Found out in Friday that I'm 5 weeks pregnant, so 5 weeks and 3 days today. I'm 45! Thought I was menopausal! My OH has no children so he is absolutely over the moon, after a weekend of just feeling so happy and elated really I'm absolutely panicking today because I've had some mucus loss and cramping and I desperately want this baby. Anyone else had a similar experience? Anyone had a baby in their 40's? I have 3 grown up sons from a previous relationship. I know I'm extremely lucky to be pregnant at all but I want to hold on to this with every bit of me, help please ladies?

Thank you @Ekphrasis I found that thread shortly after I started this one and I've been chatting to some lovely people there too xx

Great! I hope to be there soon. I was earlier this year but had a mc at Easter.

perfectpanda · 12/06/2017 20:15

Best of luck donna. I'm 44 with an unplanned pregnancy and booked for induction later this week..... up to now (week 39) this pregnancy has been physically better than my pregnancies in my 30s and apart from aspirin and an early induction, the medical staff haven't really taken much extra notice of me! Also had harmony test at 12 weeks. If you're in London you can get this as part of the nhs care in some hospitals.

DonnaLynne · 12/06/2017 20:25

That's such a lovely thing to hear @perfectpanda almost everything I've read so far has been negative towards older mum's and basically a 60% chance of miscarriage, I'm hoping that because my pregnancy, like yours is naturally conceived I have a better chance. I will make an appointment with my doctor soon and talk about a harmony test, I live in South Wales so probably will have to travel, I don't mind though. Good luck for your delivery, would you please come back on here and let me know how it went and your new baby? Xx

Of course! I'm currently bouncing on the ball, drinking raspberry leaf tea and reflecting on how it feels so long ago that I was in the shocked/happy/anxious first trimester. I've certainly heard lots of other positive stories along the way so really hope we can add to those!

DonnaLynne · 12/06/2017 20:36

I have a very good "get the baby moving" trick which has worked extremely well with my three babies, with my first son I got chased by a bee and this brought on labour so for my second son, on my due date, I ran around the room and sure enough I went into labour, did it again with my third son and out he popped, give it a go maybe? Ha, good tip! Might save it for the morning so I can get one last nights sleep in... will certainly try it when they come at me with pessaries, knitting needles and hormone drips!

DonnaLynne · 12/06/2017 21:04

Yep definitely try it, I'm excited for you Smile

Hi their donnalynne, firstly I want to congratulate you with your wonderful news!! 🍼 well if this helps I'm more or less in the same position, I'm 47 now and trying for my 4th child.. my 3 are all grown up but me and my hubby want this so much.. I do have an under active thyroid so me hormones are all to pot grr... also since taking sevenseas (trying for a baby) I'm now 6 days late. My last period was on the 12/05/17 but I keep getting negative home tests 😔 xx

user1495915742 · 13/06/2017 06:57

No, mid 40s myself and have given up hope (haven't managed to have one!).

Must agree with your comment that I feel like I fell asleep when I was 21 and have woken up as a 45 year old woman. Grin

Very best of luck to you! Flowers

sandgrown · 13/06/2017 07:08

Congratulations. I had youngest DS at 45 after a 21 year gap. Fine through pregnancy. I had an amnio at about 17 weeks. I had a bit of high blood pressure at the end so DS was induced but after 5 attempts he was still hanging on so I had a c section.DS is a teenager now but he has kept us young!

DonnaLynne · 13/06/2017 07:31

Hi @Deborah70 thank you! I'm over the moon but still very worried when you read all the information that says I'm 60% likely to miscarry, I do feel very very lucky, my OH is the happiest I've ever seen him too SmileI really hope you succeed in getting pregnant, I don't really have any tips other than I've been trying to eat as healthy as possible over the last few months and have also been taking supplements and a course of probiotic tablets to try and sort out my lady bits after years of UTI's, don't know if that helpedHmmlots and lots of luck to you xx

Hi @user1495915742 thank you Smiledon't give up hope, I'm wishing you lots of luck, isn't it horrible how your mind is still so young but your body tells you you're middle aged, I keep thinking to myself "why am I so worried, I'm still a young woman"Hmmmy nan passed away this year and she would never believe it when we would congratulate her on her longevity, she was 97, her mum had her when she was 48! So don't give up hope xx

Op planning to wait until 10 weeks to book appointment, I wouldn't wait! Book in now or you might not get an appointment for the crucial 12 weeks scan. Where I live (London) appointment book up fast so best to let them know as soon as you find out.

RapunzelsRealMom · 13/06/2017 07:40

I was pregnant at 42. I didn't allow myself to get too excited and kept expecting the worst.

I had healthy twins who are amazing! Remember multiples are more likely Grin

Stay healthy, look after yourself and chill out

DonnaLynne · 13/06/2017 07:40

Hi @sandgrown my eldest DS is 21, my middle 18 and my youngest 16 so there will be quite an age gap, I've told them all and after a few "oh my god you lying aren't you" comments (I do like to prank them a lot Wink) they are excited to think of a new baby to love xx

Hi @Mamabear12 I love your username Grinyep I'm going to ring the doc this morning, I live in Llanelli which is in South Wales so I won't have the London problems other than services aren't so great here, thanks for your advice xx

Hi Donna

I had a successful last pregnancy at 45, after multiple pregnancy loss in earlier years. I am also in South Wales and would point you in the direction of Bryan Beattie at Innermost Secrets on the outskirts of Cardiff. Older pregnancy is such a stressful time and he was just brilliant. I took every test I could; getting good results and his kind support just made me feel that little bit better and confident at such a shaky time.

DS is here and brilliant, growing up into the big boy I never thought I'd have. I won't say don't stress, because you will, but all the luck in the world for the best of outcomes!

Teabagtits · 13/06/2017 08:05

Congratulations! I'm 40something and due next week!

There is a support thread in antenatal, I think, for women pregnant over 40. I'm on my phone so can't get link. There are loads of us these days.

You'll have extra scans and more checks than a yoof would get but if everything is going fine then it'll just be like normal. Anxiety is probably the worst part so step away from Google unless you add successes to your word search.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/06/2017 08:42

Was 43 when got preg tho took 10yrs ttc and 5 private mc
