I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Sorry you weren't as lucky with vomit blondes Xmas Sad

LucindaE · 26/12/2016 08:47

Blondes Sorry to hear of lost Christmas dinner; salad cream? chutney? Aagh! You are brave!
fourcorneredcircle So happy you got a day off from Bile Run or any puking at all.
MamaErmintrude and everyone - I hope you had a reasonable day.

Profiteroles four you lucky thing. Glad they stayed down.

Blondes sometimes there's nothing better than plain old cheese on crackers. Saying that, the in-laws broke out some extremely oozy smelly cheese for after Christmas dinner and it was all I could do to not breathe in the smell... horrendous!

I made and ate a curry for dinner tonight (Boxing day, different time zone) which I couldn't have even contemplated a few weeks ago. We were on pasta and sauce courtesy of DH. So that's an improvement.

Lucinda I always appreciate your wise words on this thread, just a note of appreciation.

I'm going to have to try and get my hands on some pear drops now...

Pastiemaid · 26/12/2016 11:23

Merry Christmas for yesterday everyone, sorry to hear that people suffered on the day.

Sorry to hear of your hospital admittance so close to Xmas haich! To get rid of the bad sickness taste I use peppermint soft mints and polos.

I cannot recommend steroids enough! A week ago I was admitted to hospital and yesterday I had a rather large Xmas dinner. I could have wept with joy haha. I'm off them from today, s9 letß see if they've done their magic for the rest of the pregnancy Hmm

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/12/2016 14:36

it really makes no diff if i eat bland plain brown stuff or something yummy, i will be sick if going to be sick iyswim

so stopped eating bland stuff and started to enjoy food, yes sometimes /often Wink it reappears but other times stays down

may have cheese/crackers/salad cream/chutney for tea - was yummy :)

hope all is well with others :)

LucindaE · 26/12/2016 19:43

CaptainWarbeck Thank you for kind words. I swore by old fashioned barley sugar, but it is difficult to get hold of sometimes. Different time zone? Where are you based?
Pastiemaid That sounds good - those who have been treated with steroids do say that they help amazingly.
Blondes That is a very sensible attitude Smile.
Waves to all.

Merry Christmas everyone.
Glad some managed to keep Christmas dinner, and sorry to hear some didn't.

I managed to keep mine down, but did have to eat it cold due to poorly daughter needing mummy at the key moment. Sometimes i wonder if we are mad to be doing this again?!

Been a bit worse today, but suspect that's not been helped by sleep deprivation (daughter up a lot).

I have my 20 week scan in the 1st week of January. So that's a nice thing to look forward too. Baby has also been very active the past few days which has been nice and reassuring. :)

waves to everyone. And merry Christmas wishes. Xxx

Southlondon321 · 27/12/2016 01:17

Merry Christmas everyone. Sorry for absence, working last week was really hectic and exhausting. Then we were in a rush for midwife appointment and then getting to in laws (Dorset) on 23rd then after a rather hectic in-law Xmas eve (husbands parents, nan, 5 siblings, their partners/husbands/wives and the 10 (!!!!) nieces and nephews we dashed to my parents in Warwickshire and had Xmas with my 2 siblings, parents, gran, 2cousins, aunt and partner!! So this is the first time I've looked at my phone properly. Very very late for bed but have terrible heartburn so trying to get comfy. As of an hour ago I'm 17 weeks preg. 2 weeks on 3 x cyclizine, 1 x metrochloprchlopromide & 2 x ranitidine a day. I have to say this is my magic cocktail. Had moments of feeling rough and it took over a week to settle in my system but havnt been sick for 7 days now, nausea much less (although the strangest moments when you have forgotten how intense and dizzy it can be) and I've had Xmas dinner!!!! Today I had a (very small, many items excluded) cooked breakfast, (gluten free) m&s party food nibbles, mince pie, bit of Xmas ham and some cheese and (gf) crackers. The cheese is what has done me in heartburn-wise. I've found a few ways to be inventive about festive drinks whilst everyone around me consuming bottles of prosecco, rum, advocat and ale.... ive had jealousy and more importantly ice, orange juice & soda as well as ice, lime, mint and (any!!) posh cordial with water or lemonade.

Apple squash (Tescos own - pretending to be healthy) has been a lifesaver and has made the difference getting my tablets down.

I felt totally weird after a hot bath today but recovered thankfully without being sick.

