I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Well done blondes. Brilliant news that you don't feel sick too.

Thank you for advice re ketostix, dh is buying some today. Had a very rough day yesterday, filled with more vomit and bile than I ever wanted to see. Woke up to my cat sniffing at my Vom bowl in disgust. Today I am thankful for salt and vinegar crisps and ice lollies and so far only one vomit.

You guys are all heroes for getting through this - have you found time has dragged? My days seem like weeks.

..And now, Blondes having entered the fabled Pink Castle to the accompaniment of a fanfare of trumpets, here is the new Due Dates list.
In fact, we haven't heard from the top two sufferers for a long time, which I hope means they are doing well. Castlefeck tops the list of regulars.

Putputput - time goes so incredibly slowly. I can't believe I'm only 19w.
Glad crisps and ice lollies are working for you. For some reason salty things really do help. Keep resting and hopefully you can stay on top of the vomiting.

Had my anatomy scan a couple of days ago. Baby is growing perfectly well and measuring bang on for dates. Sonographer was also an HG sufferer so was extra thorough with everything and showing us how the HG has not hindered baby in any way whatsoever. Very glad that I only have 21 weeks left of suffering. Already stocking up my chocolate cupboard for post partum.

Hugs and waves for all.

LucindaE · 30/03/2017 19:51

putput Sorry to hear that, missed your post, stupid me. How are ketones checking with the famous sticks?
Meleebacca Maybe that is why normally unmentionable Macdonalds can be bearable?

Thanks Lucinda, Woooo hooooo, only 20 days until my due date.

Lemondrop09 · 30/03/2017 23:18

Ergh, I'm officially feeling sorry for myself today. I went right downhill around lunchtime yesterday, had to finish work early and crashed out for a few hours. Not felt great most of today but felt slightly better in the late afternoon. Decided to try and go along to my fun choir class (having missed the last 5 weeks). Bad idea, I was not ready. Half an hour in, ended up vomiting so violently in the loos that it came out of my nose Shock Ouch and so gross. Not looking forward to tomorrow, can't wait for the weekend. Just want to curl up.

pauseplayrepeat · 31/03/2017 11:28

Hello everyone, I found the support from this thread - and particularly LucindaE (who'll know me as caramello) - invaluable during my last pregnancy. I honestly don't know what I would have done without it as the lovely people on here were the only ones to truly understand what it's like living with HG.

Found out last week I'm pregnant and my first thought was of the dreaded HG. Went to my GP and got prescribed zofran right away (it was then only thing that worked for me in my last pregnancies).

I'll be 5 weeks tomorrow and so far not been too bad - scaring me of course that something is wrong - but I can't quite remember when it really kicked in last time so am very nervous.

Lemondrop - sorry you had a rough day yesterday. Vomit out of nose = ouch indeed. Quite literally, chin up as you vom. Helped me sometimes not to vom through the nose.

Mellee - glad you're starting to think about the things you can enjoy again post partum. Those will be the best things you've ever eaten after so long of not enjoying food.

putputput hope you've got the ketostix now. Brilliant things that can mean the difference between dragging yourself to A&E/GP or staying on your in bed.

Lemondrop09 · 31/03/2017 11:50

Good luck pause! I'll be very interested to see how you get on. Right now, I'm not sure I'd ever do this again even though I always thought I'd have two children. I'll be interested to see, whether with very early medical intervention and your knowledge from your previous pregnancy, helps you through this one more easily. Congratulations and I truely hope you have a much easier ride this time!

pauseplayrepeat · 31/03/2017 12:31

Thanks Lemon. Same as you, I never thought I'd go through it again but this baby will be DC3. With my second it was easier going into it with more knowledge and I had a plan in place to start meds and acupuncture at 4 weeks. It was no walk in the park, I was still sick a lot, but I stayed out of hospital. If you get to a place where you think you want another, take heart that it is easier just being prepared mentally for what might come, and you won't have to jump through hoops to get medication, if you want it.

LucindaE · 31/03/2017 13:21

PausePlayRepeat or Caramello Welcome back! Of course I remember you - and you have a blog, too, I have sometimes visited.
You have a little girl and boy. Lovely to hear from you again, and I do hope you escape having this severely, at least. As you are already a veteran, you need no advice from me.
Lemondrop How awful, that nose thing is so painful. Are you still working, my goodness? As singing involves opening the throat, I can see why that might not be a good idea - often, with this, even talking is risky. Never mind, at least you can sing. I can't!
Castlefeck Top of the list for the drawbridge to Pink Castle.
How is everyone today?

Lemon that sounds horrible for you, hope you've recovered a bit now.

Thanks to all of you who recommended ketostix. I had 3+s this morning so went up to a&e. They were pretty good and I was home after two bags of fluids and enough iv anti sickness to send me to sleep for the rest of the afternoon. Onwards.

putputput · 31/03/2017 18:07

Oh and could you add me to the bottom of the list? EDD 17th November, just 231 pukey days to go!

Melleebacca · 31/03/2017 18:26

Pause & Lemon - this is number 2 for me. Slightly better than DD because I've managed to avoid hospital. It's also easier because I didn't have to try different drugs at the beginning to figure out what works, just starting popping ondansetron as soon as I found out. Resulted in delayed start of vomiting, less voms per day and the stopping of vomiting earlier (although I did bring up acid last night). But food aversions have doubled, weight gain is much slower and emotionally, it's been a black hole of despair. You're very brace Pause for doing this a 3rd time!

