Xxx

Bunnyfluffy · 06/11/2017 15:33

Meadow I also work in large open plan office and understand the fear of vomiting (and pissing myself, which happens when I vomit too hard) in front of everyone. Loo is not very near where I sit and sometimes there’s a queue, and the disabled loo is always full of people doing their make up Confused

pippanippa · 06/11/2017 16:20

So sorry to hear how things are going Sally and Corkscrew, the first few months are definitely the hardest. Corkscrew I can only sympathise on managing whilst looking after another child too, I've found it so hard looking after my toddler, but have been so lucky that my husband has been able to take occasional time off work / work flexibly to help out when needed. Still, I know what you mean, sometimes it would be lovely just to hibernate for a bit and it's so hard when you can't do that. I hope things start to get just a little bit more bearable for you soon.

Meadow, I don't like the baby's movements much (can't usually confess this to people as they look at me like I'm a terrible mother...). Obviously it's great from a reassurance perspective to know that baby is ok(!), however, to me it's always felt like having an alien being in my belly, I just find it weird! In early days it's like wind, then progresses to feeling like you've swallowing a goldfish which is flip-flopping around, and then later, having your ribs/cervix/everything pummelled (you can see I'm a natural optimist Wink)

No sign of baby here....at all...

Mustang27 · 06/11/2017 16:47

My other half is Aspergers meadow he is also hypersensitive to touch and noise so I’m glad he doesn’t have to grow our baby for his sake but I have to admit I’m completely with pippa, I don’t find it a particularly enjoyable experience, its strange once they get big enough to be star fishing or moving your entire stomach but it does build up very slowly honestly. So hopefully that helps with it not being to triggering.

Oh Bunny I feel your pain the retching is so violent some times it’s impossible to switch on your pelvic floor. I find standing cross leg just bent over from the hips up prevents the pissy pants embarrassment. Worth a try

Mustang27 · 06/11/2017 16:49

On meant to say Dead well done on the sexy time front ladies. I’m not mentioning this to hubby incase he gets ideas problem being I know bf kills my libido even worse than pregnancy, poor man.

Did you get your soft cheese, cucumber and cracker bread?

LucindaE · 06/11/2017 17:04

I hope corkscrew and sally are feeling a little less desperate today.
MeadowHay DB's DP's SIL was lucky - is all I can say, and this invidious comparison aimed at you seems to be rather third hand at best! Ah, and also this talk of 'Positive Thinking' curing serious ilnesses can be pernicious, too, when it is used as a form of victim blaming. I really hate it when women are made to feel guilty for having this or any illness.
seize This is rather a long stomach bug?!!!!!! Sad
Bunnyfluffy I do sympathize. I once puked and wet myself in public on the street. I was glad that I didn't have to see those people again.
It seems to me your workplace needs more loos, or a place where people can do their make up.
I hope everyone is coping today.
Watch me cross post. Cheering DeadDoorPost and OnNaturesCourse on for labour.

mustang I didn't 😭😭 but I did get some sparkling elderflower water so in happy with that. Ended up eating popcorn chicken again. I really don't fancy anything in particular it's driving me mad.

CatalpaTree · 06/11/2017 17:34

Hi all, Can I join please?

I’ve been lurking for weeks cheering you all on and getting some comfort that I’m not the only one feeling like this!

I’m 22 weeks and got prescribed Stemetil which the doctor then said I shouldn’t take as I was too far along.

Today I’ve been prescribed Metoclopramide - did this work well for anyone else? Any side effects? How late in pregnancy have people taken their meds?

I’m quite scared of taking it but know I should. Looking for reassurance after the pregnancy sickness support website scared me saying the side effects are very bad for the mother!

seizethecuttlefish · 06/11/2017 18:03

Just popping on to say dr was good. Omprezole for the acid reflux, as that’s probably adding to the sickness, another prescription for ondansetron (but he wants to discuss it with the consultant as he’s not happy to keep prescribing), no idea what’s causing the dizziness but he suspects...wait for it...ondansetron, and another sick line. He’s said 4 weeks and we’ll review. I think he’s just horrified to see my without full makeup and looking groomed. He did ask if I was drinking enough and I said that my very helpful support group (you guys) had suggested soda water and it was a game changer. 1 -nil to HG heroes!

OnNaturesCourse · 06/11/2017 18:14

Seize glad the doctor trip went well, it's nice when you get one that listens and takes note. The omeprazole should work, I swear by it - saved me from frustrated tears so many times.

