I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Wasn't bravery Holly, it was stupidity and forgetfulness! Re: acid reflux, I'm on Omerprazole which has really help. I think you might be able to get it over the counter? Not sure. If not, I had some success with Gaviscon Advance liquid - but depends if you can stomach it as the texture is disgusting. Another friend swore by the Gaviscon Double Action tablets. As an aside, I can't believe you're having a baby tomorrow Grin Do you have a time? Can they bump you up the list because of your HG so you're not starving all day?

14 hours is great bean. I hope it continues!

Massive sympathy to you Mellee Sad I'll never forget that ondansetron constipation. I'm so glad I'm not having to take it now and I'm really hoping the HG won't flare up too much in the third trimester so I have to go back on it. I'm still very sore even though I haven't been constipated for weeks, hoping it heals by labour. Hope you manage to find some sort of comfortable position today. Maybe half prop yourself up with pillows?

Hollyhop17 · 05/07/2017 08:56

I'm actually petrified he might have moved this morning. As much as I dont want a section I have prepared meticulously for it now and mentally am expecting to have hom tomorrow. I was told at my pre op appt yesterday that they send people away if the baby has turned so I am worried this will happen to me. Going to get in touch with my perinatal team this morning to see if they can recommend that I have it regardless. I don't have a time, no. I just have to ring at 6 tomorrow morning. First thing I will tell them is I have HG so hoping that will bump me up...

Lemondrop99 · 05/07/2017 09:08

Be honest with them about the effect it would have on your mental health. You struggled to accept the C section, and now you've come to terms with that, I can completely see how stressful it would be if you had to suddenly prepare for a different birth. Get your consultant involved if you have to.

That said, he seemed quite comfy where he was so I'll be surprised if he's moved!

pippanippa · 05/07/2017 09:09

Lemon sorry about the rice vomit, not pleasant at all! Spaghetti is more my personal my vomit nemesis - oh and sweetcorn after I choked on a kernel mid vomit (that's a particular low point in life I would like not to repeat!).

Holly I second what others have already said about acid reflux, I slept pretty much sitting up for the last month. Used gaviscon/avoided tomatoes and acidic food etc but that didn't seem to help. Goes away completely after birth once the stomach has more room, just another one of those delightful end of pregnancy horrors. Hope you get c-section as planned tomorrow, it must be so difficult planning for one thing and mentally preparing and then having a sudden change of plan.

Oh and Mellee that constipation/piles combination just sounds the worst!

A bad start to the morning here, clearly overdid it yesterday (though have a squeaky clean flat to show for it!). Hi to everyone, including newcomers (sorry, the thread has moved so quick that I have already forgotten names!).

Lemondrop99 · 05/07/2017 09:09

Sorry just saw you already said you're contacting your perinatal team! (That's what happens when I'm trying to reply while getting ready at the same time!). Good idea. Definitely push for what you need.

Lemondrop99 · 05/07/2017 09:11

Oh Pippa!!!! Stop making my mistake! I'm constantly overdoing it with cleaning and paying for it later. Mother Hen will not be happy with you!

Two votes for spaghetti now. I haven't eaten much spaghetti but I can completely imagine how foul that must be too. I'll add that to my avoid list.

Oklahoma · 05/07/2017 09:15

No such thing as TMI on here Mellee - I went to Dr yesterday cause mine were so painful and thankfully the cream he gave me seems to be helping. He also observed that my body really doesn't like being pregnant. No shit!!

Holly the acid reflux went as soon as the baby came out. That's physical (no space due to baby) rather than hormonal so please don't worry about that lingering. I found ranitidine saved my sanity but I doubt it's worth getting for 24h since you're having a baby tomorrow!!!

20 weeks scan today. I really hope all these meds haven't hurt the baby! Wish me luck guys

Hollyhop17 · 05/07/2017 09:25

Thanks for your advice all. Will let you know what my team say.

