I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi NorthLondon,

You are certainly not alone in feeling fed up. We all do from time to time, so rant away!

I know what you mean about feeing 'useless' just to try cut yourself some slack and remember that whatever you do manage to do is a massive achievement when you are feeing so rough.

And yes to the Meds- I would not have got this far without them. I'm on a real cocktail now. They have meant I can work, and am more involved with my 14m old. Which in turn has improved my mood. I hope they do the same for you. What were you prescribed? Xx

LucindaE · 22/12/2016 20:12

NorthLondonmum84 Welcome. Much sympathy. What you feel, as IAmSeriousAndDon'tCallMeShirley says, is all too typical. You mustn't blame yourself. Your LO will forget this period of comparative neglect very quickly and have a sibling, and what better present? Sorry you are suffering badly fairly late on. No wonder you are fed up. I hope it has improved since the first tri? Like Shirley I wonder what meds you are on? Have they tried several? Sorry work has been awful.
Blondes Ah, I've heard that about a placenta in that position. So glad you 've had that lovely experience at last.
fourcorneredcircle Sorry to hear of Envy day and headache, but it's nice your friend was sympathetic, anyway!
BabyandOh no! Poor you! I do hope you get over it soon and the meds help with the Hyperemesis.
IAmSeriousAndDon'tCallMeShirley Great advice. How are things? I am in awe of people with this, and toddlers, and work...My goodness.

Lucinda I'm doing better than earlier in the week thank you. :)
Although nothing to be in awe of I can assure you, I feel like I'm coasting at best...
My daughter is in a really clingy phase where she only really wants to play with me and cries when I leave the room. In some ways very sweet, but hard when feeling exhausted.
I am finished in work now for Christmas- so off to the inlaws tomorrow. My MIL is wonderful and will go above and behind to look after me. I'm very lucky!

How are you doing? All set for the big day?
Your advice to everyone is spot on and lovely as always. Xxx

NorthLondonmum83 · 23/12/2016 09:14

Thanks all for the advice and reassurance! Hope you're all feeling ok today and that Christmas preparations don't feel too daunting. Have also finished work now until NY thanks goodness.
I've been prescribed Cyclizine and making a start on it today! I think the us us generally the
I'm still smarting slightly from the 'but isn't it just morning sickness...?'from a colleague earlier in the week after I took two days off and couldn't even keep water down!

CaptainWarbeck · 23/12/2016 10:33

Exciting about first proper kicks blondes

North I could have written your post a few weeks ago... It's hard to be kind to yourself when you're in the thick of it but with the benefit of hindsight, I'd tell myself and you that you're doing an amazing job, you're growing a human and for some reason it's even harder for you than most people but it WILL get better and each day done is a day you don't have to do again. Your DC and DH will both understand and you just need to cut yourself some slack. It's bloody hard!

I've been feeling a bit better lately , I took a previous poster's advice and started ticking off the days with red/orange/green pen depending on the day I'd had. It really helped and got me to see the overall trend was toward improvement despite having a few bad days. I just ticked off my third green day in about a week which feels good. I think coming out of first tri has helped, I'm 14 weeks now and still feeling tired and sleeping in the day but less nausea and haven't thrown up for yonks thank goodness.

Sorry for not being around the last few days, Christmas run up has felt like there's been a lot on. Hope everyone else is feeling even a little bit better.

NorthLondonmum83 · 23/12/2016 14:34

Captain I like the idea of ticking off days maybe I'll do that!

LucindaE · 23/12/2016 17:35

IAmSeriousAndDon'tCallMeShirley Thanks for lovely words. I am never properly organised at Christmas (or any other time)and no excuse of Hyperemesis...Glad things aren't too bad.
CaptainWarbeck So glad you are a bit better. Indeed, whoever thought of marking in and ticking off the days (as in a prison sentence) had a great idea. Sorry, don't remember who it was...It's great that at 14 weeks you haven't had any puking for a while.
NorthLondon83 Sorry to hear of colleague's insensitivity! Very annoying. This is no more like ordinary morning sickness than a migraine is like an ordinary headache. We have a SouthLondon on here, too and hopefully, you'll soon met up.
Waves to all. Very quiet on here. I hope a good sign.

Ugh. Bile.

Back to "normal" here. Bile first thing yesterday then nausea on/off all day until evening.

Bile first thing to day... presumably nausea on and off until evening again.

Hope others are feeling as ok as possible as we all head in to several days of forced festive jollity... if it helps I had a sudden realisation yesterday that if my assembled relatives get too much over the next few days I can legitimately take myself off to bed. Silver linings and all that Xmas Wink

LucindaE · 24/12/2016 11:08

fourcorneredcircle Sorry to hear of that dreaded Bile Run. Not the thing you need for festive cheer. Brave of you to act as hostess - a good idea to retreat to bed if it gets too much.
I hope everyone is able to avoid being admitted at least, over Christmas- and has as good a time as they can. As I have said, next year, you will all be the lucky ones, and this will be a distant nightmare...I want to say how much I admire you all for being so brave.

HaichM · 24/12/2016 16:39

I'm just being released from hosp now. Been in since Thurs eve and until an hour ago have had 4 ketones the whole time. I started with severe morning sickness and then it turned to hyperemesis on Weds when I couldn't keep anything down.

