I only started in January. They're quite family orientated though so I'm hoping they'll understand.. X

ew1990 · 02/05/2017 21:19

I only started my job in October, been there for seven months tomorrow, I work for the NHS so fell quite lucky, they give good maternity pay xx

Expecting2017 · 02/05/2017 21:47

I don't even get company maternity. I have to be there a year before getting pregnant. So just statutory for me which is going to be difficult x

ew1990 · 02/05/2017 21:54

Aww no, in the NHS it says everyone gets it regardless on how long you've been there, I think the amount depends on how long when you leave for maternity, but I've booked 2 weeks off in September so gunna go on it after then on the 4th October coz I'm due around the 9 November, Will get more accurate date on Thursday, I would have been there for a year and one day when I go off xx

Expecting2017 · 02/05/2017 21:57

Omg I'm supposed to be due 9 November too!!!! Crazy xx

ew1990 · 02/05/2017 22:02

Ooh it is, I've just had a proper look on website, I only get nhs maternity if I've been there a year at 11 weeks before baby's due, and I wouldn't have, so I get 6 weeks 90% of my wage, then 33 weeks at statutory maternity pay, then 13 weeks unpaid, but I'm planning to take 9 months so I wont be taking the 13 weeks unpaid, I can ask for. Equal payments though so the payments don't drop after 6 weeks if you get what I mean, luckily my OH has quite a good job, I'm well prepared for the sacrifices we are gunna have to make, and my maternity pay goes off your last two wage slips before you go off so I'm gunna ask for nights and weekends for the last 2 months xx

Expecting2017 · 02/05/2017 22:06

Yeah that's the same as i get hun oooo really? Does that include overtime does it say?! X

ew1990 · 02/05/2017 22:13

I think so, it goes off your wageslip so yeah, I might pick up a couple of afternoons too, although i do 37 hours I only do 3 days a week coz they are long shifts, I'll see how I feel when the time comes xx

ew1990 · 02/05/2017 22:13

Do you work for NHS too x

Expecting2017 · 02/05/2017 23:10

No hun I work in the water industry xx

Tinyti83 · 02/05/2017 23:52

Hi ladies just picked up on your conversation, I'm 6+3 weeks gone, due December so a little behind you both @Expecting2017 @ew1990
However I work in payroll and just to confirm to you both that overtime is included in the calculation as they will use your full gross earnings and your right you'll get 90% of your average weekly earnings based on your last 8 weeks wage slips before your leave. Sorry to butt in but thought I'd try and help to clarify a little more. I've just calculated my own pay and am slowly embracing the sacrifices but it will all be worth it. Good luck ladies and keep well xFlowers

ew1990 · 02/05/2017 23:58

@Tinyti83 thank you, gunna have a very busy last 2 month if I can handle it 😂😂

TheLionQueen1 · 02/05/2017 23:59

Statutory maternity is awful!! That's all I am entitled to with my company so I can only take 4 months off (all we can comfortably afford) as I earn more money than my DH, I know I'm going to want more so will find it quite difficult when it gets to it! Im starting to save in the hope it may mean another month or so off!

Name Changed (Sophr!)

TheLionQueen1 · 02/05/2017 23:59

And glad you're feeling better now Ew x

ew1990 · 03/05/2017 00:18

Thank you @TheLionQueen1 x

I work in the NHS and emailed HR with no success. Can you tell me.... I have a yearly travelcard deducted monthly (£150 ish) which expires before I go on mat leave... Will this impact my maternity pay calculations? Also does the pension have an Impact on it?

Sorry I just couldn't seem to get an answer anywhere at work!!

Tinyti83 · 03/05/2017 07:50

Hi @88claire it depends when it is deducted from you, if on your payslips it is shown under allowances, (known as a deductible allowance) then yes it will affect your monthly gross pay but if it is shown on your payslip under your deductions like where your pension will show then this won't affect your gross pay and therefore won't affect the calculation, your pension deduction also won't be included in the calculation however if you have employer contributions, they should stay at the rate agreed throughout your maternity (basically based on your regular salary) but your employee contributions should only be deducted based on your new gross pay-your smp. I hope that helps and makes sense Hun xx

88claire · 03/05/2017 08:33

Tinyti83

Brilliant I will check my payslip thankyou! I think it comes out under the section where the pension does but I'll make sure later. I was thinking of pausing the pension but I think it seems a better idea to keep it going actually.

That's a relief thanks so much!!

Jessiecat27 · 03/05/2017 11:29

Hey ladies! I had my 12 week scan yesterday and they've actually put me at 11+5 (from today) so I feel like I'm going backwards now! We were there for an hour because it's arms and legs were flailing around but it refused to move for the sonographer Grin

ew1990 · 03/05/2017 11:57

@Jessiecat27 that's an amazing picture xxx

Babyblues14 · 03/05/2017 12:49

Had my 20 weeks scan yesterday, baby had its legs firmly crossed but nurse did manage to get a few seconds glimpse and is pretty sure its a girl Grin
Still gonna fork out for a private scan though just to double check

TheLionQueen1 · 03/05/2017 12:53

Jessie that's a fab scan, so clear!!
*
Babyblues* that must be so annoying!! We've got a private scan booked next Saturday at 18+5 weeks so hoping to find out then, if not I have my NHS one a week later (off abroad for a week so wanted to make sure all ok before going!) I can't wait to find out!! Going to be the longest 10 days ever!!

Bubbasmama2017 · 03/05/2017 13:09

I can't find anything in my contract about mat leave and I work for a really small company where the HR manager is not discreet so can't even expect a quiet chat. Got a horrible feeling I will only have stat mat leave too although I've been here for 2.5 years. I know they will ttry and do me over on pay. Got my 12 week scan tomorrow so fingers crossed I can tell them next week

Tinyti83 · 03/05/2017 13:19

@Bubbasmama2017

That's bad that they have nothing in your contract and even worse that your HR manager can't be discreet!!! 😲 Do you not have an employee handbook? as it should be in there. You will be entitled to at least SMP after being there 2.5 years, unless they have a company maternity pay policy where they pay an enhanced rate on top of your SMP. They certainly by law can't not do you out of money owed to you nor can they do you out if your holidays as you will still accrue those while on leave. I hope your scan goes well, is 5 weeks off my 12 week scan and the secrecy is killing me but I do want to wait to announce. Good luck Hun x
