I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi ladies - can I join?

I was sick until 26 weeks with my first child and now I'm in week 11 of pregnancy 2. I'm on my second day off work and wondering where to go from here - the doctor wouldn't give me medication last time around but I wonder in retrospect whether I should have been more forceful about it. I was definitely dehydrated last time and had days where I couldn't keep ice lollies down. This time around I thought I would get away with less vomiting but the last few days are getting tough again. I've never been formally diagnosed with HG and I've never been hospitalised so I guess I'm lucky in that respect but I'm so frustrated that there isn't more support from doctors as it is so debilitating! Do I really have to wait until I potentially need a drip before medical staff offer help? I'd rather prevent it from getting that far. Right now lying very still in bed trying not to think about food :(

DDpost... Mine was the same at 12w. I ended up getting rebooked to the next week, then he or she was sleeping again so I got sent a long walk for fizzy juice and sweets (just what you want when you're fighting sickness) Only after that did they wake up... But only slightly.

Sleepy like Mum I guess 😂

OnNaturesCourse · 29/06/2017 13:28

Thinking of you today Holly. Flowers

OnNaturesCourse · 29/06/2017 13:30

Purple... Definitely go pester the GPs now especially if your already feeling it. It can be horrific and you want to enjoy your pregnancy as much as possible. Big hugs zxx

Thingy... Awww look, I love scan pictures! Question was baby active or quite sleepy? Mine is always sleepy, wondering if my mood etc effects it xx

Lemondrop99 · 29/06/2017 13:54

Another fast moving day on this thread!

Purple, just go and push your GP for treatment. You don't have to technically have "HG" to be suffering greatly. Severe vomiting and nausea is awful, and HG is a bit of a sliding scale. You should be able to at least get some cyclizine out of the GP without too much hassle. Let us know how you get on

Cute scan pic Thingy! Yes it's hard to feel too excited when you feel like rubbish, but hopefully you'll get a bit of relief at the end of the first trimester. Even if they symptoms stay, most people get a bit of easing off by 16 weeks or so.

Love the Dino toy Door! You're very talented

How are you feeling now Holly? I don't think you were being unreasonable at all, empty stomachs can make nausea far worse. Did you go through with the turn?

Oklahoma · 29/06/2017 14:09

Yay for the good scan but sorry you're feeling so rubbish.

Holly asking someone with HG to have an empty stomach that long violates human rights. I would be throwing up bile left right and centre, you poor thing.

Purple definitely ask for / demand meds. Take the NICE guidance with you (someone better with technology than me will put a link up).

19+1 is fine for a scan I thought they just needed to be after 18 weeks.

purpleelephant28 · 29/06/2017 14:57

Oklahoma, OnNatures, Lemondrop - thank you. I've just read the guidelines. I will give the doctors a ring tomorrow and be a little more insistent than last time! :)

Lemondrop99 · 29/06/2017 14:59

Purple, two good resources if you're struggling with your GP

This website and helpline is brilliant
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you haven't seen these guidelines, also worth knowing about
www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/guidelines/green-top-guidelines/gtg69-hyperemesis.pdf

Good luck!

pippanippa · 29/06/2017 16:20

purple welcome! Sorry to hear you're suffering, I know what you mean, it's second time round here too. I am on the first-line medication, but they won't do anything else until hospitalisation which I have thankfully always avoided..so in a bit of a limbo grey area between morning sickness and HG. Hope your chat with the GP goes well.

Holly how did it go? I saw a video of them turning a baby once, it was amazing - I hope it works for you!

Here the rubbish day continues. Food is still stubbornly refusing to stay down, at least fluids don't seem to be a problem, as long as I lie still enough. Oh well, tomorrow will be better I'm sure. Hope everyone else is well today!

Thingymaboob · 29/06/2017 16:54

@OnNaturesCourse
Baby was very very active. Moving around a lot.

Hollyhop17 · 29/06/2017 17:27

Thanks for your well wishes today. Turn was traumatic and didnt work and I was too distressed to try again. So c section it is. I'm going in next Thursday.

I am feeling very nauseous today. A combination of not eating much and my tummy being so sore from the attempted turn.

All in all, not in the best frame of mind and currently sat in a taxi on the way to Central to see the Harry Potter play. If I didnt feel like I was letting my best friend down I would be staying at home. Been looking forward to this for ages but feels like the last thing I want to do Sad

Sorry for being so self indulgent today, I promise to be a better support for others tomorrow.