Melleebacca · 31/03/2017 19:04

Sorry putput, had to get up to DD before I got to write you a message. Glad you've got some ketostix and some fluids, you should feel a little better for a few days. Also, love your attitude towards the completion of the pukey days, made me 😊

LucindaE · 31/03/2017 19:13

putput So glad that you got prompt treatment, but sorry that it was that bad. I thought it must be getting that way, from the lack of liquids imbibed. Here you are at the end of the list. Never mind; in due course, you will be at the top, though it seems an age away.
Waves to Lemondrop - those up the nose vomits are the worst - Melleebacca and pause - but I am always going to think of you as Caramello! I have a horrible feeling I have dropped another November person from the list...Maybe not...

Oh goodness putput so glad you had the sticks. Sounds like a lot of us are still suffering. 18 weeks tomorrow and I still have some very bad days. Today was one. I have a gp follow up appointment on Monday so will let him know.

I meant to post, when I had my 16 week midwife appointment she was pretty disinterested about the HG. I don't really know what i expected, I didn't want special treatment or anything just perhaps acknowledgement that it's been hard for me but didn't really get anything back from her at all. I will see my usual midwife next time, perhaps I will mention it to her as she's normally very supportive of things.

I like seeing people back on the thread - makes me feel like there's hope!

Lemondrop09 · 31/03/2017 22:59

Oh putput, I'm sorry you ended up in A&E but really glad you got some help. Now you need to push to get a long term plan in place.

I've gotta say, I don't know how anyone manages to cope with having HG and children to look after. That's another factor that worries me about a future second pregnancy. I've had literally taken to my bed for weeks and weeks. And of course, I can. I feel bad enough that DH is waiting on me hand and foot, doing all the housework and walking the dog while working full time. Poor man is exhausted! I don't know how we'd cope with an older child running around.

Seriously to kudos to anyone who has more than one HG pregnancy. Superwomen, I salute you!

Fluteytootey · 01/04/2017 10:43

lemon, I've managed because I've had a lot of family support and booked lots more childcare! In fact DD is currently out with her babysitter for the day so that I can rest. I have no idea how people manage without that though. Hideous.

pippanippa · 01/04/2017 11:16

I wondered whether I can join you for a little moral support?

I'm due with my second DC in mid-November and it's looks like I will be poorly this pregnancy too. Last time around I had very severe morning sickness throughout, never diagnosed as HG as fortunately wasn't severe enough for hospitalisation, and only got some medication at the 6 month mark, and was unfortunately ill right up until the day I gave birth.

Only 7 weeks at present, but already starting to feel that familiar despair. I pushed for medication early this time, but sadly it's so far not the miracle cure I hoped for, hoping to join this community for a hand to hold over the long weeks and months to come!

Lemondrop09 · 01/04/2017 11:25

Hi Pippa. Sorry your feeling poorly again Sad Whar medication are you on?

pippanippa · 01/04/2017 11:49

Hi "Lemondrop". I'm taking meclizine (I'm not in the UK, but think it is similar to cyclizine), and on the insistence of my midwife some ginger tablets (I did at least persuade her eventually, based on bitter experience that ginger tea was not going to be of much help).

The medicine has helped with the constant nausea a little, and I think am being sick a bit less as a result, but still 4 x this morning already. I wish there was a fantastic cure (other than waiting and giving birth of course!).

pippanippa · 01/04/2017 11:50

Sorry lemondrop - bold fail!

Lemondrop09 · 01/04/2017 11:57

Ha, I want to punch people who suggest ginger Grin If the medication isn't working that well, it might be worth seeing if anything else is available where you are. I found promethazine good (it's also an antihistamine), and I'm now also on odansetron/Zofran. I don't know if odansetron is available where you are, or if they'll prescribe it for pregnant women where you are, but it is a very good drug. Might be worth checking out the Pregnancy Sickness Support website, its UK based by they might know about drug options abroad.

SleepymrsE · 01/04/2017 13:11

Having just suffered a 24 hour sickness bug thanks to toddler DS, I was reminded just how horrid HG is having obviously forgotten somewhat (DD nearly 6 months). So, I just wanted to say to all those going through it, you will start to forget as soon as those little ones are born. Hope you all have a relatively easy sickness free weekend.

LucindaE · 01/04/2017 17:35

Pippanippa Welcome. As you are an expert, I don't need to come out with my usual have you got kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration. You've already had great advice from Lemondrop09. I so agree about asking for different meds if those aren't effective. Do you find flat coke, ice lollies or ice cubes, the juice or fruit of tinned fruit, soda water, slices of melon, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps, Dr Pepper, cheap ice cream or sips of chocolate milk shake (perhaps soya).
I am shocked that midwife is obsessed with ginger. Oh dear! Very annoying.
littlepooch Sorry the midwife lacked empathy.
LemonDrop I join you in saluting them too!
SleepymrsE Sorry to hear of nasty stomach bug. That must have brought back happy memories - I don't think! Shock
Thanks for your lovely encouraging message.
