Pregnancy After Infertility IV

Pregnancy after infertility or fertility treatment can be a scary place, from scanxiety to unexplained bleeding to other random symptoms.

We are a supportive group of women across all stages of pregnancy who are used to being on the wrong side of the odds and still can't believe it's really happening.

Congratulations lucie!! What wonderful news, you must be over the moon Smile So glad to hear your happy ending after all the support you've given so many of us on the infertility/conception board xx

Welcome clueless and congratulations! How far along are you? Did you do ivf?

Afm, I'm 6+3 and still no symptoms except sore boobs (I keep prodding them to make sure they're still tender) and an occasional dull ache in my lower left abdomen. It was a bit more constant yesterday so started googling "signs of ectopic pregnancy". My GP doesn't want to hear from me again until approx 8 wks and my DH thinks we should wait for that before considering an early scan. He's probably right, but time is moving sooo slowly!

Quite a few of you coming up to full term, exciting!

fourpawswhite · 29/05/2017 09:41

Congratulations lucie. Lovely news.

Hello to all, hope everyone ok and enjoying a bank holiday.

lucieloos · 29/05/2017 20:24

Thanks everyone! Our 3rd night back at home today and all is good. Starting to catch up on sleep a little after the birth. Can't believe we have a gorgeous little daughter now though she is amazing!

Rosebud, I was 40+4 when I went into labour. 12 hours from start to birth. Managed it on gas and air only but I have to admit nothing would have prepared me for the pain but she is totally worth it.

Sammy, aww your message also brought a tear to my eye. We have been in it together from the start and there were many times I never thought i would get to this stage but look at us now. Hope all is going well with the twins.

Sara237 · 02/06/2017 06:06

Hello fellow preggers! Are other ladies waking up earlier and earlier? Maybe it was the birth talk at the antenatal class last night but woke at 3 and couldn't get back to sleep. Went downstairs and cleaned kitchen. Not like me!
Can't believe I am 30 weeks now and enjoying feeling lots of movement. Put curtains up in baby's room yesterday. All very lovely. Just got to go back to work next week as been off for half term and really not looking forward to returning. Planning to work till mid July and 8 months. Wish I was a lady of leisure! How are others experiencing work/heat/preg? Waves to all x

Custardandcream · 02/06/2017 09:36

Star time moves so slowly in the first few weeks but try and stay away from google!

lucie 12 hours sounds quite good, hope you've been managing to get some sleep.

Sara I'm 31 weeks and although I'm not waking up early I am waking up more in the night I've been up once during the night since 12 weeks but the last week it's been twice every night so I'm increasingly tired! The heat has made me realise I have no summer maternity clothes and made my feet swell up! But I'm not complaining, I love feeling so much movement (even the slightly painful big kicks) and I'm trying to keep a lid on the fear.

Waves to everyone else

blue2014 · 02/06/2017 13:59

Sara - by 36 weeks I was getting about an hours sleep a night! It was definitely better once the baby came!

broodynmoody · 02/06/2017 15:57

Hello Ladies waves

I've just had my first round of IVF and tested positive l. Cant quite believe it! Every twinge in worrying, worrying what i eat now. Cant relax as this means so much to me and I cant exactly try again straight away!

Sara237 · 03/06/2017 10:10

Hi broody!
Wow you must be elated huge congrats to you. I felt the same after getting bfp on second round. Tested every day for a month! Constant knicker checking. Am 30 weeks now and still can't totally relax and assume all will be well - but its all normal and we just have to go with it. But you have a great result there so enjoy the excitement x

broodynmoody · 03/06/2017 13:29

sara 30 weeks thats fantastic! Yeah i tested again today and I've ordered more off the internet Blushjust cant help myself. Still can't accept it might actually be happening.

star1980 · 03/06/2017 19:06

Congratulations broody and welcome Smile That's amazing! How long were you trying before the ivf? I got a positive 3 weeks ago just before my second ivf. I totally know what you mean about worrying about every twinge - soon you'll be worrying when the twinges stop! Try and relax and feel happy you're pregnant - all you can do now is wait. Will your clinic do a viability scan at 6/7 weeks?

