Just being nosey, really.

I managed to fall pg straight away on our first month of trying but sadly miscarried. Now we've been trying for 4 months since and no joy, even though we BD at the right times, etc.

So I was just wondering how long it took you all to get pg so I have an idea of the average around here?

Many thanks!

Got pregnant within 2 weeks of coming off the pill, also miscarried. Got pregnant with my fab ds 6 months later. Good luck!

ShowOfHands · 26/02/2007 12:44

It took me a year- had a miscarriage after 9 months of trying and then got and stayed pregnant after exactly a year (to the day). I was 25, DH was 24, both healthy.

Just out of interest, they (docs etc) say that it takes about a year on average for a young, healthy couple to conceive (it's at this point that they start to refer for fertility testing) and when I chatted to my very lovely Kiwi doctor after my mc he said that it's only in England that we expect it to happen so quickly. He always advises that 2 years is completely normal. Your chances of conceiving even if you have sex at exactly the right moment are 30% so it can take time.

berolina · 26/02/2007 12:46

I've had 5 pgs, always conceived within 2-3 cycles, but miscarried 3 times.

DizzyBint · 26/02/2007 12:47

first time of trying.

Hulababy · 26/02/2007 12:48

I was 26 when I first started TTC. Took 15 months, then early MC than another 14/15 months to concieve DD.

Did TTC #2 for a while. Stopped after 18 unsuccessful months. have now found out there were reasons for this and I am havinf a small op later this year that may help it - if we decided to try aagain,a lthough that is not likely now!

fryalot · 26/02/2007 12:48

dd1 - about three months

dd2 - 10 years (plus 2 m/c)

ds - one night

Creena · 26/02/2007 12:52

Show of Hands is bang on - it should take, on average, at least a year. When I visited my GP as we were about to start ttc my current pregnancy, he advised that I should wait for at least a year before expecting anything to happen and only after two years should I then think about seeking further advice from him. Age is obviously also an important factor - as I was 37 at the time (am now 38), my GP warned me that it may not happen at all.

Wavedancer - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! I'm very sorry to hear about your mc but on the positive side, you know that you are physically capable of conceiving. Good luck and try not to worry.

Bubbaloo · 26/02/2007 13:26

Ds took 7 years and this one took 1 month.

buttercupbabe · 26/02/2007 13:35

Second cycle when I conceived ds. Now in 3rd cycle trying to conceieve baby number 2.

jabuti · 26/02/2007 13:37

hi wavedancer, make sure that the right times are REALLY the right times. i read so many stories of women that were mistaken about their cycle... and recently i read an article that said the main problem in our culture with sub-infertility is the lack of sex!!!

ja9 · 26/02/2007 13:38

2nd cycle with ds

1st with this pg.

feel very blessed.

Wheelybug · 26/02/2007 13:42

3rd Cycle with dd
1st time with pg2 which ended in m/c
now been trying 5/6 months to no avail !

Creena · 26/02/2007 13:44

Wavedancer (and anyone else ttc) - I read an excellent book when ttc, which I found really informative and useful. It's called Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It explains fertility signs and how to interpret them, understanding and charting your cycle, when to time sex according to your cycle etc. There are lots of diagrams, pictures and examples illustrated throughout, making it easy to understand. I would recommend it.

Creena · 26/02/2007 13:47

Would add to my last post that, after the reading the book and understanding more about how my cycle works, I got a BFP after just three weeks of trying (at the grand old age of 37). I'm not promising or suggesting that this will happen to anyone else who reads the book but I do think that having a better understanding of how your cycle works and what signs to look for contributed to our BFP. Good luck to everyone ttc.

rachfran · 26/02/2007 13:48

It took 2 years for DD but she was worth the wait

peacemakeruk · 26/02/2007 14:02

3 months with 1st, 2 miscarriages, 3 months with 2nd and 18 months with 3rd.

Wavedancer · 26/02/2007 14:03

Thanks everyone for the replies. It's wonderful to hear all your stories, especially those of you who had a long wait, it's all very inspiring and I wish you all the very best with your pregnancies.

Creena & jabuti - I have read TCOYF. I know when I am ovulating and we make sure we're BD-ing every day in my 'fertile window'. In fact sometimes I wonder if we're not overdoing it somehow?!

How are you working out when you ovulate? Took me 18 months (and one early mc) with ds1 largely because I think I was assuming ovulation on day 14 so going crazy up until then then having a rest maybe missing the window. This time I used my persona which was indicating ovulation on day 15/16 and got pg second month of using it! (very surprised). I also think stress was delaying things for me first time - when I decided to give it a rest for a while and relax I got pg with ds1. Good luck.