DeadDoorpost · 06/11/2017 18:27

Tree I'm 38+1 and still on medication. I think most if us will be on some form of another for the whole of our pregnancies.
For the time I took it Metaclopramide worked well (until the last day but by then my body was really resisting everything) the concern is purely because it can cause twitching etc but if you're not showing those then it's all good. There are others you can take though if they don't work or you're concerned. I'm on ondansetron but some Drs can really object to prescribing it

Pollifilla · 06/11/2017 18:46

Hey everyone!
Haven't been on for a while because we have been having a hellish few weeks with illness in Polli towers :-( Even Mr.Polli got ill and that NEVER happens!

There are a LOT of new posts since last time, so I'm just gonna say hi to anyone new and hope everyone else is coping :-)

RE sickness here - I went cold turkey on the meds because ondansetron had me so constipated, I wanted to die and the cyclizine was MAKING me sick! Had the best few days so far after I stopped the meds but things have slipped backwards since then. Have a horrid cold at the moment and the coughing prompts vomiting, so that's not exactly helping.

I have my 16 week midwife appt. tomorrow - god bless the poor woman when she asks how I've been! I fear that once the floodgates open...!

CatalpaTree · 06/11/2017 19:34

Thanks Door.

That acid reflux sounds awful.

I'm off to add soda water to the online shop!

DeadDoorpost · 06/11/2017 19:50

polli Yeah, i found that the coughing triggered me being sick too. Not nice at all.

BlueButTrue · 06/11/2017 19:57

Wow, so much to catch up on! Glad the thread is moving nicely and active although ill sometimes struggling to keep up Grin

Such a busy bee!

I’ve been in town today, getting eyebrows done and what not etc, plus stocking up on all of my cleaning products and picking up a few hats for pending DS.

I feel really good today. HG wise AND antenatal depression wise...

I’m a tad excited for baby now. Gosh, it feels so good to say that. I’ve been so sad and dreading everything and anything. I’ve literally spent all the time after my 12 week scan feeling sceptical and like I’d made a huge mistake.

Hope everyone else is okayish.

Dead Go to Asda and get that baby on the move. Do you find cucumber helps with sickness?

I still need to pack my hospital bag Blush

Polli Similar thing happened in my Mum’s household last week. My dad never gets sick and he was really ill with the viral they all had... Not my DNan though. She never catches anything Grin Good luck at your appointment and open up to your MW if you feel able Flowers

seize Did you try Renitide or whatever it’s called? Can’t remember if you had. That and Omoprazole is currently a life saver for me but previously Omoprazole hasn’t done anything

Natsku · 06/11/2017 20:30

Bloody hell Blue pack your hospital bag!!

LucindaE · 06/11/2017 20:42

CatalpaTree Welcome to the thread nobody wants to join! Besides soda water, here are some drinks/foods(of a sort) that have proved helpful. Ice lollies, flat full sugar coke, the juice and fruit of tinned fruit, Elderlower Water, ice cubes, Dr Pepper, Lucoazade, orange squash, fizzy orange, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), slices of melon, mango, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps or chips, jelly and cheap ice cream. I believe biscuits of various sorts have been mentioned. A really healthy diet.
As others say, the concerns over Metoclopramide are about the minor chance of the mother developing twitchiness. I only know of one woman in over seven years of these threads who got that and while she kept on with it for weeks after it began, as you shouldn't, she was still fine when she stopped.
Pollifilla You poor thing! You can get something for the constipation with Ondansetron - lactulose is one, and there are the glycerine suppositories (which someone else has to get for you, as they won't sell them to someone pregnant, though they use them in hospital for pregnant women). Do ask about that tomorrow. Don't give up on the meds. Also, have you got an effective anti acid? It males all the differnce.

BlueButTrue · 06/11/2017 20:48

Natsku I’m a piss taker, I should of had it packed by 37 weeks the latest Blush

I keep putting it off!

Was going to do it tonight in theory but MIL is here painting the baby’s room so I’m busy being hostess etc.

I’ll do it tomorrow, and if I haven’t done it I will deprive myself of any nice things for this next week. It must be done!

justtheonethen · 06/11/2017 21:24

Too much to read back Blush, sorry had a bad couple of days and struggled with screens. Think I jinxed myself by saying I felt it was a bit more under control!

I haven't read back properly, only skimmed for birth announcement so hugs all round. Hang in there those in the early days, fight for meds that work and just survive each day. At 22 weeks it's still shit but nowhere near as bad.

Those close to birth I'm waving my sick bags like Pom poms for you Grin