broodynmoody · 04/06/2017 16:23

star Thanks, I was trying for just over 2 years with my partner, and then a year with my previous partner. PCO but i ovulate regularly so it was unexplained.
They should do i hope so, i have to phone them on my OTD which is Tuesday and then hopefully they'll book a scan.
Im trying to let it sink in but i just still daren't be happy about it. It means so much to us. Congrats on your success after 2nd x

maplebaby · 08/06/2017 07:14

Hello everyone... wondering if I could creep on in here. I recognise some names - star, Lucie, mpp, trixie, sammy from the 18+ thread and broody from the IVF thread. Congratulations! Looks like most have graduated from this thread! Grin

I had my very first BFP after 2.5 years unexplained on Saturday but OTD wasn't until today. Had a massive wobble mid week as I stupidly tested again on a frer and the line wasn't as dark as I thought it would be. Plus lots of symptoms vanishing! But I've tested again today and the line is stronger and the digital still says 2-3! So today, I'm pregnant.

Now I'm back to being worried again!

Custardandcream · 08/06/2017 08:52

Welcome and congratulations broody and maple, it's surprising how quickly the joy of seeing a positive test turns into worry! When will you be having your viability scans?

loopylou1984 · 08/06/2017 10:03

Congratulations Maple!!! So pleased to see you here 😊

maplebaby · 08/06/2017 10:42

Thanks both - still feels surreal and can't help but worry. I've promised DH I won't do any tests between now and the scan which is on 30th June. It's going to be a long 3 weeks and the 2ww was bad enough!

I'm worrying now as I'm meant to be going to a hen do that day until Sunday and if it isn't good news I won't want to go anymore!

star1980 · 08/06/2017 18:20

Welcome maple and congratulations again!

Oh I know the worry well - it's a familiar friend Smile. I'll be 8 weeks tomorrow and think I'm still pregnant though not had scan yet and actually only took 2 tests on 4+1 and 4+2. So we'll see I guess. I only just completed the self referral form for maternity care yesterday so no scan or appt dates for me yet.

Ladies who are further along, did you get sickness? And if so when did it start? I've had waves of nausea but haven't actually been sick - I'm not wishing for it, but just wondering if it's common to not have any at 8 weeks. Only symptoms so far are big, sore boobs and tiredness. Wish I felt a bit more pregnant tbh.

maplebaby · 09/06/2017 09:20

Thanks star - are you planning to have a private scan or wait until the 12 week one? I'm so nervous about the 8 week one already! I think it's wise to stop peeing on the sticks, I've thrown all mine out even the positive ones I've used.

Can't help with the symptoms as I think all mine are progesterone related and it's so early still. But I am hungry all the time and have some tummy pains but that's it.

Custardandcream · 09/06/2017 09:42

maple the wait for the first scan does seem to take forever! Does the hen know about the IVF? If not could you be a bit vague and say you have a medical appointment on the Friday and depending on the outcome you might not be able to make it? On the other hand getting out with friends might be just what you need either way.

star your symptoms sound promising, my nausea came and went (actually started a few days before OTD) but I was never actually sick.

maplebaby · 09/06/2017 10:32

Custard im going to try and see if they can get me in earlier (even if by a day) when I go in to collect my prescription for more cyclogest and fragmin. Hen doesn't know about IVF (in fact only one person going knows but doesn't know the result yet).

How are you doing?

Custardandcream · 09/06/2017 11:38

maple moving the scan might be the best option, hopefully everything will be ok and you'll have a great time on the hen do.

I'm ok thanks 32 + 2 now. I'm currently sat bolt upright and will probably sit on my ball in a bit as I think bubs has moved back to lying transverse (across instead of head down or breech). The head was down at 31 week midwife appointment, but I'm pretty sure from where I'm feeling movement today this is no longer the case. I know there is quite a bit of time left but I have a consultant appointment at 34 weeks and I'm hoping to get signed off onto midwife led and I'd have a better chance if bubs is head down!

star1980 · 09/06/2017 12:19

Congrats custard, that's amazing you're so far along - not long now! Are you hoping to give birth at a birthing centre? Hope baby plays along and gets their head down soon!

Maple, my oh is kind of anti anything private and just likes to do what the medical people say is needed, hence 12 weeks. I'm not desperate for an early scan so I can just wait (with the nagging fear of finding nothing there!). My weirdest feeling was at being discharged so immediately from the fertility clinic. Because I didn't manage to start ivf, when I called them to say I'd had a positive test they just said congratulations and there was no need to come in and if it didn't work out then I'd need to be re-referred for fertility treatment (put less bluntly and more kindly than that). I felt like they were abandoning me and imagined they might have some care like an early scan because of fibroids or something. Obviously it does make sense that they don't see me, but it made me quite scared!