Lules · 29/06/2017 17:33

Oh Holly I'm sorry. But a c section really isn't the end of the world. I've had one and it was fine. Calm, fairly quick, no pain which is more than I can say for the 45 hours of labour before it happened. And you may have ended up with one anyway even if it had worked.

weasledee · 29/06/2017 17:37

Oh sorry holly you had such a bad day! I second what Lules said, my c-section was waaaaaaay better than the forceps I had I can assure you :)

Lemondrop99 · 29/06/2017 17:38

Ah Holly Sad I know it's very personal preference and I know you didn't want it, but I've heard that a planned C section can be a very calming experience. At least you can mentally prepare yourself and only ONE week to go! Then hopefully that'll HG gone forever! And of course, your little boy finally in your arms. You've been amazing through everything, you'll smash this last hurdle. I really hope you enjoy Cursed Child. Hopefully when you go in, you can immerse yourself in that and forget everything else for a few hours.

pippanippa · 29/06/2017 17:43

Oh Holly sorry about the rubbish day and failed turn. Like others have said, hopefully having a designated eviction date will be of some help, 1 week to go, a matter of only hours now!!! Ooh and Thingy I missed your post earlier, good news that the scan went well Smile!

Mammabear13 · 29/06/2017 18:18

Well done for making it through the turn attempt Holly they are not pleasant experiences; sorry it wasn't successful Flowers

I hope you are able to enjoy CC tonight in spite of the effort to go out and can have a chilled day tomorrow

OnNaturesCourse · 29/06/2017 18:22

Sorry to hear that Holly. Having never heard of being able to turn a baby I'm off to investigate it but I can't imagine it would be pleasant at all.

I'm very jealous of anyone who has seen the cursed child, major harry potter fan girl. Xx

Melleebacca · 29/06/2017 19:02

OnNature - I was impatient with my anomaly scan and had it at 19+2. If they can't get all the measurements then, they will reschedule for around 23w anyways.
My hubby is also useless at finishing projects, but mostly due to him being a perfectionist. Still don't have a splashback for the oven from when I was pregnant with DD and got the kitchen replaced!

Purple - my friend doesn't have HG, but was give mild meds to help keep the nausea at bay. Just ask.

Deaddoor - gorgeous Dino!

Holly - you poor thing. I can't imagine the pain of them trying to turn baby. There's enough pain with baby deciding to stretch. I hope you relax about the c section and start planning your post HG meals. Hope you had a good night out.

Thingy - fabulous scan photo. An active baby is fun.

Feeling a bit better here. Went to bed really early and got a decent amount of sleep. Left hubby to do everything with DD. Very very glad it's Friday.

purpleelephant28 · 29/06/2017 19:22

I spoke to the doctor on the phone this afternoon and it worked, I pick up a prescription tomorrow! Thanks for giving me the push I needed.

Holly - the turning baby sounds horrible, I'm sure the C-Section will be a breeze in comparison!

Natsku · 29/06/2017 19:33

Can I join? Not sure I have HG but its been quite bad the last few days (nearly 10 weeks) that the doctor sent me to A&E today for a drip and prescribed Doxylamine and vit B6.

Had horrible sickness almost the entire pregnancy with DD (and no help or sympathy from the midwives or doctors except for the three weeks I was in hospital) so worried this will be the same.

Oklahoma · 29/06/2017 21:29

Welcome Natsku of course you can join us (although none of us want to be here!). The pregnancy sickness to HG scale is very much a continuous line rather than specifically one or the other and feeling sick sucks whatever the reason. Hopefully the drop will make you feel better. Have they given you ondansetron too? I'm also on my second pregnancy and was sick the whole way through with my first. Everyone on here is going through the same as you and we are a lovely supportive bunch.

Oklahoma · 29/06/2017 21:30

My moan of the day. I am so fed up with water tasting foul. It's water. How can it taste so awful?!

DeadDoorpost · 29/06/2017 21:43

oaklahoma water actually has a mix of minerals in it from the rocks in the ground so it makes sense for the taste to change during pregnancy. Science lesson for the day.

As for my moan I almost just threw up dinner but managed not to. Mainly coz I sat weirdly and my drink hadn't fully gone down. Ah well.
