I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Blondes, I'm thrilled for you! A little girl! That does make it more real, it's very exciting. Sorry about the voms though.

fourcorneredcircle · 28/11/2016 22:20

Lovely scan picture blondes Smile

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/11/2016 23:08

I knew I would be sick. It's weird that I can eat food and have days of no sickness , tho also bad days - but doesn't make any diff what I eat

But drinks Re diff

I only ever drink water and last few weeks the odd black tea. Anything else will come back later 100% guaranteed

Glad my daughter 😱💓💓💓 turned for measurements and obv to known sex but wish had done it without oj

Was so sick in hospital at scan loo that I ended up puking odd red tinged stuff - obv where throat had got sore. But fine now and I wasn't sick after all the oj had appeared

peaceloveandbiscuits · 28/11/2016 23:10

OJ is horrible to be sick on, but worse than that is a satsuma, as I discovered to my horror last week.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/11/2016 04:44

A satsuma sounds innocent 😛😛

Small and juicy

Rice is still the worst thing to be sick with

I avoid at all counts as don't know if going to be sick that day

user1477229112 · 29/11/2016 07:21

Congratulations blondes
Brilliant news on your pink bundle ! Also oj acid omg awful coming back up

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/11/2016 08:09

I can barely move after taking one tablet last night. I'm too embarrassed to ask the doctor for anything else Sad I guess I'm doomed to be sick.

MotherofPearl · 29/11/2016 09:22

Peace, I'm sorry to hear the promethazine has knocked you out, and seemingly no good. Sometimes it's worth keeping on with new meds for a few days, both so that they have a chance to build up in your system and hopefully become effective, and so that you have the chance to become habituated to the side effects like drowsiness, as these can ease with time. As for feeling embarrassed to ask to try something different, I think it's really terrible that your GP has made you feel it's embarrassing to get effective treatment. He should be supporting you in a treatment plan, not making you feel embarrassed.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/11/2016 10:05

It's not the doctor, I just feel too embarrassed to ask for anything else when I've only had the two options for a few days/one day each. It took me a month to work up the courage to ask for something else after cyclizine! Do you really get acclimatised to the sedation or does it just knock you out more?

LightTripper · 29/11/2016 10:06

Hi peace - just to second what MoP said, it may be worth persevering with the promethazine just for a day or two to see if the tiredness starts to resolve itself. I remember when I first started taking cyclizine it made me really spacey but it didn't last too long. But only you can judge how bad you feel!

Otherwise definitely do go back and see if they can try something else: I took metoclopramide and found that good and it didn't have any bad side-effects for me. They seem to be willing usually to try that before Ondansetron, so might be a good one to try.

I know it's hard to go back but don't give up - it would be a shame to suffer more than you have to.

And waves excitedly to blondes - a girl!!! Sorry about the OJ incident. Although I can imagine a satsuma is even worse (skins .... yick).

fourcorneredcircle · 29/11/2016 10:13

I was really spaced out on cyclazine for about the first week. Then I got used to it. On days where I vomit a lot I feel very sleepy and often need a nap... but I think that's as much my body being shattered from the huge vomit effort as anything else.

babyand · 29/11/2016 16:45

Its very quiet here never know if that's good or bad. Have an early scan on Thursday night I'll be 10+6. My official scan is 10 days after that but as we have a family wedding next week I'd rather be out in ye open by then so people don't keep asking are you sick? Are you pregnant?

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/11/2016 17:12

I've been a zombie all day, poor DS is so fed up.

fourcorneredcircle · 29/11/2016 18:25

Poor peace :( I hope that you get used to the meds soon. It's rotten to have to go through zombie status before they work.

I've felt quite well today apart from the usual first thing vomit and a couple of nauseous moments when certain smells have wafted past!

I'm feeling so brave that I'm going to attempt the cinema tonight because I'm desperate to see Fantastic Beasts. I'm also going to 'phone the head tomorrow and talk about going back to work on Monday.

Friday was such a bad day... but I've felt better and better since... is this the magic of coming towards the end of the first trimester?! Hope so!!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/11/2016 20:21

Well I haven't been sick all day or even felt nauseous, and I've just eaten half a takeaway pizza. Long live the anti-emetic!

I will stick with it for a few days and see if I do get over the drowsiness. I've got my repeat scan tomorrow so hopefully it's not making the bean sleepy - I need him/her to be doing star jumps to get the nuchal measurement. Will attempt to drink a bottle of Lucozade beforehand.

