Hope everyone has had a good bank hols and special shout outs to Fraggle and Blue - hope all is well.
Very exciting to get the buggy, Lolly! It's definitely easier to have some stuff already but the shopping is fun
So I promised my C-section list/tips. You're basically eliminating the 'labour' components and going all in on the postnatal ward survival gear. Baby list is all the usual stuff, there are good lists everywhere. You don't need to take any baby feeding paraphernalia as it will all be provided if necessary.
Massive knickers (full briefs, m&s granny pants). If you're normally a size 10, buy a 14-16.
Nightie with drop down nursing straps
(For day 1-2) when you still have catheter in.
Baggy PJ bottoms and vest with drop down nursing straps (day 2-3 and thereafter)
Black yoga pants with wide waistband, one size too big, plus t-shirt (going home outfit)
Flip flops for the ward and shower. As it's summer they can double to go home in too.
Shorts, t-shirt, flip flops, spare undies, toothbrush for your OH. Ward is hot and they will want to strip off.
Toilet bag: tooth stuff, sanex zero or v mild body wash, 2-in-1 shampoo, bb cream for photos, hand cream, face wipes, lip balm, lansinoh nipple cream
Eye mask and earplugs to try to sleep when your baby does/when oh holds the baby. The ward is bright and loud!
Dark, old towel as hospital ones are tiny and scratchy
Pillows from home with old pillow cases (generally only 1 crappy pillow per bed). BF pillow if you have one (I never got on with them)
Maternity pads, although our hospital provided these. You'll need loads at home and those pampers bed mats are a good idea too. You can always use them up later when toilet training!
Carrier bags for dirty laundry
Peppermint tea bags to help with trapped wind that can be nasty after section.
Keep baby stuff separate so you can find it easily, first hat, clothes, nappy in a zip loc so OH can grab it. Muslins are useful and multi-purpose from day 1.
Water wipes for baby, cotton wool and water is a nightmare and totally ineffective a lot of the time. If you have to do any clean ups on baby or yourself when you're left alone they're brilliant. Top recommendation for baby bum cream - Waitrose Bottom Butter. We'll be using Naty disposable nappies for a few weeks as they have less chemicals.
Snacks - wholesome and easy to eat like flapjacks, fruit and nut bars. Water bottle with sports cap. Get your OH to bring you nice fresh juice or something so you don't get dehydrated or constipated. The latter is truly the last thing you want to be faced with, post surgery with a shared loo.
Phone chargers.
Think that's it - it's definitely good to know in advance if you're having a section as you do need totally different stuff really.
