If you choose to breast feed - good for you
If you choose to bottle feed - good for you
But if you choose to be a breast feeding warrior and look at those who choose to bottle feed as scum then I hope you slip in dog shit tomorrow.

The amount of horrible women I've come across who are like this is too many now. And as I am heavily pregnant and have hormone rage it is really pissing me off.

Thank you for listening.

Skerry what are you on about? The smoking and the pregnancy were unrelated points. Like I said, anecdotal.

captainproton · 28/02/2017 22:31

I'm not having a pop just commenting how I had a baby soon after my first like you did. I think it great, they are fab together and I was lucky despite BF.

DianaMemorialJam · 28/02/2017 22:34

It's amazing isn't it? Ds2 is lucky to be here, they told me I was miscarrying.

I can smoke
I get to go on nights out when I like
My period came back straight away
I can leave the babies all day with dh/anyone else
I can wear my sexy bras again

Compared to the amazing health benefits of breast feeding for your baby why are these relevant? Like surely you wouldnt dismiss how amazing breast milk is for a baby just because you want to smoke and go on nights out?? Strange.

I do think that as long as a baby is fed, that is whats best whether its formula or breast BUT they are in no way reasons to not breast feed! Breast is scientifically better but formula is awesome too.

DianaMemorialJam · 01/03/2017 01:20

I DONT deny how good breast milk is. Breast feeding just wasn't for me.

DianaMemorialJam · 01/03/2017 01:21

And those things are a few of the ways I have benefitted personally. It just really seems to have offended some people, which I didn't mean to purposely cause. It's just another view point.

Daisies123 · 01/03/2017 07:07

I didn't see any info at all about how it was possible to give formula early on if your milk hadn't come in. The only info anywhere was that introducing any formula then would ruin your supply. The books I read talked about not giving into the temptation to give a bottle. No mention it might be a medical necessity. Or a lifesaver. That's what I mean about providing realistic practical advice.

If you tell someone breast is best and that introducing formula early on will interrupt supply, when that person then has to use formula because her milk isn't there yet that's where the mental health problems come from.

My (admittedly bonkers) NHS antenatal class even talked about caesarean under general anaesthetic, without everyone assuming that that would be the end result for them. It's about making sure mothers have all the info in advance and are prepared.

Daisies123 · 01/03/2017 07:10

There was no response to my question about where you get donor milk from as it's meant to be preferable to formula.

The only UK information I could find was about donating your own milk to milk banks for use in NICUs, although it looked like it was possible to buy it in the US.

Daisies123 · 01/03/2017 07:12

And LOL re the periods - my 50/50 BF/FF stopped mine for eleven months!

Truebelles · 01/03/2017 07:16

Absolutely hate these threads.

Daisies123 · 01/03/2017 07:16

Looks like that research into breastfeeding trauma that I took part in at Swansea Uni has been published! This seems to be a summary of it with links to the research:

Struggling to see the benefits for a baby in this list.

RyanStartedTheFire · 01/03/2017 07:23

Donor milk is available in lots of places, human milk 4 human babies, there's groups online if you're willing to go unregulated. I was looking to donate to UK milk banks. They do exist.

neonrainbow · 01/03/2017 08:00

Why would you choose to give unregulated donor milk to your baby? How the hell could that be better than giving formula?

Daisies123 · 01/03/2017 08:41

Why on earth would anyone give unregulated donor milk to their baby?! When there's an absolutely fine alternative available called formula...

DianaMemorialJam · 01/03/2017 08:42

*skerryI it's not. They're benefits for me. Not sure why I have to keep repeating myself.

DianaMemorialJam · 01/03/2017 08:42

Skerry

DianaMemorialJam · 01/03/2017 08:43

And agree about unregulated donor milk. No way in hell would I be giving that to one of my children.

RyanStartedTheFire · 01/03/2017 09:18

Some people are obviously fine with it or it wouldn't exist. It's not something I've ever done but it's up to the parents own judgement.

RyanStartedTheFire · 01/03/2017 09:21

Would you be ok with it if one of your family members donated it or is it just that you don't want them having someone else's breast milk?

DianaMemorialJam · 01/03/2017 09:26

I would feel a bit wierd about my children drinking someone else's breast milk. I think it comes down to my hatred of cows milk, although I hope I don't pass that into them!

primaryboodle · 01/03/2017 09:26

I have no medical expertise here but dangers of unregulations aside, isnt ot pointless giving donor milk because the benefits of baby specific antibodies etc wouldn't happen?

neonrainbow · 01/03/2017 09:29

I was fine with my twins having pasteurised donor milk through the hospital in NICU. There is no way giving them unregulated milk would ever be a better option than giving them formula. anyone who thinks that giving a baby breastmilk from an unknown and unregulated source is ok is bloody delusional.

RyanStartedTheFire · 01/03/2017 09:31

I believe I've read that all regulated donor milk is pasteurised and loses a lot of benefits but I think that it reduces the chances of complications in SCBU babies and preemies, hence why it's more available in those areas.
I've never used donor milk and I'm not a donor milk advocate, I was just answering a PP question about where to source donor milk.
