@MegsMog I'm so sorry. Flowers I hope the RMC can help get you some answers. Someone on the TTC after miscarriage thread linked to a really interesting study about women who get pregnant very easily and quickly and then miscarry frequently. Something to do with your body not rejecting eggs even when they aren't viable. Four miscarriages in four months seems to suggest the study might be worth seeking out (sorry I don't have a link). So sorry for everything you've been through.

peachgreen · 29/07/2017 10:40

@Smurf123 I take the same strength as recommended by my mum's MS consultant (studies show it can prevent or delay the onset of MS so should be taken by those who may be at genetic risk), and my midwife was happy for me to continue BUT it's much stronger than is normally recommended in pregnancy so if you don't need it for anything else I'd chat to your midwife first.

rider1975 · 29/07/2017 15:57

So sorry Megs
I also heard of the study "unfussy womb" or similarly unflattering. After two early MMCs after easily conceiving, I thought (think..) I might suffer the same. It seems a real lottery.

FuzzyOwl · 29/07/2017 16:31

Sorry Smurf but I have no idea. Your midwife or even a pharmacist should be able to tell you.

I recently heard about that study as well. Has it just been published? Seems strange so many of us have heard of it recently. This is my fifth pregnancy and I've always got pregnant very easily but had two miscarriages. This pregnancy is the cycle following my last miscarrige and both pregnancies are the result of only dtd once in the month, which to me seemed unlikely for conception especially since I am almost 40.

I've woken up this morning with a horrendous head cold.. Although honestly I'm not sure if it is a cold or the fact that I've now gone 2 weeks without any hayfever meds... Despite spending the past week non stop sneezing.. Today I feel like my entire sinuses are blocked .. Any tips for getting rid of it / dealing with it? Parents in law are over staying from Europe for a week.. Today is supposed to be a trip to the aquarium and dinner at their rental house but right now I feel like just staying curled up in bed.. They go home in 2 days and we won't see them again until at least Christmas so that isn't really an option..
Hope everyone else is well 🙂

rider1975 · 30/07/2017 08:55

Smurf oh no and bad timing when you have family over. I don't know which meds are pregnancy-friendly but my local pharmacy is always helpful on the advice.
I was up early - always feeling sicky on a morning and started thinking over money. I'm self employed and can't afford time off at all (but I do work part time) so it'll be wholly down to my partner to take stat leave but as he's new to his job he won't get a paternity package

TeaAndPjs · 30/07/2017 10:20

megsmog I'm so sorry

FuzzyOwl · 30/07/2017 10:54

Sorry to hear that Smurf and would a long, hot shower help as well as some paracetamol?

Lifeofpies · 30/07/2017 11:07

Sounds rotten Smurf - can you skip the aquarium and stay curled up for a little longer? Hot shower and some olbas oil?!

Rider that's a lot to think about... hope you're not feeling worried. The folk over on the self employed board might have some helpful insight if you need it at all.

Fuzzy, we sound similar - my MMC and this pg were also the result of only dtd once in the cycle, and I'm nearly 40. I do wonder if my body is just in panic 'make a baby' mode though certainly felt like it hormone wise. may even be releasing two eggs each cycle (which I believe is why twins are more common for older women?)

DH about to take DS swimming and I was going to do some sorting in the loft, but bugger that. Netflix and bed beckon.

FuzzyOwl · 30/07/2017 12:15

Hadn't thought of the multiple egg release Lifeofpies. In total I have had five pregnancies (two children and currently pregnant) and all but one have been from dtd once in that month. This has all be in my mid thirties onwards. However, for three of the pregnancies we were trying for a couple of months and conceived in the third cycle.

I keep having dizzy spells and some ligament pain but otherwise feeling ok. Even though it doesn't mean anything, I take comfort from feeling unwell!

Smurf123 · 30/07/2017 13:48

Thank you for your ideas.. I wasn't sure if it was OK to take paracetemol? Hot shower helped briefly but I'm definitely feeling the need to go back to be bed again after a brief walk.

Hazandduck · 30/07/2017 22:30

I'm so sorry @Megs. I have also heard the theory about the unfussy womb, I have been with my partner for ten years, last year was the first time we had unprotected sex ever and I fell pregnant instantly, then miscarried. I then fell pregnant again the next time we slept together without having a period, the second time we'd had unprotected sex, and then miscarried again. We then had protected for a few months and then I fell pregnant the first time we had unprotected again. It did worry me that it happened so easily, as lucky as I felt I think my body couldn't tell the difference between a good or bad egg! Why did I fall pregnant so easily?? It could be coincidence but it is maybe something worth looking in to if you also fall so easily. Be kind to yourself and I hope you get some answers soon xxx

@Smurf, paracetamol is fine to take, and definitely worth it if you're suffering. Just make sure it's not the paracetamol tablets that have other things like caffeine etc in them.

