Yes Raffles! 30 weeks today! I am a bag of moans in this heat. My husband dragged support stockings over my cankles this morning and i could happily cut my own cervical stitch out at present! I hope everyone else is managing? Feel for you all on NICU in this heat, it's stressful enough! You're nearly 30 weeks too Raffles?x

Bear2014 · 18/06/2017 14:45

This heat is outrageous! We took DD to a local paddling pool and I actually un-ceremoniously sat in it, in my dress! Could not care less about keeping up the facade of being a lady - ha ha

Lolly do they have any idea at present how long you might be in? Hope all is going as smoothly as can be hoped. How's the hospital site food and drink amenities? At St Thomas' I lived on those thick milkshakes from AMT.

32 weeks today! I'm the same size as I was at 39 last time. Urgh.

Lolly2803 · 18/06/2017 15:14

The heat is awful. Makes everything so much harder doesn't it!! Paddling pool sounds amazing Bear and go for it I say. You need it!

Not sure how long they'll be in for yet. Feeding seems to be the main thing as they've had sensitive tummies so starting them on milk in small doses. Think that will be the key really as doesn't seem to be anything else.
I've just been discharged this afternoon and just at home having something to eat before going back. We've only got our flat till Thursday so after that need to figure out a plan. Already cried a lot today as feels so weird being back in an empty flat with an empty tummy and my babies not here. I know I am sooo lucky just feel a bit emotional with it all xxxx

Bear2014 · 18/06/2017 15:18

Ah Lolly totally understandable! Your hormones must be all over the place too. You'll have to delegate a lot of the house jobs so it's all lovely for the babies to come home to, in the meantime they can get big and strong xx

OP posts:
MrsCrabtree · 18/06/2017 19:49

Aww lolly of course you feel emotional, so many life changes all at once.

Omg paddling pool sounds amazing. Am so so hot. WTAF am I going to wear to work this week??

Hope everyone is coping x

RafflesMaidenSister · 19/06/2017 12:58

Hi Guys, parents in law have finally left after a reasonably fraught weekend (everyone tried but just all very different people) and now I can get back to properly concentrating on feeling too hot and knackered. Lot of running around in the heat yesterday and Saturday and am starting to feel it today. Mr RMS is bringing a paddling pool home for the dogs after work so I might co-opt that ...

Hope those in hospital/on bed rest are surviving - must be unbearable in this weather - think I would be going loopy. Fraggle - I am 30 weeks today. I also (and with less reason) would from a purely selfish perspective be very happy to get this over and done with already - I am seriously hoping for cooler weather soon!

Bear2014 · 19/06/2017 13:27

Ah Raffles, In Laws are a funny bunch aren't they. Mine were here this weekend too. I used to have a pretty strained relationship with them - they're also very different people - and in the 6 years before OH and I had DD they never once came to visit us in London despite the door being open. Since she was born, they have come every 3 months without fail (4.5 hours on the train), so I have never been under any illusions that they are there to see her and not me! The baby stage was challenging as they just sat around drinking tea waiting for me to finish breastfeeding so they could hold her, but now it's great as I can send them off to the park for 4 hours and sit on my arse at home. Things should hopefully improve for you in a similar vein!

My advice is don't let them stay with you the first time they visit after the baby is born, and try to hold them off for a few weeks - you need your space! That's what hotels are for Grin

Hope everyone is coping ok today in the unbearable heat!

OP posts:
RafflesMaidenSister · 19/06/2017 14:51

Thanks for the advice, Bear. I don't want to be mean but can't imagine coping with them as house guests when we have a brand new baby.

That being said, they are very excited for the baby and I hope they'll enjoy being grandparents. Can't at the moment see them taking Fig to the park, but who knows how things will develop!

FraggleRock77 · 21/06/2017 12:42

Hello. How's everyone getting on in this heat? My support stockings are working a treat! No ballon feet.
I've just got back from my scan, with a mixed review. The baby is growing well but my cervix is giving up the ghost again. I've had my first steroid shot today and another tomorrow. It doesn't mean i will go into labour but it's a possibility. I'm not concerned though as there are so many pluses now x

RafflesMaidenSister · 21/06/2017 13:44

Good luck Fraggle! Pleased you sound so positive. You have been a legend stuck on bed rest for so long. Past 30 weeks is fantastic.

