I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

It was a short lived return to work as the nurse also wpuldnt give me the whooping cough vaccine as my chest and cough still.too bad after 6 weeks.. so got to go for a check up for that on tuesday too!

At least the sickness h's taken a back seat for now as if I still had thay as badly I don't know how I would be coping.

Wishing you all a vomit and nausea free evening as possible xx

Lemondrop99 · 08/06/2017 19:13

For crying out loud Thingy, that makes me mad to read.

Seriously doesn't anyone know what the GPs actually issue is with prescribing ondansetron? I don't understand why it's so controversial when guidelines are happy it's safe. I'm genuinely baffled. Does anyone know the actual reason? Is it just lack of education among GPs and their view it's only a cancer drug?

HaichM · 08/06/2017 20:06

Mellee: hello, sorry to hear about the flu and whooping cough side effects. I thought my cold was bad enough so many sympathies from me.

Lemon: I agree with you. I am sick of hearing of people having trouble getting ondansetron when it seems to be one of the best at stopping vomiting.

Flap: sorry to hear of the continued illness. I really hope that cough clears for you soon. Mine is finally easing. Glad you've not had increased sickness to worry about too. Hope everything goes well with the scan next week

HaichM · 08/06/2017 20:17

Thingy: glad you had no ketones at booking appt and I wouldn't worry about losing 12lbs. Most of us have lost a fair bit and most have gained it again, even if it's only baby and fluids. I lost around 12kgs in first trimester and baby is growing fine. Everyone is now commenting on how well I look now, which is a little disconcerting.

Holly: sorry about the vomiting session but glad the people in your NCT class are supportive and sympathetic.

Flossy and on: I haven't got any advice as I was a bit silly and just left my bowels, even if it was pretty much a week between visits and hard work. Different people have had success with lactulose and suppositories or a combination thereof. I guess it's a bit like the anti-sickness meds - try different things till you find the one or combo and routine etc that works

Mustang27 · 08/06/2017 21:13

Flap!!! Sadwhat a horrible way to spend your weekend, I have everything crossed for Monday for you xxx

Melleebacca · 08/06/2017 21:32

Flossy & On - constipation is a glorious side effect of pregnancy and also ondansetron. Most GPs should prescribe laxatives at the same time as ondansetron. I get relief with licorice and copious amounts of lactulose daily.

Flap - sorry to hear about the concerning scan, hope all ends up well in the end. Have lots of distractions this weekend as the anxiety won't help the HG.

Waves to all those suffering. Will do a longer message when I don't have a toddler climbing on me.

YoureNotASausage · 09/06/2017 06:26

8 weeks today. Thanks for getting me through week 7.

Constipation in pregnancy is a horror! You all have my sympathies.

LucindaE · 09/06/2017 10:23

Sorry for those suffering from constipation. Not sure how many people have tried Lactulose or Senna or that one called Codasyl or some such thing? Sorry, that sounds like, 'Have you tried'. Wink
Hey, licorice, I had forgotten that one. I think it is hard these days to get hold of the real traditional stuff - or so my aunt complains - but if it works, who cares? I actually knew a couple of women on this thread to be brave enough to take Fibregel, which is sickening enough without Hyperemesis. Coconut can be good, but there is the issue of its possible return...
Sausage Thank goodness you have a nanny. I simply don't know how people cope, looking after a LO and suffering from this.
On difficulties in obtaining Ondansetron, this has been an ongoing issue for many years; it is partly expense, though the price has come down slightly, I believe, since several companies began to manufacture it, but it is also because, although several large studies have shown no signs of causing problems in babies born to mothers using it, it has not been officially 'cleared' as safe by the WHO or whatever. This is because for obvious reasons they cannot use pregnant women as experimental subjects. I suppose as more and more women are proven to have used it safely, it will eventually be accepted. Cyzlizine is not only cheap, but has been around since the 1980's and is accepted now as proven safe, so I suppose that is why.
Oklhahoma How are things?
Also, Isith.
I hope everyone is coping today. I have never known a thread to be three quarters used up so quickly!

My loo problem has gone to opposite extremes today. Blush So it's another day off sick worrying about being off sick.

Not sure what end of me should be on the loo!

Mustang27 · 09/06/2017 10:57

Oh ons Sad that happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I just sat with my bowl all the time. It was hideous and having the sick to clean up like that always makes me worse. Hugs!

I have stoped the Ondansetron I was in the same boat as others with extreme constipation and laxatives just weren't working not even the glycerine suppositories. Think I'm allergic to dulcolax as within an hour of taking it the cramps are agony so I don't get sleep or any relief. This is my third day of no ondansetron and today I had a completely normal bowel movement, yaaaay tmi. Sorry for everyone still suffering.

On a crappier note sickness is ramped up as I'm back on stemetil and cyclizine but for the moment Iv decided I prefer this as the ondansetron hadn't stopped the sickness just made it a little less.

