I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ondansetron-users please help me....what do you find works best for the constipation?

I am going about once every three days. It's takes ages and is very painful and like stines. Can severe severe constipation hurt my baby in any way at all?

I am keeping liquid down now, so hydration is not the main concern.

Suppositories are the only thing that get something out.

I have tried:

  • MOvicol - makes the bloating so much worse and painful
  • Dulcoease - no longer helps and increases nausea the next day
  • Warm bath
  • Putting feet up on a stool
  • Squatting ON the loo seat (I know, I know)
  • Prunes and prune juice

It is becoming quite distressing - not least because I am already in maternity jeans due to my giant Poo baby.

Does anyone have any ideas? Does it genuinely return to normal after stopping or have I messed up my colon forever?

I am only 11 weeks and immediately go downhill if I am late with an Ondansetron dose so stopping is not yet an option.

Southlondon321 · 09/11/2016 11:44

Blondes I hope you are ok today. Good luck keeping it down.

Toilet seat falling on your head can be one of those stories for the future you might be able to laugh about ... one day. I've got a few experiences I am banking up that I hope will stop torturing me!

I live in London in a 2 bed flat... we just moved (6 weeks preg with severe sickness! Still living in boxes a bit!) before we had a 2 bed/2bath and kept litter tray in main bathroom. Trying to adjust to new life but when I tried to move it she just went in the bath!! Because flat so small smell travels far and fast....

Hope everyone has a good day! I escaped home without being sick today! Success!!!

fourcorneredcircle · 09/11/2016 11:51

No ideas for constipation I'm afraid LH ... I have the exact opposite Blush. Could you discuss with GP?

Welcome to our not so happy band robber, we do try and laugh through the bad stuff though by sharing many tales that we hope will be funny when we look back on them...

Hope you enjoy your pizza blondes - at least in one direction!

South totally sympathise on cat poo smell 😷

Who was it that said their nose bled when they vomit? Mines started too. Any suggestions about how to deal with that?

user1477229112 · 09/11/2016 12:02

I was advised on this page to get gycerol suppositories from any chemist for constipation I haven't had to use them just yet but I am advised they are safe and used in maternity hospitals.

I've got 2 plus ketones today and feeling proper rubbish so need to work on getting my food and fluid in. Does anyone know when you need admitted is it ketone 4?

LHReturns · 09/11/2016 12:13

Thanks user....so sorry you are suffering so much. Have you been admitted before? When I was with DS it really did help.

I am already using glycerin suppositories - this is how I do my rabbit pellets every three days. It is more the pain and bloating that I am suffering so much with. Like there is a year's worth still stuck up there.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 09/11/2016 12:40

How do you cope with the physical pain of being sick? My stomach is so sore all the time Sad

fourcorneredcircle · 09/11/2016 12:52

peace hot water bottle for sore stomach muscles really helps me (suggested by someone on here) it feels really comforting too

peaceloveandbiscuits · 09/11/2016 15:07

Oh that's a good idea, dunno why I didn't think of that.

babyand · 09/11/2016 15:46

Hi everyone
I'm here from the June 2017 board! I'm not sure I have hg but I have debilitating nausea. Got prescribed stemetil today only have taken one tablet so far. Does anyone know if it should work as soon as I take the first dose?
I'm currently in bed while dd is at her grandmothers and I have tears streaming down my face I feel so ill and so guilty I can't be with my dd

LightTripper · 09/11/2016 16:04

I haven't taken Stemetil babyand, but with most of them you need to take them regularly and let them build up over a couple of days to get the maximum effectiveness. Hopefully somebody will be along soon who has taken that as I know it's prescribed quite a lot!

Sorry you are here - it's so hard with a little one, feeling like you are being a rubbish mum isn't it? But sounds like you have good family support, and it isn't forever even if it sometimes feels like it. Hope the pills work for you - don't forget there are others you can try if it doesn't help. It seems to be very personal which pills help which people.

NerrSnerr · 09/11/2016 16:10

Hi baby. I take stemetil as well as cyclazine. I only take the stemetil when I'm bad or I really need to go out because although it stops me from actually throwing up it makes me feel really drunk and I can't do anything useful. It also makes me feel nauseous. It might not be like that for you though. I find sickness medications affect me quite harshly so hopefully it'll be better for you.

