I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Pippa, I've had the cramps and backache too plus I'm completely exhausted. Like physically can't get out of bed most days. I'm trying to be positive and say it's baby growing and a little bit of PGP in my back. Do hope it settles for you soon. Xxx

OnNaturesCourse · 08/06/2017 08:56

Holly, those sessions are the worst. It's like the evil has possessed your body and your just along for the ride! Hope you're better soon xx

Melleebacca · 08/06/2017 09:14

Pippa - my pregnancies have been almost identical, except the vomiting stopping earlier this time around, and exhaustion being much more prevalent (could be whenever I sit down DD asks for something). Hopefully you're just going through the same thing, and the second time is just fractionally easier HG wise.

Lemon - trying to only have an ondansetron every second day at the moment, until I run out in a couple of weeks. Alternating it with the iron pills and skulling lactulose to help with constipation. I'm probably one of the few people looking forward to pooping after giving birth. At least then the drugs and the baby won't be there making an obstacle course.

Holly - sorry to hear about the crap day. Did your NCT class have any other HG sufferers? There was one in mine, and we bonded, although she had weaker drugs and her HG lifted earlier, so I was a little jelly.

Waves to all. Looking forward to resting on the weekend!

Hollyhop17 · 08/06/2017 09:37

Sadly not Mellee. As usual I had to explain to everyone what HG was. To be fair, people have been kind though so thats been nice.

Just had an infuriating conversation with an Aunt who rung me out of the blue. 'Sickness eases off after the first 12 weeks so you shouldnt be suffering anymore'.

Great, thanks for your medical insight Angry

flossyfloss · 08/06/2017 11:20

Holly I need your advice Sad I am suffering with constipation because of the ondansetron - I'm currently in so much pain Sad I've got some glycerin suppositories and I've tried one this morning but it hasn't worked Sad I'm so worried about causing my uterus to contract, the pain is getting really bad and the urge to go is constant Blush sorry this is tmi but I know you suffered terribly much worse and wondered if you could give me any advice, currently a hot bath is the only thing giving me pain relief

OnNaturesCourse · 08/06/2017 11:55

I need the advice too, on the rare occasion I do go... It hurts.

I used to be on liquid medication Dulcolax, and was told it was safe to continue in small regular doses throughout pregnancy however the smell and taste actually made me sick for the first time in pregnancy. I tried to stick with it but as my sickness got worse I built up a fear with it.

I'm now back to going every 5-6 days if I'm lucky

I've tried the tablet form, and they don't work. Latulose only works once things are regular so is off the list at the moment too.

I've tried super high fiber diets but it sets off my IBS which in turn triggers the sickness. On the other hand, the constipation also triggers IBS and last night I woke with gas that bad in my stomach under my ribs so bad I couldn't take a deep breath or move without horrid pain. I had to pant through it until it eventually moved.

Help!?

flossyfloss · 08/06/2017 12:05

Onenature I feel your pain Sad I had to use a second glycerin suppository and that has finally done the trick but I feel so delicate now and like I've ran a marathon or something Confused I'm wiped out!

I was drinking orange juice two/three days ago and I noticed I was going as normal without pain but I ran out. I'm going to get some more and try and up my fibre intake. Although to be honest I'm living off brown seeded bread at the moment. This is tmi but I don't think my problem is actually the urge to go it's more that once "it" makes its way to my bottom it's too hard to come out Confused

I can't believe I've just wrote all that Blush pregnancy hey?! Xx

OnNaturesCourse · 08/06/2017 12:10

Yes, I totally get get.

Like it's hitting a brick wall when the urge happens.

Mustang27 · 08/06/2017 12:26

Can't offer a solution only that I totally get.

Hollyhop17 · 08/06/2017 13:33

Hi flossy and and On. Really sorry you are suffering so much, I know only too well how painful it is and how truly miserable it makes you feel.

I dont think my advice is going to be thay helpful, I found I had to stop taking ondansetron. I have been very regular since. However, I probably have a milder case than you both, so appreciate that might not be an option. I am still sick on just promethezine, but once a day, every other day. The nausea is still pretty horrific.

In terms of medicine, I can tell you that the suppositories are completely safe and I took them further along than you guys. If it makes you feel better, I also had 2 enemas and 3 different types of suppositories. Glycerin was the first, but not strong enough so I was moved on.

In my personal, non medical of course, opinion there is little to no chance of the glycerin causing your uterus to contract. I had to take them early on around 8ish weeks and then again in the 3rd trimester when I was in hospital.

If you cant stop taking ondansetron, it is probably your best bet.

Sorry to not be more helpful. Big hugs to you both.

Lemondrop99 · 08/06/2017 14:04

It's miserable, isn't it? I've been ok the last week or so, but it still hurts like hell when I go because I'm still sore from months or straining.

I took dulcolax a few times. It worked once but not the rest.