My sympathies four, I rode the bile train every morning with DS and visited it again for those two days this week an no doubt will again.

Anyone else have like a permanent bad taste in their mouths? Have been finding it really hard to drink because of it. The anti-sickness they've given me in hosp seems to keep the food down after some argument but we'll have to see how it works when I'm up and about more at home.

Nice to meet you all anyway. Have a great Christmas

MotherofPearl · 24/12/2016 18:23

Sorry for absence, wanted to wish everyone a Happy Christmas, and hope you manage to survive the day without feeling too awful. Just remember, this time next year you'll be ready to enjoy your baby's first Christmas, and your hyperemesis hell will hopefully be a dim and distant memory.

Cheery Christmas greetings to Lucinda, Light, Blondes, Four, Iam and everyone!

LucindaE · 24/12/2016 19:07

Welcome, HaichM and sorry you are suffering. I'm glad that you've been released in time for Christmas Day, anyway. What meds have they got you on? I hope whatever they have put you on, it prevents you getting really bad again, but it's always worth investing in kesostix (usually available from any chemists, but not tomorrow) to check. It's very quiet on here atm, but people are very supportive. What meds are you on?
MotherofPearl Lovely to hear from you anyway, and have a great Christmas.

LucindaE · 24/12/2016 19:09

HaichM On the bad taste, I did find that old fashioned barley sugar helped, but it can increase that excessive saliva. It's so tiresome! Some swear by palma (parma?) violets...

OP posts:
fourcorneredcircle · 24/12/2016 21:11

Bad luck Haich welcome to our exclusive club... you're among friends now. I find sucking fruit pastels helps the horrible mouth taste. Or sherbet lemons. Honestly, if I have any teeth left and the end of this pregnancy I'll be amazed!

Happy Christmas to all! Ice lollies and buckets all round!

Mummymulb16 · 24/12/2016 22:01

Sorry to all those suffering ! My hyperemesis is better now but I have excessive saliva and severe heartburn that makes me puke!i have been feeling really down the last two days is it possible to ask for an induction early I am

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 24/12/2016 23:22

Hi :) sorry I've been gone so long I lost my log in details. Wanted to check in and wish you a merry Christmas lucinda & MOP.
DS2 is now 7 months old and doing well.
Been remembering this time last year being in hospital miles away and alone for what seemed like a long time and how this year I've got my baby and Christmas at home with my sons.
I know how miserable you all must be feeling and wish you have as much as a nausea and vomit free day.
Hope your doing well mother hen & mop.
Lots of love and Christmas wishes,
ICant. Xxx

RobberBride · 25/12/2016 12:02

Merry Christmas to everyone on this thread. I hope today is kind to you all.

Especial big thanks to Lucinda and Mother for keeping us all going, and to Blondes for making me laugh - you do HG with style!

Now 18w and since recovering from the norovirus around 16w, I have felt much more human - it seemed to clear my system of everything. Still got horrible indigestion and have to be very careful about what/when I eat, but I wanted to give people some hope that sometimes there is some kind of late 2nd tri improvement.

Lots of Christmas wishes to you all.

MotherofPearl · 25/12/2016 12:49

Thanks Robber, although I've been rather conspicuous by my absence of late I'm afraid. Blush Merry Christmas to you, and so glad to hear of improvement!
Icant!!!! So great to hear from you, my old due date pal (I think we were maybe due a few days apart, but who's counting?!). Yours was one of the 2 or 3 very worst HG cases I've ever heard of, so it's wonderful to hear how well you sound now. Happy Christmas to you and both your DS.
Hope everyone else is having bearable Christmas days. We're at my PILs. I'm putting DD2 down for a sleep and then going downstairs to join the madness lunch.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/12/2016 13:05

Waves to all. Merry crimbo. We will have babies this time next year. Me a 9mth old - gulps

Sorry on phone so can't name tag

Horrible taste in mouth. Yes. Mainly gone now at 26w but described hg as a extreme hangover without headache

with stomach churning - queasy - and a taste like a. Monkey had shat in my mouth 😂😂

Still odd puke some days but think on home run

Have my dad round later. Lamb and turkey in oven and sitting chilling with water 😉

LightTripper · 25/12/2016 16:04

Hello all! Just popping on to say Merry Christmas and hope you are surviving it OK!

For bad taste I always found Pear drops quite good. Tesco do a lot of bags of different old fashioned sweets...

Merry Christmas all! LT xx

LucindaE · 25/12/2016 20:25

Mummymulb16 I am sure they can give you something for the heartburn - omprazole is one; that might well make things a lot more bearable? Or have they tried that already? I do know they do induce some people early. The saliva is miserable, too. Sorry you feel bad so late on.
Lighttripper Pear drops is a good idea.
fourcorneredcircle Lol about buckets and ice lollies, and Blondes lol about a monkey defecating...
Ican'tLovely to hear from you. Glad you and baby are fine and thinks for good wishes.
MotherofPearl It is very good to have you back, anyway!
Thanks to everyone for good wishes and I hope everyone has had a bearable day... Apologies if I've rudely overlooked anyone.