Southlondon321 · 09/11/2016 17:59

Baby hope you are feeling better. It's taken me a good two weeks to feel better. Sorry that's not great news to hear but the cyclizine is making a difference now on general levels of nausea. I'm starting to eat a bit better ... not just rice cakes and ribena. A few of us are June 17 so you are in good company. What's your due date? (Secretly hoping it's later than mine!!)

LHReturns · 09/11/2016 18:10

Hello babyand and warm welcome.

I know exactly how you feel about the guilt when not able to be a hands on mum while you deal with this.

I am now 11 weeks and just starting to come through the worst of Hyperemesis. Still drugged up to my eyeballs but it is becoming manageable. The last 6 weeks have been absolutely the worst of my life and I feel so much for you.

My toddler son has completely forgotten how rubbish I was for what felt like ages. I just don't think his memory works like this.

You are creating the greatest gift in the world for your DD - you are being a wonderful mother. Flowers

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/11/2016 18:44

south you need to def get a kitty poo litter tray all enclosed

lh- lactulose, so dont say for you as gp /chemists dont like giving to preg woman, but it is safe

some say aloe vera good for poo, it is rank and prob make you heave lol

user147, i thought 3 and over is hospital, i was often 2/2.5 so on lower limit but not higher enough

peace, the constant retching/sickness was hard and did pull on stomach muscles. dont think much you get do about it iyswim

welcome baby, seems harder on preg 2+, how old is dd and diff tablets take different times, im on cyczline and took prob a good 2/3w to get into my system but once in did help

all good with me, pizza stayed down :)

LucindaE · 09/11/2016 19:09

RobberBride Welcome. That's odd, I could have sworn I greeted you before and said that was my favorite Margaret Atwood novel name - sorry you are suffrering. As LightTripper says, those headaches could be a sign of dehydration, so do invest in some kesostix. As she also says, how are the liquids going down? Try 024 7638 2020 Pregnancy Sickness Support linked in the introduction above, to get advice about how to get meds. They will have to call you back, but they will and give invaluable advice. It is possible to have Hyperemesis without vomiting if the nausea is very bad.
babyandWelcome. Stemitil has really helped some on here, so give it a couple of days, but if it isn't helping, don't hesitate to ask for something else. Meanwhile do invest in some kesostix from any chemists to check on the early stages of dehydration. Your toddler honestly will forget very quickly and as others say, have a companion too.

NerrSnerr I am sorry to hear that stemitil makes you more nauseated- can they give you an alternative or do they insist you have worked your way through suitable meds?
User1477 Oh dear, those ketones re creeping up. Most hospitals will admit if you have ketones of 3+. Are no liquids staying down? Are ice cubes or ice lollies, or juice of tinned fruit no good?
fourcorners Those nose bleeds are horrible. I wish I could think of a treatment beyond the usual nose pinching and cold water on bridge of the nose thing.
LRreturns I think you can get prescription stuff for it, isn't Lactulose one of them? Sorry to hear that the suppositories are no good. One user on here did have recourse to a bowel rinsing out thing, but obviously you want to avoid that if you possibly can. I never heard that it can hurt the baby but it can make you feel dreadful. Much sympathy.
SouthLondon Ah, I see about the cat and the bathroom now.
JustHavin'ABreak I'm so glad to hear that you feel a lot better. Thirty-six hours of fluids is a lot, so it's so good you went in. What meds have they got you on?
Blondes I do hope you evaded that savage loo seat...
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.
Waves to all...

Thanks for the welcome Smile.

Blondes excellent work on the pizza! Though even the thought of pizza is making me feel dodgy. YY, this is so much like the worst hangover I ever had.

LH I can't advise on drugs for constipation. However - and really sorry if this is the constipation equivalent of saying 'have you tried ginger biscuits' - if you can stomach it have you tried kiwi fruit with the skin still on (just the knobbly end bits chopped off)? The legend Bip told me about them when I got totally blocked during fertility treatment, called them a 'toothbrush for the gut'. I was eating about four a day and they really helped me.