Sorry that's a really long post to just say iv had a poo Blush

Thingymaboob · 09/06/2017 12:21

@OnNaturesCourse oh dear! I'm with you. TMI but I just vomited violently and some poo came out!

@Mustang27 glad cyclizine is working for you. I got that prescribed yesterday after GP was horrified I was on ondansetron. I am finding cyclizine a big pile of shite. Completely ineffective!

LucindaE · 09/06/2017 12:44

Thingmaboob Never worry about tmi on here! No such thing.
Oh dear, what with OnNature'sCourse and Mustang there is suffering all round.

Thingy... You poor thing. I seem to have been safe for past few hours. I've ventured out a walk just to get out the house. Thankfully I live in country so I'm free to puke should I need to!

pippanippa · 09/06/2017 16:15

Flap sorry to hear about the worrying scan, I hope that the next one puts your mind at ease. Sorry to all of those having bad days too, and facing the ondanestron constipation curse!

Predictably things have returned to the normal vomiting routine here, it was just a lovely blip. Had an awful row with my DH last night Blush, and just feeling awful today. Still, not back to my worst which is good, but I'm just so tire again, I wish I could just go to bed for a week. Perhaps I did too much whilst I was feeling ok, but it's hard not to when our house looks like a tornado's just hit. Seeing Dr on Tuesday which will hopefully be reassuring that there's nothing to worry about regarding the general aches and pains, I know I should be reassured that the sickness is back really. Pregnancy sucks

Mustang27 · 09/06/2017 17:28

Oh no Pippa so sorry you had a row with your oh it really just compounds the sickness when you are stressed.

@Thingymaboob honestly it doesn't work but it does make me tired so I just spend my time to comatose to stress about the level of sickness. I had the worst session in a while today and my wee boy was crying it was that whole body convulsing can't stop stomach emptying and more vomiting. Happens every other day but normally my Mil has my wee one for a couple of hrs a day so he doesn't have to witness it, but it's exhausting her and she is staying home more often now Sad. What set me off...... getting the bin from the bottom of my drive.

LucindaE · 09/06/2017 18:48

pippasnippa Sorry to hear of quarrel with OH - you don't need that stress - and Mustang poor LO being frightened by your puking. LO will forget all about this dismal time and have a sibling - a priceless gitft.

Hi everyone hope you are all as well as can be expected.
I had my scan today I'm 7w1d and the epau were AMAZING about the hyperemisis they have given me ondansetron and metacloprimide so fingers crossed I get some relief as the sickness is dreadful and I was a bit dehydrated any longer without meds and I think I'd have been in real trouble.
I dont know much about metacloprimade has any else had any success with it ?

mrsb87 · 09/06/2017 19:46

cant that's great news, about the scan and the meds!

Sorry to hear about all the constipation, I am luckily not having that issue with Ondansatron, phew.

So so sick of this crazy sense of smell...I can smell the kitchen bin from 2 rooms away, 2!!!! I'm not confined to a small space in the living room with doors closed so I can't smell the kitchen or the hall way. My anxiety about smells is also making me feel pretty awful too.

Oklahoma · 09/06/2017 19:51

Quick check in from me. Bisacodyl suppositories (dulcolax) helped me with the constipation. I found them much gentler on the system that the tablets.
I asked my doctor about ondansetron reluctance and it's a mixture of cost, lack of up to date knowledge and fear of it not being 'signed off'. It's changing though and is being used more and more widely so hopefully in a few years no one will have to survive HG without ondansetron!

Struggling through here. No more bleeding but still have cramps so just have to see what happens I guess. Sickness still here though so I guess that's a good sign?
Hang on in there xx

cantdothisagain2017 · 09/06/2017 21:56

Oh yes the sense of smell......it's causing me huge problems. Anything and everything sets me off. A rubbish bin, someone having a BBQ, dh work shoes, the house smelling stale when we get in, bed sheets not smelling clean (only changed them 3 days ago) so did them again and then the clean smell was overpowering. It's awful. Smells seem to really set my vomiting off instantly and I can't understand why I'm suddenly this bad. That and the taste in my mouth all the time-it's like metallic garlic and butter and horrible

cantdothisagain2017 · 09/06/2017 21:56

*bitter

mrsb87 · 09/06/2017 22:19

That taste in the mouth is driving me up the wall, can't get rid of it whatever I do!

Thingymaboob · 09/06/2017 23:26

Ok so I tried cyclizine but it's crap. Back to ondansetron. Anyone else feel really guilty for taking ondansetron? My GP has really made me feel bad about taking it!

Melleebacca · 10/06/2017 08:08

Ah. The metallic mouth taste. One of the reasons I can't eat sugar. My mouth tastes disgusting afterwards, and then my stomach feels really nauseous. Just had a couple of spoonfuls of custard and now severely regretting it.
