I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

@DeadDoorpost
Oh dear. Are you on max dose?

DeadDoorpost · 07/06/2017 12:52

@Thingymaboob no thankfully so i can at least double it rn but if I'm gonna keep being sick while on it then it's definitely a bad sign. It's been going so well for the last 3-4 weeks.

YoureNotASausage · 07/06/2017 12:55

I took the cyclizine an he ago. I think he has taken the edge off, feel a bit spacey when I'm walking though.

flossyfloss · 07/06/2017 13:38

Yourenotasausage I use my at night as a sleeping pill because it just sedates me - if you can get past the drowsiness it might help with the vomiting

Lemondrop99 · 07/06/2017 13:39

Dead, ondansetron helped reduce my symptoms but it never got rid of them entirely. I still have waves where it comes and goes, and having a few bad days is common for me. I'm definitely still vomiting on it, albeit much reduced from what it was. Perhaps you're just having a hormone surge and it'll settle down again in a few days? Don't despair that it's stopping working altogether as it might not be.

Oddsocksforeveryone · 07/06/2017 13:50

Hello ladies. I have had breakfast and lunch and at least 6 cups of juice (squash) today but am still measuring off the charts dehydrated and purple for ketones. I've not been sick for days (promethazine 3x daily). I have a 19 week scan in 2 hours, are they likely to keep me in for fluids if I still test the same?

Hyperemesis Support
HaichM · 07/06/2017 14:41

Oddsocks: it's probably just taking a bit of time to work through your system. 6 cups sounds ace and not dehydrated to me. I didn't see anyone apart from the sonographer at my 20 week appt so I doubt you'll even be asked. My ketones haven't been checked since I was in hosp (except by me at the beg)

flossyfloss · 07/06/2017 14:54

Has anyone tried electrolyte tablets?

OnNaturesCourse · 07/06/2017 16:01

Ladies when should I get my MATB1 form? Work needs it to work out my due pay before redundancy but I'm not 20weeks until after I'm due to leave work... I do have a midwife appointment at 18 and a bit weeks though...

HaichM · 07/06/2017 16:16

On: I got mine at my 24 week midwife appt so I'd ask when you next see them. Mine just had a pad of them with them that they filled out.

Warbeck: forgot to say, Ive been sick twice, almost 3 times, since hitting 30 weeks and am hoping it's not the start of something so you have my sympathies. I hope it was just a one off for you

Lemondrop99 · 07/06/2017 16:57

I got my Mat1B form at my 20 week scan. I don't think you generally get given them before 20 weeks. You might want to talk with your midwife and explain the situation to see if you can get one earlier.

OnNaturesCourse · 07/06/2017 17:38

My scan isn't getting done until I'm 21+ weeks so that's a bit rubbish. I'll talk to them tho, thanks

LucindaE · 07/06/2017 18:11

Welcome to isith. You have had great advice already. As you are a veteran, Mother Hen doesn't need to say 'have you got kesostix? and
do you find the juice of tinned fruit, full sugar coke and ice lollies etc any good? ' You could try ringing 024 7638 2020 Pregnancy Sickness Support for them to ring you back with advice about obtaining meds if the doctor isn't sympathetic.
Oh dear, that reminds me that I gave that number the wrong way to
ICan' the other day. We had another I Can't only two years ago - but the doctors told her they couldn't answer for her life if she went for it again (don't worry, everyone, she had other serious health problems), so it's not you, but I keep on nearly typing her full user name!
OddSocks Oh dear, that looks bad! I hope the liquids make a big difference, but maybe they will keep you in anyway to be on the safe side, unfortunately. I know that later on there's all the complications of ketones measuring starvation as well as dehydration.
Oklahoma How are things? Has the bleeding stopped?
You'reNotASausage I am so glad he prescribed meds.
On staying on metaclopramide : Did mrsB87 ask this? It seems doctors disagree about this. Some don't mind leaving women on it, others don't like it. It seems to be to do with the side effect of twitching that a minority of women taking it develop (it doesn't affect the baby). But I'm not medically qualified, and it might be an idea to ask your doctor what s/he thinks.
Thingymaboob I am so sorry your work colleagues are unsympathetic.
Lemondrop It must be awful going through a redundancy. I think Hollyhop may be too?
OnNature'sCourse What a horrible attitude that woman had. I'm outraged at the condescending ignorance - but I so often am...
HaichM Great advice from you and others. You have been very stoic going into work with all those awful symptoms, even if the sickness did tail off.
DeadDoorPost Can you add to the Ondansetron, do you think?
Sorry, remind me of you are on any other meds.
presh1234 Much sympathy. Cyber hugs always on offer to those feeling down who wish to accept them.
Hollyhop Congratulations on one good day.
I'm a bit late, but I do so agree with weasledee that mrsb87 should not have taken out her vacuum cleaner.
I have to leave the PC now as it's playing up....Back later.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

flossyfloss Sorry, it was you with the metoclopramide query. As below...

Melleebacca · 07/06/2017 19:29

Flossy - I had electrolyte tabs with DD. I don't know how much they helped. Was better off this time around but think it was mostly helped by pre-emptive meds.
Metachlorpromide can be taken for awhile, but some have twitchy side effects so doctors may only give a short prescription.

