Maternity jeans - how to keep them up?

Just spent £40 on a pair of topshop jeans but they need hoiking up every 30 secs...anyone any suggestions? Will they get better the further I go on - am 19 weeks - or shall I try to take them back (worn them) and complain?

are they "over the bump" ones? MIne didn't really fit until I was quite big - which was a shame as obviously my pre preg ones didn't fit at ALL

mmelody · 30/03/2007 11:54

I have some from D.P's and am constantly pulling them up. The only trousers I find to stay up are huge 'over the bump' style. (I call them my Laurel and Hardy trousers)

skirmish · 30/03/2007 11:57

my topshop ones were the same...if it wasn't for long tunic style tops, i'm sure people would constantly have put money in my 'coin slot'!

and i got them when i was 31 wks, so having a bigger bump didn't seem to help

MrsBadger · 30/03/2007 12:02

ooh, interesing - I'm 20wks and comparing and contrasting my 3 pairs of mat trousers:

current favourites come right up over the bump like these - fetching I know but v comfy.

ones with a jersey waistband like these need a belt to keep them up at the moment, but that goes under the bump and the jersey bit goes round the bump so they're still comfy

ones like the jersey turn-top trousers here are still too big and have no beltloops so am keeping them till the next expansion!

Oh, MrsB I have just taken delivery of those Next ones. they are going to be indispensable!

I got a pair of full panel jeans from Blooming Marvelloud and they are drining me mad. Doing the hoiking thing too!

snipersmum · 30/03/2007 12:05

sorry but all my jeans needed hitching up every 30 seconds - and it only got worse when I got bigger - now at 30 weeks I am reduced to 2 skirts. Made me realise why those hideous dungarees are still so popular.

peanuthead · 30/03/2007 12:05

No they're under the bump ones - they didn't have any over the bump humpty dumpty ones. If they're not going to work then why sell them? And who designed them?? Think I'll attempt to take them back then unless someone on here comes up with a miraculous idea!

not 30 weeks, 39 weeks, my mind has gone.....

ceolas · 30/03/2007 12:06

Oh well not much longer then, snipersmum

BizzyDint · 30/03/2007 12:07

get a bump cover thingy if it's a problem. they look like a boob tube but you wear them round your middle. then you have no gaps or coin slots etc..works well for those early months when you aren't really big enough for maternity wear.

skirmish · 30/03/2007 12:07

i found the best trousers were combats from debenhams that had stretchy panels in the side pockets, and a snip at £25, and i lived in non-maternity drawstring linen trousers...but i think it is all dependent on how 'big' you are. Have you tried the bump bands from topshop? I personally hated them, but friends i know have lived in theirs

lizziemun · 30/03/2007 12:10

I have the same probelm, i don't wear luckly i a sahm so can get away with leggings at the moment.

I am trying to find over the bump ones as i had these last time and are much more comfortable.

greenday · 30/03/2007 12:21

Afraid to say, only big over-the-bump types will do. Also, when you get to 3rd trimester, that's all you'll really want. Comfort will overrule fashion.

greenday · 30/03/2007 12:25

oh, one more thing, if you can return those topshop ones, I would say do. I tried them on myself and they were really uncomfortable. Got a few friends who are pregnant too and a few of them bought those topshop jeans and regretted so far. They're hoiking it up every other minute too.

ProfYaffle · 30/03/2007 12:27

My dh suggested braces when I was pg. He was actually quite surprised when I went

Enid · 30/03/2007 12:28

the under the bump from topshop were CRAP - that tiny elasticated bit - feh!

hennes over the bumps were good

MrsBadger · 30/03/2007 12:29

ooh, I have braces
you have to have them for fencing to prevent waistgape and swordpokeage
you wear them under your top
not sure how they'd cope with pg norks though
[strokes beard thoughtfully]
