Grin massive congrats lucky on your baby girl!

Gingerbreadmam · 18/02/2017 18:25

jpeg hows things been through the day? dont hesitate to go and get some reassurance if you're worried. Midwifes are usually more than happy to see and put your mind at rest.

TheLegendOfBeans · 18/02/2017 19:20

Lucky, so glad we have a baby bouncing into this thread yayyyyy!

Ok, quick one. Can you request an early scan on the NHS? Considering asking for one at 9w. Reason? So in the event this pregnancy peters out at 5/6w I would be minimising the chance of getting bluelighted to A+E and morphined up whilst I wait for the only folk who can execute an "emergency" ERPC clock on for their first shift of the week - this happened last time when I was just shy of 11w pregnant with a mmc. The pain was excruciating. I never want to go through that again.

The reason I'd ask for 9w is that apparently a heartbeat can definitely be detected then.

Am I crazy?

Gingerbreadmam · 18/02/2017 19:58

i dont know if you would get an nhs scan for that but it's certainly worth an ask.

i ended up with early scans in both subsequent pregnancies due to bleeding but i hate scans.

sorry you had such a hard time with mmc. i ended up with emergency erpc too due to haemorraging so have been going through these early weeks preparing myself for how to demand an erpc asap should i end up in that situation again.

fingers crossed neither of us will end up.in that situation.

ImGonnaSingTheDoomSongNow · 18/02/2017 20:16

I'm not sure to be honest legend, I had my early scan at 7weeks due to spotting, my gp referred me. It's worth an ask. You can see my photo from that scan on the previous page, it was an internal one and we saw the heartbeat clealry fluttering away.

With my first pregnancy (the innocent successful one) Dr got my dates totally wrong so I went for my 12 week scan when I was only about 8 weeks, that was an external one and we didn't see a heartbeat. That would floor me these days but back then I didn't even think of it as a bad thing just thought it wasn't possible to pick it up.

Anyway, just ask and ask for an internal one.

purpleviolet1 · 18/02/2017 21:09

Welcome Amy! Wishing you all the best hopefully.

Legend, definitely worth an ask. Maybe your GP would be better to go to and explain it's causing you anxiety etc. They might be able to offer weekly bloods if not a scan to see the HCG rising.

Lucky congrats on your baby!!!

Right so who is next? Naschte?

TheLegendOfBeans · 18/02/2017 22:18

My GP has all of the touchy-feelyness of a reptilian overlord so I'll hang on until the booking in appointment and hope the midwife can make some magic happen come week 9 (if I make it that far) xx

purpleviolet1 · 18/02/2017 22:54

Could you try a different GP legend? Don't know if I got fobbed off but my midwife here in Scotland said she couldn't refer me for an early scan. She said she didn't have the authorisation to do that....

jpeg28 · 19/02/2017 07:41

Thanks ginger.... he seems to like hot drinks too and I went to the cinema and he peeked up then too!

Legend I would just ask. I had scans at 5/6/7 weeks but that was because of pain/bleeding and the scan at 7 was private. The worst they can say is no, and then you could try to find a reasonably priced private one?

Such a bad nights sleep last night... felt like someone was putting knives into my hips!!

SayItIsntSo1 · 19/02/2017 07:44

Congratulations Lucky.

Legend our EPAU has a criteria for early scans. I think it's a later loss, recurrent miscarriage, miscarriage threat/concern... plus a few others. My midwife was fairly understanding and ticked a couple of the boxes and said we'd get me in under one criteria or another. I went to see her at 5 weeks to make sure I had a scan booked in for 7/8 weeks and had my pick of days/times as I'd got in the system early.

I would echo what others have said and say go and push for what you can get. My concern with going for a private scan was that if it was bad news I wanted to feel like I was in a medical environment that had the capacity to talk through next steps with me.

Only 11 days until my next scan and the harmony test. I can already feel the doom building. I am starting to get a noticeable (bloat) bump and am finding it tough as I still don't feel like I'm growing a tiny human. Last time I would touch my bump and sometimes talk to baby, but I don't feel able to do that yet this time. I really didn't want to have to get any maternity clothes out for another few weeks but not sure I can avoid it too much longer [comfused].

Whatsername17 · 19/02/2017 07:51

Congratulations Lucky! Xx

INeedNewShoes · 19/02/2017 08:03

Congratulations Lucky Smile

Legend - waiting until 9 weeks might not be a bad thing anyway. If you have a scan at 9 weeks that shows a heartbeat, the stats are pretty good for a successful pregnancy at that point.

I chose to wait until 10 weeks for my first scan this pregnancy because I didn't want to go through what I did on my previous pregnancy: scan at 6+2 only yolk sac seen; scan at 7+4 healthy heartbeat seen; scan at 11 weeks which showed baby had stopped growing just shy of 8 weeks.

I just thought, what's the point of risking putting myself through that again so I was determined to wait until at least 8 weeks for a first scan so that a heartbeat would definitely be seen if there was going to be one and I'd get a slightly more conclusive answer.

If your GP is a bit hopeless I'd stick with trying to see your midwife sooner rather than later as she is more likely to be sympathetic and get a scan sorted for you.

purpleviolet1 · 19/02/2017 08:33

It sounds like my midwife just fobbed me off then!!!