Lucinda did you hop onto one of the infertility threads at some point - maybe Failure stories? I think a PP there commented on the Atwood name. Or I have hopped on here once before when I was checking up on LH.

Thanks for asking about food and liquids. I have to eat little and often or the nausea becomes crippling, and the only foods I can consistently stomach are fresh melon, crunchy green apples, and peanut butter. I'm guessing the first two might be because of the hydration? Thanks to the calories in peanut butter I'm about the same weight as when I got pregnant. I am a bit worried that I'm not getting enough calcium, has anyone got a solution or are you ignoring calcium til you feel better?

I'm struggling to drink enough but just about managing to keep my urine a mid green. I can't cope with any hot drinks apart from a highly synthetic hot orange squash. I can't do fizzy drinks or milky drinks. I'm basically on orange squash and normal water. If the poor baby is ok, it'll be born looking like an Oompa Loompa...

My comedy moment today: I went to Boots and muttered to the guy at the pharmacy counter, 'I'm pregnant and I've got bad bloating'. He turned around and bellowed to the pharmacist, 'Can you come and advise a pregnant lady with trapped wind?' The entire queue looked mortified on my behalf. Fortunately I wasn't at the Boots where I usually bump into some colleagues!

LHReturns · 09/11/2016 21:10

Robber I haven't tried the kiwi with skin on and I WILL tomorrow! I assume the riper the kiwi the better? Thank you!!

Orange squash is my drink too.

Your pharmacy experience is pure horror. I am laughing Did you get anything good for your TRAPPED WIND from the pharmacist?? I have plenty along with my overdue poo baby.

babyand · 09/11/2016 21:26

Thank you everyone for your help! I'm really hoping stemetil gives me relief soon. With dd I was put on zofran and it worked a treat for 4-5 days then had no effect.

I can't remember who asked but someone asked my edd it's 23/06/17 and my dd will be 2 on 31/07/17

RobberBride · 09/11/2016 21:34

LH I went for ripe but still firm. That sounds so carry on!

The pharmacist was really helpful (guilt about his colleague?), he looked up a load of options and then recommended Windsetlers www.boots.com/en/WindSetlers-24-gel-caps_871198/. I had two immediately - by that point I'd lost all sense of shame - and by the time I walked out of the shop things were ahem, shifting. Still bloated but a lot less painful Grin.

Got to laugh at our moments or else we will cry. Plus we throw up anyway and some wet theirselves so may as well make the most of the moistness 😱😱😂😇

Course now I'm feeling fairly ok I now worry bubs isn't ok. Ahhhhh. This preg lark isn't easy. ESP after years of infertility

I'm 5th to give birth. Whoop

TwoDrifters · 10/11/2016 00:06

Sorry for my delayed reply but thank you so much Light and Mother for your shared experiences and honest thoughts! Still dithering over even the possibility of going through HG again, mostly being put off at the thought of missing months of MiniDrifter's young life Sad

Southlondon321 · 10/11/2016 08:43

Yay, I'm not the last on the list now. 9 weeks exactly today. I am really happy to say I feel MUCH better at the moment. I'm still ridiculously nauseous and exhausted but the cyclizine is really helping me control it. I haven't been sick for a week either. So because my tummy isn't being assaulted by my projectile it's feeling more normal and I'm able to eat more normal things. Very small improvements have made what feel like a big difference comparatively. Really suffering bloating but not wind, so its not going anywhere.

Big gratitude for all of your support so far.

Going to say to my husband about new litter tray as you have suggested as we are currently moving it in and out of the bathroom as I am using it so as to reduce turning my tummy. Yesterday I was coughing and it turned into a revolting gag and burp in the office, which I managed to keep down... my preg pal knows what I am going through and she was looking at me alarmed! I gave the 'I've got this' look proud I didn't vomit over my whole desk! The others were trying to politely ignore me. Haha.

Really hope everyone has a good day. Nearly at the end of the week!

Southlondon321 · 10/11/2016 08:44

By the way litter has no poos in it and is changed frequency but it's like association... I've transferred to just hating the litter so anything else makes it so much worse!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 10/11/2016 08:44

Finally giving in and going to the doctors this morning about my sickness. Haven't kept anything down for a couple of days and can't drink at all.
