@Smurf123 this time is such a worrying one but hopefully the support here will make it a little easier for you. Sounds like all is going well so far and I hope it continues that way.

TheLegendOfBeans · 28/07/2017 16:46

Be careful with home Dopplers mamma; they can easy pick up placental blood flow and the umbilical cord "swoosh and tap" can be mistaken for a heartbeat.

Maybe take yours with you when you see the midwife next to get a crash course in how to make sure you're using it right?

Ended up in hospital yesterday as her was going nuts and I was feeling shite. Nothing to report except rest required but saw the baby again and he's all good 👍

Miami81 · 28/07/2017 17:01

I decided not to get a Doppler and I think that midwives are supporting a campaign to get them banned. Mainly because if people have concerns the midwives want to see them in the triage, not have them use a Doppler (potentially incorrectly) and then ignore their concerns (whether it is just feeling wrong or lack of movement or whatever). The main thing I read was that you are the mom, nobody can tell how you feel and if you feel wrong you should trust your instincts.
Anyway all I am trying to say is don't ignore other funny feelings just based on a Doppler.

Hi and welcome Smurf. The first few weeks are such a horrible long time. I hope everything works out for you this time.

Amy I also love hearing about people who are later on, especially those I was on the TTC after MC threads with so long ago. It makes it all feel possible.

thisismadness77 · 28/07/2017 18:57

Hey ladies. Can you help me with maths? Date of last period was 8 July. Dtd sun 16 and tue 18 as predictor said mon to fri that week was my window. So not long ago at all. I know it's easy to symptom spot but I genuinely felt a bit queasy the last few days. Shattered too. I can't decide when my next period is due. I don't even want to test straightaway as given my 3 mc in last 18 months, I don't want to be counting the days to scan too soon. Also it's my 40th next month and I am already anticipating spoiling it (and first hol with hubby in 6 yrs) as I always seem to miscarry around 6-7 weeks. I know that sounds ungrateful I'm just so despondent. But if I was to test... when should I? Thanks ladies

FuzzyOwl · 28/07/2017 19:05

I'd try to hold off until Monday or Tuesday if you can @thisismadness77. Fingers crossed.

mammabear4 · 28/07/2017 19:11

Welcome smurf! Really hope everything is ok for you this time.

Thanks ladies for all the advice on dopplers, definitely understand the worries and would never ever not go in to be checked if I felt something was wrong just cos I could find heartbeats. I found two separate places where I could hear the "woosh woosh woosh" sound so I'm assuming that is the two babies, was only those two specific sites and kept moving as babies were wriggling around - it has given me some reassurance but at the same time I know I would panic if I couldn't find anything - I might be crazy to give myself this potential new source of worry but for now it's been good to hear them - especially as in my area they no longer listen for the heartbeat at the 16 week appointment!

TeaAndPjs · 28/07/2017 19:51

Sorry to hear some of you are havi g a hard time of it! Hope things get better soon.

Glad to hear of good scans

Nothing to report here, tired and feeling crappy but liking the reassurance from that

@Smurf123 Welcome! I remember you from the TTC thread. So pleased to see you here. Getting past the stage of your previous MC is a massive milestone - I'll be thinking of you this week.

For me the worry has definitely lessened. I don't knicker-check like I did in the first trimester and having a good scan post-12 weeks was the most amazing experience of my life. And although I know I'm not out of the woods yet (14+5) I do feel able to actually consider myself pregnant, with a BABY - something I haven't been able to do up until now.

I will be so glad to see you reach this point too. Flowers

TheLegendOfBeans · 28/07/2017 21:37

The baby's heartbeat ought to sound like "a tiny galloping horse" according to the midwife who sounded me at week 15 - bonkers but probably the best description I've heard. Swooshing is umbilical cord or placental flow.

IMHO not dopplering expectant mums at 16w is unacceptably poor. A switched on midwife will usually find a heartbeat within the first two minutes.

mogulfield · 28/07/2017 22:52

mamma my quarters were all quite nice actually, Lossiemouth you'll probably get a 4 bed detached House with a decent garden, I adored Lossiemouth, and leeming was where I met my DH!
Welcome smurf

Is anyone else quite emotional at the mo?! I'm normally quite a level headed person, but my moods this week have been all over the place Confused I think partly because I'm so worried about making 12 weeks.

mammabear4 · 28/07/2017 22:59

utter and beans I know, it does seem ridiculous. They did listen for the heartbeat 3 years ago when I was pregnant with my DD but apparently they've changed it as they sometimes can't find the heartbeat at 16 weeks and it creates unnecessary stress and referral for scan? Hmm

beans I think you were right - I've just watched YouTube videos of the difference between placenta/your hb/baby's hb and definitely think it was the placenta I was picking up before - I only had a quick go as DD was running around so I've just cracked it back out (part of me felt like I should just leave it but curiosity got the better of me) I've just spent a good 20 mins and found a couple of places where it was definitely my slower hb (no idea what you can hear that through though?) a couple of places I could hear the woosh woosh of placenta and then 100% heard the "galloping" hb - at first it sounded a bit overlapped so I thought maybe the twins were possibly on top of each other and then heard a few kind of wobble board noises and at the same time felt little flutters and think they moved - then found the galloping noise at either side of my lower abdomen. Phew. Feel like I've learnt something and I'm satisfied for now but also think will leave it until the 20 week scan now I don't want to get neurotic and start trying to check in every hour - scan is the 21st August and DH is back 18th so won't be tempted to get the Doppler out for him to listen either.

Conclusion: it has given me some slight reassurance but definitely more trouble than it's worth! Best left to the professionals!

mammabear4 · 28/07/2017 23:07

mogul sorry I cross posted with you then! I've heard lots of good things about Lossiemouth it does sound amazing up there. We're in Yorkshire and my DH is from Manchester originally - settling near Leeming would be a perfect in between of where both our families are plus it's a gorgeous area too. Trying to not plan too thoroughly for the future as I know DH isn't 100% going to get where he wants to go but really got my fingers crossed.

I've definitely been more emotional - exactly the same I'm very stoic usually. I welled up today watching the Heffalump Movie with my DD 😬 and oh god watching Love Your Garden and Long Lost Family on ITV the other night - I was full on sobbing!!

MegsMog · 29/07/2017 05:19

I'm afraid I'm out. Four in four months. Sad

I hope I'll be back one day soon, good luck to all! X