Oddsocks - that's a lot of liquid. Takes a few hours to lower ketones. Hope the scan goes well and brings you some happiness.

Deaddoor - pump up the ondansetron dose. It's not a miracle drug as I vomited every day regardless, but it will definitely lower symptoms. If you're in the 9-14w time period, you're going through the worst part and drugs can only help so much.

Haich - waves! Surviving here, a bit exhausted due to flu and whooping cough vaccine this week. Arms have only just stopped aching.

Lemon - I've been prescribed iron tabs to keep me from needing a transfusion after birth (was borderline with DD), which is adding to the ondansetron constipation. I thought you would enjoy the mental image of me trying to poop with DD, teddy and the dog all in the bathroom with me! Lucky hubby manages 20mins of quiet and I'm lucky to get 20secs before the door is opened 😂😂😂

Holly - yay for nursery furniture! cant wait to see pics!

Sorry to all the newcomers. Thread is moving quickly so I've lost track a little. Those we have LOs, I know it's hard, but the silver lining is knowing they are learning how to cope without your full attention before the new baby comes. Watching my DD play independently in her room really reduces the anxiety of how to cope with a newborn breastfeeding for long periods.

Waves to all.

Lemondrop99 · 07/06/2017 20:18

Oh Mellee 😱 If there was a constipation trophy....I think you just won!!! Poor you! I've managed to cut down to one ondansetron a day (and even slipping it on the odd day if I just put up with feeling crap) and it's made a huge difference to my bowels and I really hope it stays that way.

cantdothisagain2017 · 07/06/2017 20:36

Does anyone know what the dose of b6 for nausea is? I'm desperate. Was taking 50 mg but tried 100mg today and I think it helped a bit. Wondering if I can go any higher ?

flossyfloss · 07/06/2017 20:51

I thought B6 was a maximum of 50mg - something to do with causing problems at a higher dosage? I'm not sure I'm sure google would know the safe dose for pregnancy

cantdothisagain2017 · 07/06/2017 22:11

Oh no. I took 100mg, hope I haven't done something really wrong i just felt so sick. I'd read varying things that said 50/75/100/200 ?? And of course the gp wouldn't advise

Oddsocksforeveryone · 07/06/2017 22:22

Thank you ladies, managed to hydrate in time to see the consultant at 5. This pregnancy is like some kind of mad science experiment trying to keep all the levels right. Sorry to Bob in and out, with teething 11 month old and 5&7 yr old boys this is a madhouse already.
Everything was fine at the scan, midwife wasn't very happy that I'm opting out of the glucose tolerance test but I'm pretty sure the chances of me keeping the drink down are slim to none so it's pointless.
Has anyone else opted out?

isith · 07/06/2017 22:33

Hi, just about to try to sleep but thought I'd give an update.
GP didn't really have any experience of patients with HG, but bless her got all the guidelines up and read through them etc. She rang obstetrics for help, since I was already on tier two of the drug cascade and had trace ketones. They called me in.
At the hospital, I had +4 ketones. Was given 3L of NaCl&KCl fluids, various vitamins etc, and IV ondansetron (after saying I didn't want to take metaclopromide because I have a history of bad depression). I feel sooo much better, and I have eaten actual food! Magic stuff. Tomorrow I have my first scan (will be 6+4), and hopefully can go home (and vote!). I really hope I get discharged with ondansetron. It's the only thing that's touched the nausea, but I know it's crazy expensive!
You guys all sound great, supporting each other through this horrible thing. I hope I can get to provide some support for another sufferer in turn. Night night xx

OnNaturesCourse · 07/06/2017 22:56

This forum is so hard to keep up with now 🙊

Sad that so many are suffering, nice we've all got each other! waves

Lemondrop99 · 07/06/2017 23:29

I know Nature, I'm struggling to keep up too!

Isith, glad the drop made you feel better and that your GP is listening to you and taking you seriously. Hopefully you'll get ondansetron tomorrow.

Glad your scan went well Odds. When are you due? Sounds like you're only a few weeks behind me.

pippanippa · 08/06/2017 08:25

Sorry, also struggling to keep up here, but really glad the trip to hospital helped isith and commiserations to all those having rubbish days!

I'm confused at the moment as my good run is continuing...I have only been sick twice a day for a few days now. I stopped taking my tablets as an experiment and it hasn't made things worse, and I am much less tired without them. Am delighted and hoping it's the start of that fabled 16 week turnaround which never really happened last time. Trouble is it's coinciding with some cramping, back ache and an upset stomach, which has got me all paranoid, but I have a check-up booked next week with a scan too so hopefully that will put my mind at ease. Just have a nagging sensation something is wrong, it wasn't like this at all last time...!

Hollyhop17 · 08/06/2017 08:52

Glad to hear of a supportive GP for a change.

Pippa, do try and enjoy your good days. I really hope it is easing off for you.

I had a shocker of a day yesterday, furniture delivery was late and courier was so rude. I had to wait in all day in a house with little food. I find being stressed makes the nausea a million times worse Sad.

To top it off had a spectacular vomming session at my nct class. The kind where you literally cant stop being sick. It was like 15 times in a row. UGH. So exhausted by it all. I keep thinking its easing off but the reality is I'm going to suffer until birth.

Hope everyone has a goodish day.