Best of luck for your scan Oklahoma. I am quite certain the meds have done nothing but I can understand the worry. We'll be thinking of you today, so do let us know how it goes!

Natsku · 05/07/2017 09:50

Good luck Holly hopefully he hasn't moved and things can just go according to plan now.

I'm feeling much worse today, thrown up everything I've eaten and drunk since yesterday afternoon but the midwife didn't seem to understand when I called a little while ago and the OB wasn't there today so couldn't talk to him. Don't know what to do now, was relying on getting the other medicine but couldn't get the midwife to understand me (bad phone connection plus language barrier).

Lemondrop99 · 05/07/2017 10:35

Hope the scan goes well Oklahoma, let us know how you get on. Also - half way point! Woo!

Sorry you're feeling so rough Natsku. Hope you manage to get some meds soon. Is it something your GP could help with?

LucindaE · 05/07/2017 10:59

beanhunter Welcome. Sorry you feel so awful. Do go for meds as you can have good days as well as bad ones and unfortunately almost certainly need them. Also invest in some kesostix - available from any chemists - to check for the early stages of dehydration. Do you find flat full sugar coke, the juice and fruit of tinned fruit - esp. peaches and pears - Elderlower water, soda water, ice lollies, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps, cheap ice cream, sips of chocolate milkshake - maybe soya - or coconut milk any good? There's Lucoazade and Dr Pepper too. Some lucky people can eat fruit. Many find it too acid.
Hollyhop Do let us know. What an anti climax if baby has turned. They love doing that; sympathies. Great advice from Oklahomaand others over acidity. I have never heard of it lingering, when the Hyperemesis goes, as 99 per cent of the time, it does within a few hours of giving birth. As Melleebacca and others say, if it develops late it is usually caused by lack of space, so that problem will be going by defnition! I had it from a few days after conception, so the cause was different.
NatskuSorry you are having a bad day.
NonStopDisco Enjoy your baby and take a break from studies - it is such a short time, believe MotherHen, and to be reveled in.
Great advice from Oklahoma and everyone.
Waves to pippasnippa and everyone.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.
DeadDoorPost Ah - you are the same age as my daughter. Very brave of you to have got your dissertation done in such circumstances. Ha, Ha, about replying to scamster. When they phone up, I talk to them in Welsh. Grin
Lemondrop Sorry about rice, oh dear.
wealsedee Great advice from others about educating your workplace. Sorry they are putting pressure on you.
Melleebacca That sounds awful. I hope you get some relief from the piles at least with cream.

My boss hasn't replied to my text lucinda :) think he's not talking to me Grin oh well..... Smile

Lemondrop99 · 05/07/2017 11:50

Lucinda, I've had constant heartburn since about Week 5 too! It's sooooooo annoying. I can't wait for it to go (which I'm hoping it will. Bit worried breastfeeding hormones might have the same effect?). I have a whole new sympathy for babies with reflux, poor little things.

pippanippa · 05/07/2017 12:24

I seem to remember reading that others had had a hormone surge around 20 weeks - can any of you tell me how long it lasted for you if so? I seem to be getting into a pattern of the bad days being spiralling quite badly - weirdly, much worse than before 12 weeks. I seem to be at the beginning of another patch like last week, as again, nothing is staying down so far. Will do my best to have sips etc, and am seeing Dr anyway later this week, but am confused about why it should be worse now?!

DeadDoorpost · 05/07/2017 12:58

Pippa seeing as we're as far along as each other im glad im not thr only one having a surge right now. Last night was pretty bad for me but I thankfully didn't vomit I just took another tablet and hoped for the best. I did have some rather bad stomach pains that I've not had before and worried that something had happened to the baby until later in the evening when I felt it moving a fair bit so that helped ease me. Maybe it's nerves or adrenaline at the idea of having the second scan? I don't know.
oklahoma are you finding out what you're having? Good luck with your scan!

I'm going to add my vote for peppers as the worst thing to vomit back up. I honestly cannot touch them at all right now. I've almost thrown up at the thought of them before...