As I'm 17 weeks I just don't know if it is the magic cocktail or hormones helping - maybe both. Should I be looking to reduce meds? If so, which? I feel more tempted to cut out lunch time cyclizine of all of the doses. Or shall I keep going for a fortnight to make sure hormones can take over?

I remembered that the other day (Thursday?) I thought of you all as had a normal pregnancy symptom where my bump was stretching and it was quite painful. I thought it was so weird to have something normal happen for a change!!!

Trying to think of other news... I think I've lost 2.5kg. I'm not going to be worried because who wouldn't when so sick?!? Also got a doppler which is nice to check in with her. Getting lots of flutterings (early I know but I tuned into them when lying in bed constantly for two weeks!!) although I feel she is mostly on my right hand side! Sounds weird but I've thought it for ages now.

I'm so sorry that we have to welcome new people to our (un-fun) group. North London we can moan about horrid commutes, asking for seats and knob-head colleagues together!

Hope everyone ok. Sorry for long message!!! X

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/12/2016 07:59

South. I advise staying on medication for a few weeks and if still not sick to cut down slowly

I have sick days on and off. Xmas dinner lost but had amazing cold meat mash and cheese yesterday and bloody yummy and kept down

But I stick to 3 cyczline day as if have 2, a day or so later I'm ill and takes a few days to get back in my system

I hate being sick - tho do it with style 😂 But does reassure me bubs is ok

Southlondon321 · 27/12/2016 10:25

Thanks for the tip. I'll stay on a while longer. I know it's weird to be wanting to cut down when only just feeling better but it's all the non-sickness ginger pushers who are so negative about meds it really messes with your mind!!

Other symptoms I have had are headaches and general fatigue - yesterday morning I had a bad one but nothing as bad as ondansetron headaches!!!!

Hope you are all well x

CaptainWarbeck · 27/12/2016 10:50

South and blondes following your discussion with interest re medication... I've been thinking about cutting down because the tiredness from the meds is getting debilitating - can't go out for long in the afternoon before needing to crash, needing a long nap each day, generally feeling exhausted at all times etc.

I'm not feeling sick any more, which is great, but I'm a bit scared to cut down in case that returns. I'm 14 weeks, so thinking the sickness will be better anyway and the tiredness from generally being pregnant should be less too. Don't know what to do.

Chatted to two relatives on DH's side yesterday who were very vocal about not feeling sick or tired at all in their pregnancies... aaaaaaahhhhhh Envy

Southlondon321 · 27/12/2016 11:17

Captain, I swear I don't know any real life people who had sickness. A couple felt nauseous for a couple of weeks... our experience is so alien to them.

Fatigue/tiredness etc is really the worst thing. I totally agree. Although felt like that but worseqhwn being sick. What tablets are you on?

At 14 weeks I wasn't settled on meds, had dehydration and managed to catch a stupid tummy bug so was still being sick but I now know I would have been more settled on this cocktail then and had a bit more time to feel better

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 27/12/2016 11:48

I'll add my advice to stay on the medication too! I tried to reduce my dose a few weeks ago (at about the same gestation as you) but was very ill a few days later and it look me a couple of weeks to get back on track once I upped them again.
I know how tempting it is though. Xx

CaptainWarbeck · 27/12/2016 13:15

Okay both I think I know you're right. It's still early days and feeling tired is better than feeling sick although it's a bit rubbish. Don't want to endure any more days of feeling like I used to with the terrible nausea and not eating.

I'm on max doses of metoclopramide, stematil and ondansetron, although I think it's the first two that are the tiredness culprits.

fourcorneredcircle · 27/12/2016 14:23

I love that "Ginger Pushers" has become an actual phrase!

In laws left this morning. DH and I are enjoying a day on the sofa with the cats watching all the festive TV that his parents disapprove of. Looking forward to next year when baby is here - hoping baby will be an excellent reason to have some more control over Christmas as us being the hosts, in our own home, having funded the whole shebnang aren't enough to give us any rights as yet!

The bile runs are back, but it's so nice to have DH home to look after me and be sympathetic. Still taking my cyclizine here. Because Christmas has messed with my days a bit I've really known about it when I'm late/miss a dose. I thought the nausea was debilitating when it came yesterday... I'd forgotten how much the meds take the edge off. DON'T CUT BACK CAPATAIN!!!