I'm afraid latex gloves and manual removal was the only thing that really reliably works for me for the last four months. Not nice but prevents straining and better than ending up in hospital. Depends how desperate you are Confused

FlapAttack88 · 08/06/2017 14:23

Just wanted to let you all know my local teachers union who are doing a charity run have chosen to support a hyperemesis charity to raise funds and awareness! I am an officer for the union so was really touched :)

I am back at work and had a bit if a sickness relapse. Plus turned away from.my whooping cough vaccine as cough still bad they say.. Dr checking out next week :(

So sad and sorry to see you all having such a tough time. Especially with constipation side effects on top if the vomiting. .. that's just cruel mother nature. Thinking of you all xx

LucindaE · 08/06/2017 16:28

Just got the PC back form Mario the Computer Man.
isith Sorry you were admitted, but I am glad it made you feel a lot better. Did you say 4+ ketones- that's a lot? I am glad you're eating and I do so hope they prescribe Ondansetron. I know the expense has gone down in the last few years, but compared to other drugs it's still expensive.
Oddsocks So glad you got those ketones down.
Melleebacca That is so nice and supportive of your union! Your comments on maternal guilt and Hyperemesis are so wise that it will help prepare the LO's for sharing their mother.

Hollyhop Sorry about protracted NCT vomiting session. Great advice about suppositories. Sorry about that Aunt's Annoying Advice.
She has informed you that you are clearly breaking the rules and must snap out of it!
Sorry to hear that Lemondrop OnNature'sCourse Melleebacca and others have been suffering horribly from constipation. can'tdothisagain I wish I could reassure you about doses of B6 - not being medically qualfied, I can't - but I see there are various studies quoted online which mention consistently higher doses have not been associated with any malformations. You would think your GP would give you some idea.
pippasnippa I am glad you are a bit better.
flossyfloss That's interesting about orange juice. You don't find it too acid?

Just had my repeat anomoly scan and have to go back for a consultant on Monday as the heart is slightly enlarged :( :( :( they said it may be fine but I am so worried and sad. Had finally started letting myself be excited about baby after hg easing up a little last few weeks and now I feel awful and don't really know what to do with myself between now and then :(

Thingymaboob · 08/06/2017 17:39

@FlapAttack88 it might well be fine but I know I'd worry too! When are you having another scan?

Lemondrop99 · 08/06/2017 17:47

Mother Hen is stuck on repeat Grin

Flap, I'm sorry to hear that, it must be worrying for you. It's a good thing they're going to carry out more checks, and hopefully it'll turn out to be nothing to worry about at all. Of course, you're naturally going to worry between now and Monday. Wish I could say something that will help Sad Will be thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed.

Ergh, I feel rubbish this afternoon. Deciding whether to cave in and take an ondansetron or not. Should have a shower and get myself off to choir, I know I could use the light relief after a couple of relentless days at work, but just don't know if I have the energy.

Thingymaboob · 08/06/2017 17:48

HG update- had a booking appt with midwife who weighed me and I've lost 12 lb in 4 weeks. No ketones though. Spoke to GP who was astonished I had been prescribed ondansetron and made me feel awful about it. I explained to her I tried calling GP weeks ago but they didn't call back then I went away did weekend for wedding and a GP & midwife at wedding saw I was suffering badly and wrote me a private prescription. My GP said "highly irregular" to which I replied "what the fuck was I supposed to do? I tried calling!" She looked at the log, I was on the list but not called back and she was apologetic. I really hate GPs

FlapAttack88 · 08/06/2017 17:51

Thank you. Yes another scan on Monday with the specialist consultant. Not got a time yet but they're calling tomorrow to let me know

Thingymaboob · 08/06/2017 18:06

@FlapAttack88 I wish you all the best. These little babies are resilient things and foetal medicine is incredible, if in fact it even comes to it! I'll be thinking of you. Let us know how you get on x

LucindaE · 08/06/2017 18:14

FlapAttack That is really awful for you. Very likely it is just a false alarm, as they often seem to get these measurements wrong (I don't know why), but that's horrible being stressed and having to wait. Cyber hugs.

FlapAttack88 · 08/06/2017 18:21

Thank you all. In a sad sorry place of wanting to tell people so I can talk about I but also not wanting anyone to know so is a relief to have this support network just as a place to open up a little. I really hope and pray it's nothing. My brother had a hole in his heart when born so the heart being looked at was always something I was Nervous about already. They didn't see any holes though and I am probably besy just not thinking about it til I get to see the consultant :(

Thingymaboob that GP needs a kick up the butt. Glad they apologised to you at least but that shouldn't have happened.

Have seen the fb biscuit ad that makes me think of all.of you fondly .. will upload a photo x

FlapAttack I had a huge hole in my heart without knowing about it - loved athletics, did martial arts, and only found out about it when they were doing migraine research and a possible connection with holes in the heart and blood supply. They filled it in with an operation using a thing like a minor pararchute. So, I don't think holes in the heart need be that drastic.