Natsku · 05/07/2017 13:05

When I was pregnant with DD I used to rank foods on a scale of how bad to throw up they were - pasta with green pesto and cheese was horrid and I've never eaten it since whereas nachos from a crappy pub in London actually tasted better on the way back up than they did going down!

Going to A&E, its the only way to see a GP at this short notice. Called and they told me to come straight in.

DeadDoorpost · 05/07/2017 14:07

Hope they sort you out, Natsku

I've just tried eating cereal (my go-to food if feeling sick) and I'm not feeling the best. Great. Just what I need the day before my scan. Last scan I threw up the whole day while on tablets (lost 4 lbs that day) and was so bad the day after as well. I don't want a repeat.

I do have the train tickets though to be able to go to Kent to see family in August though so that's one upside. (not travelling in a car or coach hell no, i'd be so sick)

Natsku · 05/07/2017 14:34

Train is definitely the way to go. If it wasn't so expensive I'd take the night train up to lapland instead of going in the car.

Just lying around waiting to see if I need a drip or not and the doctor is going to try a different medicine.

Hollyhop17 · 05/07/2017 15:00

Pippa and Dead my surge kicked in around 23 weeks and I am sad to say was much worse second time round. However, I wasnt as bad as you ladies during the first trimester. Only lost 6 pounds initially, only in once for dehydration etc. I would say it was at its worst until 30ish weeks. But as you know I'm still suffering. But it is more 'manageable now' and I am able to get oit and about. Lucinda, correct me if I'm wrong bit I think my case is a bit odd and it doesnt tend to come back worse? Its only after the surge, for example, I was deemed 'ill enough' for ondansetron. Fat lot of good it ended up doing me!

I hope it passes quickly for you both and isnt a return to the dark days of the first trimester..

beanhunter · 05/07/2017 17:26

Sadly the 14 hrs was speaking too soon. Though number of episodes decreased with the cyclizine but still can't keep food down. Better with squash today. Oh well. I was on a diet before this....

Natsku · 05/07/2017 18:44

Oh dear bean

Doctor has prescribed primperan now

Melleebacca · 05/07/2017 21:20

Holly - good luck for tomorrow. Look forward to hearing how amazing you feel.

Oklahoma - I have cream and it's helping, but it's very slow going. Just very over pregnancy and all its complications.

Thanks for all the comments you lovely people, just too sick and tired to write back to everyone. I've got an absolute max of 8 weeks till baby is here, and it's hard to see how I will make it through.

TwoDrifters · 05/07/2017 21:26

Holly that is what happened with me! Took all pre op meds, got to the hospital crazily early, all mentally prepared for a section…

As we left home, we were saying "How exciting, the next time we are back here, we'll have our baby!"

All ready to be wheeled down to theatre, and they scanned to check baby was still in breech position. Nope! He'd turned. So they said "Oh you can go home now."

By this point I was just wanting it over so said since I was there and ready, could we not just do the section. They all looked shocked and said "But why would you want a section if you don't actually need one?!"

They completely talked me out of it and I went home. So fed up. We walked back in without our baby and felt so deflated.

When he ended up being 2 weeks late, I was finally induced and due to his heart rate continuously dipping, I was sent for an emergency section. So typical. I just wish we'd had the calm planned one on my due date!

None of the "negatives" that they'd used to put me off, were actually that big a deal. Yes you have reduced movement for a while but it's not that long, nor is it all that painful.

So if you can go for it, I would! Hope all goes well. So exciting! This time tomorrow you could have your Hollyhopling!

Hollyhop17 · 05/07/2017 21:32

Thanks Two. My perinatal team have updated my care plan to support a section tomorrow regardless of position. I think I am going to be quite forceful and basically refuse to leave without one. I am feeling better about my chances now I have the support of other professionals.

Will try to update you all tomorrow if I can.

Oklahoma, everything ok with scan?

Mellee, thinking of you.
