Pregnant at 45, help please?

Found out in Friday that I'm 5 weeks pregnant, so 5 weeks and 3 days today. I'm 45! Thought I was menopausal! My OH has no children so he is absolutely over the moon, after a weekend of just feeling so happy and elated really I'm absolutely panicking today because I've had some mucus loss and cramping and I desperately want this baby. Anyone else had a similar experience? Anyone had a baby in their 40's? I have 3 grown up sons from a previous relationship. I know I'm extremely lucky to be pregnant at all but I want to hold on to this with every bit of me, help please ladies?

I had ds at 43. . I have been ttc again at 45 but no luck. Wishing all goes well for you op.

I'm in a similar position and there's little you can do bar hope. It does happen, having a successful pregnancy at 45 is totally possible, but equally the stats are a high risk of miscarriage.

I am burying my head in the sand and if I'm still looking pregnant at 10 weeks I will ring the midwife re. booking in. I will also have the Harmony test done if they find a heart beat.

I don't normally even click let alone comment on pegnancy threads as I am glad to have that side of it done and dusted but Op I am so excited for you and your other half. I am hoping with everything I have that you have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Hi OP. I really hope it works out for you. FWIW I get an awful lot of cramping in early pregnancy - far worse than period pains

I'm in my 40s with a baby. Felt very crappy at the beginning of pregnancy but things got much better in second trimester and everything went smoothly from then on. Remember, even with increased risks of miscarriage, the odds are still stacked in your favour. Good luck x

BTW I guess you guys all feel the same but I feel like I went to sleep one night when I was 21 and woke up the following morning as a 45 year old

my sister had a baby at 46 after several miscarriages. She has a lovely healthy daughter now.

Our daughter is 8 weeks old, I'm 42 next month.
I had a very healthy pregnancy although they advised I take aspirin due to pre eclampsia risks.

The birth was more traumatic but mainly because they advised induction at term due to age. The induction failed so I had an emcs, recovery from that has been fine.

Yes. Had cramping and spotting so didn't really expect the pregnancy to stick.
Also yes to wondering where the years have gone. Constantly get a shock when I look in the mirror

Congrats on your pregnancy!

I had my DS at 42, felt very tired until around 18 weeks, then sailed through the rest of my pregnancy. I was induced and had a normal delivery.

I am pregnant again at 44, things are going well so far, I had the harmony test at 10 weeks which confirmed low risk and has allowed me to relax a little. I did have a lot of period pain in the first few weeks, so much so that I wore a pad just in case I started bleeding.

I had hcg blood tests 48 hrs apart and a few early scan to see how things were progressing.

Congratulations OP........Sounds like a lovely surprise

@donnalynne its a scan to confirm a viable pregnancy and a blood test which extracts fetal DNA to look for trisomies which are chromosomal problems. Combined with the scan it is a more certain (but not 100%) test compared to the 12 week NHS blood tests. My age related risk at 44 is 1:27 but the harmony reduced that to 1:10,000.

Congratulations! There's a pregnancy thread for the over 40's somewhere on this site - probably in the pregnancy section. You could join them and they'd be able to give more advice. Several have graduated with babies recently :)