Bear2014 · 21/06/2017 13:53

Hi Fraggle! Must have been nice to get out of the house, even if it was just to the hospital. Absolutely - great that the baby is growing well and as for everything else, each day is a bonus and you've done really well to keep him in cooking this long.

Hi Raffles hope you're surviving the heat.

I've been coping ok by having rock bottom expectations for daily achievement but I'm SO happy the temperature is set to drop tomorrow. Yay!

OP posts:
FraggleRock77 · 21/06/2017 20:43

Thanks Bear and yes, any trip out the house is a change of scenery!
I agree with your low expectations each day, especially in this heat.x

mistletoeprickles · 21/06/2017 22:56

Hi everyone.

Glad everyone is doing well and I'm pleased to read the babies are doing great.

This bloody heat is breaking me! DP has been making it home in time to do the school pick up so I don't have to go out which has been a great help.
I too am achieving nothing on a daily basis. I'm exhausted because I can't find a cool enough place to sleep. Tonight I have chosen the living room floor as it seems to be the coolest place I can't find.

Anyone else swollen? My feet are huge, midwife has assured me it's nothing sinister and just the heat but my god they hurt

Bear2014 · 22/06/2017 11:05

Hi Mistletoe! Seems like temperatures are coming down now, hope you're feeling a bit more comfortable. Hoping that tonight might be cool enough to sleep with the window closed again as they're diverting buses up our road at the moment and the night before last we were also woken up by shagging foxes - so tired!

The foot thing is bad, I've been ok but my sister who is 26 weeks has been suffering with it. Ice water and elevation helps apparently. Not hugely practical in the office/when looking after children but there you go Grin

OP posts:
RafflesMaidenSister · 22/06/2017 13:20

Bad luck mistletoe! Much cooler here today and hope it is the same for all of you.

My feet - which had done a sterling effort up to now - suddenly ballooned yesterday afternoon. Bit disconcerting the speed they went up but seem to be receding now.

Hope everyone's still good and babies are doing well!

mistletoeprickles · 24/06/2017 09:43

Yep cooler here too, thank god. I'm not sure how much more I could of taken.

My feet are definately better, I did spend a lot of time with them in cold water which helped but they were quite painful because of swelling.

I'm well and truly finished with work now, the upside to a section is that I will only be pregnant for a maximum of another 5 and half weeks although there's has been some talk of moving it forward slightly due to the diabetes. I'd love for them to move it to the end of July if I'm honest.

MrsCrabtree · 25/06/2017 15:26

Hi everyone, Happy Sunday! Glad the weather has cooled off for everyone. Last week was pretty hellish all round I imagine. My commutes were unbelievable.

How are you doing Fraggle? Any signs of labour? Hope you're ok mistletoe, bear, and you're loving being a mummy lolly Star

Still two months away from my due date and another 5 weeks at work... seems ages but I am lucky not to have any complications (yet). Getting used to not moving about much because of the pain but hopefully that's temporary so not complaining. Hope you're all relaxing too xx

FraggleRock77 · 25/06/2017 21:11

Hey MrsCrab. Thank you for the thoughts. I know what you mean about having so many weeks left, it feels like a life time! No signs of labour for me. I have expanded again though and i look like I'm smuggling a beach ball up my top. I did go out today and really struggled with being looked at! Is it just me?! I was wearing TED stockings and flip flops, which isn't too attractive! I don't know people are coping with work and pregnancy! You're all troopers xx

MrsCrabtree · 25/06/2017 21:28

Good news Fraggle. The stockings and flip flop look sounds fab Grin I had to trap my dress between my thighs the other day to stop the chafing, that was also attractive!! Yes I do find it weird people looking at me more. Strange how they suddenly don't notice me when I'm trying to get a set on the train tho Hmm

Sorry Raffles I forgot you in my prev post but hope you're alright too and your feet are better x

RafflesMaidenSister · 26/06/2017 07:43

Fraggle - that's fantastic that you're still holding on. MrsCrab, glad you're OK - commuting in that weather must've been hellish - I opted out and worked from home. Start commuting by train tomorrow though - so not totally looking forward to that.