MotherofPearl · 29/11/2016 22:19

Peace, I'm so glad that in spite of the drowsiness, you've had a better day in the sickness/nausea department. Hopefully the zombie effect will fade after a few days. Glad it's not your doctor making you feel embarrassed!

Four, brilliant to hear you're feeling so much better that you're even contemplating going back to work. I know Mother Hen Lucinda will want me to remind you not to overdo it too soon! How did the cinema go?

Baby, good idea to get that early scan in. Hope it goes well.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/11/2016 22:29

Peace. I think you need to allow medication to get into your body. Giving two only a day or so each to work I didn't think is long enough

Took 7/10days to get cyczline into my body

And good luck with scan. The only thing that moved bubs was orange juice - lots of people said about it and they were right

Tripper. Thanks. I am so omg I'm having a daughter - I even brought dinky shoes today as couldn't resist.

Babyand - just tell people you have hg. Some know what it is and others don't and enjoy wedding. You may be sick. I was about 5/6 times at the wedding I went to last month BUT I refuse to never go out

Four - Hope cinema was good - well done for getting out

Anyone seen lh. Hope she is ok

Cinema was a success. Ate an entire tube of pringles. Told DH that nibbling helps the nausea. Which it does... but perhaps not to that extent ;)

Head out at meetings until lunchtime... a few more hours until I have to tackle that one. My reasoning for going back is that most days I am sick first thing and as long as I nibble I'm okish. If I go back next week due to exams and various school events I'll only have to teach a few days over the next fortnight whereas in January the start of a new term is all go go go... easing myself in (and then out again over Christmas!) gently.

LightTripper · 30/11/2016 11:35

So glad the drugs seem to be kicking in peace - fingers crossed the zombie side effects lift too.

Gorgeous shoes Blondes! My only slight sadness about having a boy this time is the clothes aren't quite as cute (though they are still pretty cute!)

Glad the cinema was a success four - hopefully you're really turning a corner now! Sounds like a test run at work before Christmas is a good idea to make the New Year less intimidating - and if it makes you sick again presumably you could get signed off again if need be?

Sneezypeasy · 30/11/2016 12:30

Hi Everyone, sorry I have been a bit quiet lately.

Congratulations on scans blondes and four and good luck with the early scan babyand

Glad your medication is working peace, I hope the drowsiness wears off soon.

Four - great news that you made it to cinema and are thinking about going back to work, gradual return is definitely the way to do it if you can, so going in this term sounds sensible.

Waves to everyone else - hope you are all having a good week?

I rested on Saturday and managed to break the cycle of vomiting and have slowly been getting better.

Still in bed most of the day, but able to sit up more, get up with less effort and crucially also eat more. Having about 5 mini meals a day and actually having some food in me is really making a difference.

Keeping my fingers crossed that I am over the worst of it now, in my previous pregnancy I made a slow but full recovery between 12 and 20ish weeks, hoping it will be the same this time (though aware that it can be worse second time around).

CastleFeck · 30/11/2016 13:15

Sneezy great news you're feeling a bit better.

Blondes awh a daughter congratulations!

Four sounds like you're doing really well.

Hi everyone else.

I'm finally 20weeks today, whoop! Scan tomorrow, feeling a bit nervous but mostly excited. Dh hasn't seen the baby yet so I'm looking forward to his reaction.

fourcorneredcircle · 30/11/2016 15:33

I love my job right now. Spoke to the head and he was so kind, offered way more than I was going to ask for in regards to phased return before I'd even made my requests (basically I was only going to try and be a bit of a hero and just ask for TA for all KS3 classes and the nearby cleaning cupboard key in case I had to run away quickly Grin) it's left me flabbergasted. And feeling so appreciated.

babyand · 30/11/2016 15:57

After a few good days I'm suffering hard today!! All kinds of sad today :(

LightTripper · 30/11/2016 16:39

That's brilliant four - yay for your head!! I'm sure that greatly increases the chances of it not pushing you into a relapse, so it's very sensible planning too.

Sorry to hear you are having a bad day babyand: sometimes it's even worse after a run of good ones isn't it? Please don't let your hope be crushed. If you've had a run of good days chances are there will be more and soon: hopefully this is just a blip.