Hope you get an early scan because you will be in a much better position to tell someone your news with a day or so for it to sink in. The hard thing about all these years in infertility is how aware we are about the chance of things going wrong. However, we also have every chance of this working out, so try not to worry and I'll try too Smile

moggle · 09/06/2017 12:24

Hi thought I would come along and join. Waves to broody and maple from the May:june thread!
I'm 6w 2 days now after a FET, we have a 2.5 year old DD from our first fresh cycle and this is our 4th attempt at a FET since August, we were really lucky and had 10 frozen. Nearly all used up now though!

I had no nausea at all with DD, it was an amazing pregnancy! I was hoping for a carbon copy, but am on my knees already this time with sickness and diarrhoea and can barely eat until about 6pm. Monday DH had to work at home to look after DD, i made it into work on tues and weds but just sat there and was very unproductive. yesterday mum came over to help and today the ILs are here while I should be working but am still in bed. It's like a constant tummy bug, it's horrible.

Anyway... Scan is on Monday. Have had a bit of light bleeding which is worrying but with the illness I'm having surely it can't be bad news... we had two put back in so could be twins which I will be honest I am shitting myself over. Had a slight breakdown to my mum yesterday about how we'd cope. Her answer was we will come and help and lend you some money for a new car too. Love my mum :-)

tickingcl0ck · 09/06/2017 19:29

Hello all! Im from the may/june ivf cycle thread, and saw maple post that she was here. Hi to maple, broody, moggle, from the same thread.

Im 4 weeks pregnant post IVF. It was my first time on a fresh cycle. I have my ultrasound scan on the 23rd. Until then I'm still taking it all in stride. I havent bought any pregnancy books, im only taking folic acid atm. I feel scared to go buy them then find out that theres nothing there. It doesnt help that you read about blighted ovums or other sorts of false pregnancies but boy am i going thru all symptoms. Im constantly nauseated. ive had several vomiting episodes. Ive tried ginger tea, ginger biscuits, crackers, nothing seems to work. Can i ask for some of your more tried and tested methods? I know every woman is different so what might work for you will work for me. And what prenatal vitamins are you taking for the first trimester?

Ash75454 · 09/06/2017 23:01

Hi everyone.
I too am joining after maple said the May/June IVF team were here. It's been so great having your company so far. To everyone else on here too hi!

I'm 5 weeks today after just under 3 years TTC a cancelled fresh transfer in December and failed attempt in Feb. I'm still not sure a week later that it has sunk in! Very reassuring to know I'm not the only one that wants to keep testing. I'm trying to be strict now and space them out a few days at least! First scan 27th and yes the time goes really slowly.

moggle and ticking sorry to hear you are feeling poorly.

Brook450 · 10/06/2017 10:35

Hi everyone

I'm new to all of this but wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I'm 5w 6days pregnant after our 1st round of ICSI. I had a miscarriage two years ago and no success after that so we've spent the last year slowly making our way through the NHS system to be diagnosed with unexplained infertility and referred for IVF. After all the waiting, emotion and stress of the last two years it doesn't quite feel real to finally be pregnant. It feels like there's such a very long way to go before we finally get a baby and each day is dragging at the moment.

I've had sore boobs and period pain since ET but that's probably the progesterone. I've been getting really tired and some crampy, pulling feelings as well.

Anyone else dreamt they were having a miscarriage? I had one dream in the middle of treatment that really shook me up (I was at the peak of all the hormones) and last night I dreamt I was bleeding. Scary but not surprising given it's all I think about at the moment.

Counting down the days to my first scan next Friday.

@tickingcl0ck I'm just taking the standard pregnacare vits now. Been thinking about taking extra calcium too as I don't drink milk but I can't find anything definitive online to say that's ok, everything says to check with your doctor. Anyone taken calcium? Most of them have vit d in too so I don't want to take too much as d is in the pregnacare too. I'm probably over thinking this...

Hope that those of you with bad sickness feel better soon. Wishing everyone lots and lots of luck over the coming months xxx