Mistletoe - sorry the heat has been really bad for you - I survived OK apart from the amazing ballooning feet. They've gone down now. Hoping this week will be much cooler as I was completely unproductive in the heat and am behind at work too.

Bear - hope you're sister is feeling better soon. Swollen feet are the pits.

Had a minor setback last night when we had no movement for most of the day and had a quick trip to the antenatal assessment unit. Started turning somersaults as soon as the monitor was attached. Unfortunately this showed a lot of "contractions", but it is not preterm labour just (yet more) Braxton Hicks. Scared me a bit though, because I got a very stern talking to about going back in if the BHs continued or for any other reason. Since I have been very Braxton Hicksy since about 18 weeks its difficult to know what to do. Have the midwife today so will ask her about it, but just worry, particularly with MH background, about being too much of a drama llama (which is ironic as problem has always been worrying Wink).

Hope all the mothers and babies are doing well. Looking forward to an update!

Bear2014 · 26/06/2017 09:14

Hi everyone.. Blue and Lolly thinking of you and all the babies!

Raffles hope you're feeling a bit more comfortable, and that sounds scary with the lack of movement! Little buggers like to keep us on our toes don't they. Thanks for asking about my sis - the hugely swollen feet triggered a gestational diabetes test and it came back positive so she's fed up about that but at least it's an explanation.

Fraggle great that you're still hanging in there. The stockings sound like a great look! Yes I get looked at all the time now, doesn't really bother me as it's not leery and I don't tend to get any comments, I think it's mostly just that I look so huge people think I might be ready to drop any minute, ha ha.

Mrscrab the chafing is horrid isn't it! Pregnancy is such a glamorous time. Outrageous that you're being ignored on the train! I prod people and ask them if they do that to me.

Mistletoe sorry you're struggling and definitely hope for your sake they bring it forward a bit.

As for me, nothing much to report other than feeling massive, totally fed up with work and it's getting harder to sleep with this concrete boulder attached to me. I've got the midwife on Friday so I'll find out what novel position baby is in. I don't hold out much hope he's head down or even bum down, as i quite frequently see and feel what looks like both a bum and a head straining against the sides of my bump, and I get a lot of swift kicks to the bladder. I don't mind another section but can't face another 1.5 weeks in the hospital, especially now we have DD to think about - the longest we've been apart is 2 nights. If he's huge, I don't see why they can't just do it at 38 weeks in this instance but they refused last time so I imagine they might again.

OP posts:
FraggleRock77 · 26/06/2017 11:22

Sorry to hear about your set back Raffles! I don't like the idea of the MW giving you a talking too!!
I asked the same question Bear. I wanted my section at 37 weeks but was told the new term is 39 due to an increase in babies born with breathing issues at 37.
Not long now Mistles!
And MrsCrab, could you spray some deodorant down there?! I spray under my boobs!! So glamorous x

Bear2014 · 26/06/2017 11:24

Yes they told me that too, about the lung surfactants. I just don't really get how they will happily section at 38 weeks for GD babies, but won't for a 9lb + baby who is in a dangerous position. They would rather have you bed blocking in Antenatal for 7 days.

OP posts:
RafflesMaidenSister · 26/06/2017 11:33

Bear that sucks. Hope it all sorts itself out.

Thanks Fraggle. I have been very laid back about BHs but they just seemed to take them so seriously that I was a bit taken aback because I've been having them for yonkers and no baby (thankfully). I may pack my hospital bag early just to ward off the risk (superstitious much?!) Unfortunately before I can do that I have to find everything in the boxes that have come from the flat Grin.

mistletoeprickles · 28/06/2017 12:35

I was told the same about a section but now I have the GD there is talk of 38 weeks. Our hospital stay could be slightly longer if the baby's sugar levels aren't too good.
I will be told be sure when my section will be in 2 weeks time. I can not wait, I'm ready for a date to work towards.

I have packed my hospital bag! I'm nesting quite badly now and having been dreaming of going into natural labour and not having my bag ready so it's now sat by the door just in case. Which of course, in my silly mind, now means I'll be fine until section day.

It's really hard to think I'm on the final stretch now