LucindaE · 27/12/2016 17:24

CaptainWarbeck I so agree with the advice - everyone on here finds that the best thing to do is to cut back later rather than sooner and s-l-o-w-l-y.
I'm so happy you are feeling better, though.
IAmSerious I'll say in advance, Good luck for scan! Poor you, and poor DD, with her being ill at Christmas.
SouthLondon
You entertained how many people?!!! You rushed up to Warwickshire to be in a party with how many more?!!! Mother Hen says you are overdoing it and flaps and clucks. I would find that an exhausting schedule when not convalescent from Hyperemesis.
Blondes It is very true, you are indeed Sick with Style, and when wearing a most becoming spotted dress.
fourcorneredcircle The expression Ginger Pushers is so apt, congratulations on inventing it. Sorry to hear the dreaded Bile Runs are back.
Waves to all. Apologies if I've discourteously ignored anyone.

OP posts:
Southlondon321 · 27/12/2016 20:17

Def overdone it. Exhausted to say the least. I find it hard to not pack too much stuff in, even when not 100% but we have decided that there is no way we could do all of this with a baby in tow!
Hope everyone is ok and medicated!! Xxx

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/12/2016 21:40

I try my best Lucinda 'bows'

Another sick free day :)

Bubs is active in eve and quiet daytime / need to shift her internal clock 😂

Melleebacca · 28/12/2016 05:33

Hi All.

I'm back. Again. DD is a gorgeous 14 month old and fills our days with so much joy that I somehow thought I could handle HG one more time.

Got pregnant first go (ah what!?!) after DD gave up breastfeeding. No period and no clue of how far along I am. Got a BFP on the 22nd, as I had been feeling nauseous for a couple of days. Nausea keeps ramping up with no vomiting yet (touch wood), but I have done a fair bit of retching today. Guessing I'm 6weeks along with a EDD sometime in late August.

Currently lying on the sofa questioning our decision as I try and keep dinner (plain bread rolls) from coming up.

I remember this forum really helped the last time around, so looking forward to the support and wisdom this time.

MotherofPearl · 28/12/2016 09:11

Mellee, welcome back and congratulations on the BFP. I remember you from last time of course. Have you considered getting pre-emptive meds? Some people reckon starting on a combination of cyclizine and B6 can stave off the sickness setting in too badly. Perhaps something to consider? Also stocking up on whatever food and drink helped last time.
Blondes, sounds like you're going through a better patch with another sick-free day.
South, really hope you're getting some rest after all the festivities.
Four, make the most of your DH being around to pamper you.
Waves to Lucinda and everyone.

Southlondon321 · 28/12/2016 10:47

Quick question, do you guys drive even though on meds? X

LucindaE · 28/12/2016 10:49

Melleebacca Welcome back. I remember you very well. Very brave of you to go for it a second time, and it will, of course, be worth it - I've never heard any of the women on here who went for it a second time say otherwise - though in the first tri, I think they all questioned the wisdom of the decision.
I so agree with MotherofPearl about pre-emptive meds. What were you on last time? As a veteran, just in case, I am sure you have some of those kesostix lurking in readiness; I hope you escape anything worse than normal nasty pregnancy sickness, but I gather that research shows that there's a neurological reason why once a pattern of vomiting has been established, the brain cannot easily 'switch it off' which is why doctors are now more inclined to medicate before that point is reached.
As ever, everyone on here is very supportive.
Blondes Can you do a bow well into pregnancy as well as having good bladder control? That would be what youngsters may still call 'so not fair'!
I hope everyone is getting by today. I must unearth the due dates list, which is definitely on this thread.

Hello melleebacca, pull up a comfy chair :)

south I didn't drive for about the first six weeks of medication. I couldn't reliably operate a kettle or remote control without forgetting what I was trying to do! Then I took a few short drives (a couple of miles) to supermarket, post office, doctors. Then I went straight in to a drive to work (about an hour of a-roads and twisty country roads). That was really hard, I had to ask my mum and DH to drive when I had A few mornings in as the AM was tough. I love to drive normally, I'm always the driver on long trips with family etc. but I dunno even though I'm not struggling to concentrate or organise my movements like I was in october/November, i seem to be able to make myself car sick now! Phased return in Jan, have to see how I get on.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 28/12/2016 11:09

Hello all, hope you've had more or less sick-free christmases and managed to keep some dinner down? I've been sick 3/4 times in all since I last wrote, yesterday absolutely spectacularly up the garden path Xmas Envy poor DH had to flush it away while I finished off in the kitchen sink. Almost 18 weeks now. Glad not to be sick every day anymore, but still carrying Co Op sandwich bags around with me in case of surprises such as these Xmas Sad