Gingerbreadmam · 19/02/2017 08:39

that's good to hear jpeg

im 10+2 today have a right belly on me, not that i didnt already but it looks bumpy to me now. dp assures me i look the same tho Confused frightening.

my sickness seems to have tailed off now. not that i had much anyway but not had any last few days.

still shattered on a night and sore boobs through day so hoping they're good signs.

AmyB1986 · 19/02/2017 09:48

Morning all!

I was talking to my gp about early scans and he said about the criteria. Here they scan early if you've had an mc within the last 6 months or if you're bleeding but not for reassurance. He said he would refer me for a scan but I don't want one until I'm 10 weeks. I booked myself a private scan for then on the 31st march if I get that far. The clinic I use the scans cost £40. My brother and sister in law are expecting twins they also used that clinic, they're brilliant and really understanding.

I woke up this morning with this sudden pang of terror! I don't know why, I was feeling ok yesterday. I really have no massively obvious pregnancy symptoms apart from peeing constantly, back ache and tiredness. Not been sleeping very well so I suppose that doesn't help with my mood either.

I want to sleep through this first trimester please 😫

INeedNewShoes · 19/02/2017 10:23

Purple - I think the problem is that it varies by area, health trust and really is down to the individual member of staff too.

SayItIsntSo1 · 19/02/2017 11:27

Purple I would second that it is dependent on area. When I spoke to my GP he was out of his depth and referred me to the midwife straight away. That was after the receptionists had said I couldn't get in with the midwife and needed to talk to the GP Hmm. They're all frustratingly different.

oliversmummy26 · 19/02/2017 18:06

Good evening all, had a bit of a scare this morning, when I stood up out of bed I could feel something coming out like blood when a period starts...went to the loo and I had bright red blood on my pants and more when I wiped.
In a blind panic DH and I decided to go for a private scan, no EPU on a Sunday, I tried. It meant a 4 hour round trip to the nearest clinic open on a Sunday. But saw baby and a heartbeat and for some more pictures. No reason for the bleed and sonographer managed to check my cervix which was closed.
All well I thought!
Then get home and more red blood when I wiped, nothing on knickers, and a few stringy dark red snotty bits since..
I feel dreadful, sick and shaky, but not sure if that's pregnancy related or because I'm nervous.
I've been feeling what I think are stretching pains in my tummy for over a week, and am getting the odd twinge now, but nothing really painful...
DH and I did have sex 3 times yesterday Blush and I'm tempted to put it down to that (we really must stop!) but this is more than I've had after sex and I've not had any red this pregnancy at all until now.
I have an appointment with midwife tomorrow morning to have screening bloods taken so will speak to her tomorrow, but wanted to ask if anyone had anything similar? ginger I know you've had lots of bleeding, but did they ever find a reason for the bleed?

fuzzywuzzy · 19/02/2017 18:15

Oliversmummy try and rest out your feet up. I had unexplained bleed during the first six week of pregnancy. They never figured out why I bled.

My close friend had a bleed on and off till around twelve weeks, she was told it was due to a blood clot in her uterus which was slowly dissolving, eventually it got absorbed into the pregnancy and she is now overdue by a week.

jpeg28 · 19/02/2017 18:27

olivers sorry you've had such a tough day. The sex may be the cause... 3 times?! Wish I had your energy!! Wink I bled on and off until week 13 and no reason why, well I think it was a cyst that burst but they never confirmed. The fact that you saw a healthy little baby heartbeat is great. See what MW says. She may send you up to the EPU which would give you another peek at baby!

TheLegendOfBeans · 19/02/2017 20:50

Olivers that's so shocking and you must be terrified. One step at a time. Sending you so many good wishes xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Gingerbreadmam · 19/02/2017 21:32

hey oliver my first lot of bleeding was implantation and could be seen on scan. second lot was mostly spotting, some heavy but wasnt seen on scan but baby looked fine.

with my last pregnancy i had a red bleed and they couldnt see any reason for it.

i think it will be the dtd tbh. i would definitely hold off for a while. glad baby looked good and healthy. bleeding is dying down which is also a good thing.

grainmum · 20/02/2017 06:59

Hi oliver sorry you are having a tough time. Hope the midwife is reassuring today and that the bleeding is settling. Hello to the newcomers and congratulations on the babies!

SayItIsntSo1 · 20/02/2017 08:39

Olivers I doth my cap to you managing it 3 times in one day! DH and I haven't dtd once since we found out Confused. Need to up my game! hopefully your MW can advise you what's best and what it may be. It must be very scary, I don't know how you, Ginger and others have coped with the bleeding.

I am feeling ok so far this morning. Boobs are definitely getting less tender and haven't felt rough yet this morning. Still feel bloated and have a backache today. It's scary having days with less symptoms, I'm about 9 weeks today so wondering if it's just a phase and they'll come back soon... anyone experienced that?

Gingerbreadmam · 20/02/2017 09:17

im 10+3 and havent had any sickness for about the last 5 days. feel slightly nauseous this morning but not really.

my boobs dont tend to be as sensitive on a morning as they are on a night. by night time they're all veiny.

i havent dtd since bfp as i was told after mmc by mw not to do it until 12 weeks and then again this time not to do it if you have had bleeding.