X

Brenna24 · 30/07/2017 22:41

Poor you Smurf. Paracetamol is fine, Ibuprofen is not allowed.

Sweetyboo · 30/07/2017 23:02

Hi ladies 18 weeks now. Heartbeat is still string but im getting worried now as i cant feel baby move at all. 17weeks i felt slightly movements & kicks but then its nothing now im scared or mayb scarring myself. Cant wait for my scan in 2 weeks but really stressing now

Sweetyboo · 30/07/2017 23:03

Not string hB is strong

Sweetyboo · 30/07/2017 23:07

@mammabear4 woosh woosh sound in doppler is ur blood going in pleasanter thats not HB. I was mistaken too, as hb is faster & louder. I got doppler & i love it as my midwife alwas away for month or more & i cant keep worrying so i check every other day & love listening to the strong HB but now im worrying myself as im 18 w & cant feel baby move at all. Is it normal?

Brenna24 · 30/07/2017 23:16

You don't feel regular movements until well after 20 weeks, something like 24 or 25 weeks i think. At the moment baby can change places and start hitting the placenta instead etc, or just hide out somewhere.

@Sweetyboo I'm 18 weeks too, and I haven't felt consistent movements either. It's not expected until later though, so try not to worry; I know it just feels like such a long wait between the 16 week appointment (with the heartbeat) and the 20 week scan! Every body is different and every pregnancy is different too--an anterior placenta means women don't feel it for much longer again, as the baby is hitting it rather than you. My only evidence that baby is moving is that every once in a while it lands HARD on my bladder lol, and I feel fine 1 second then like I've been sat on lol!

@Smurf I had the same earlier--hayfever straight into a headcold! For my cold I just took showers or steamed my head with a bit of Vicks in the water, used salt water gargle for a sore throat and simple linctus for a tickly cough. I didn't have pain so didn't take paracetamol (the fever on the first day or so is there to help you get rid of it, so I never try to suppress a fever if it only lasts 1 or 2 days). The cold stayed around a bit longer than it normally would for me and really wiped me out more than normal, so take your cues from your body and stay in bed as needed! Your number 1 job now is staying healthy and everyone understands this! X

Smurf123 · 31/07/2017 08:37

Thanks wlmc.. I've taken today off work to stay in bed to try and get rid of it.. I think really my main worry is that the cold has coincided with the 6 week mark Confused I'm just hoping everything is OK when I go on Wed for scan.. I didn't realise that with the fever so is good to know.. Don't have a huge amount of pain.. Some aches and a bit of a headache but it's more just a heavy feeling really..

Brenna24 · 31/07/2017 11:05

I have started reducing my steroids this morning. I was on 20mg for 7 weeks, will be taking 10mg for a week, then 5mg for a week. When I started them it seemed like an impossible hope to finish the course. I DID IT!!!!! Grin Now just to hope that all is well on my scan on friday. There is another milestone. I have never made it as far as the 12 week scan. That also seemed like Mission Impossible. Woke up at 4.30am feeling as sick as a dog too. It lasted until about 10, then settled a bit. I think I feel a tiny ray of hope.

Lifeofpies · 31/07/2017 11:31

Grin Utter - I was convinced my over zealous overies would = twins (but no!)

Really hope it goes as smoothly as possible coming off steroids, Brenna. Are you getting lots of support?

Tmi but I'm getting lots of blood tinged discharge today. No pain though. Any thoughts? I'm not worrying yet, but it isn't something I've had before in early pregnancy.

Hazandduck · 31/07/2017 11:48

@Lifeofpies how far along are you? Could it be implantation? Can you call the midwife just to get checked? I think if it's just kind brown-tinged that is old blood and not anything to worry about but still worth getting checked over x

Brenna24 · 31/07/2017 11:58

About as much support as you would expect from the NHS Pies. Grin My midwife has deemed me high risk in the first trimester and thus referred me to consultant led care for at least my first trimester. My first appointment with the consultant is on the 14th august. When I will be over 13 weeks. The clinic who diagnosed the NK cell problem said they would supply prescriptions if my GP or EPU wouldn't. My GP would not as she has no idea about the risks of steroids in pregnancy or what the NK cell testing was (fair enough as she could be legally liable if anything happened to me or the baby). The EPU wouldn't see me before 6 weeks and I needed the steroids in place before I got pregnant to start as soon as I had a BFP. The NK cell clinic were really difficult about the precriptions. It took a week of calls and e-mails each time before the prescriptions for the prednisolone and progesterone went int he post. And I got some really stroppy comments about how it wasn't their place to be supplying it! The clinic that we did the hormone testing with have been lovely and supportive and are still checking my progesterone levels each fortnight. They are in contact regularly by phone and e-mail. The EPU haven't done any prescribing but want to see me any time I have any concerns, are happy to scan and are equally lovely. Thanks to the latter two I have stayed sane thus far.
