Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Sorry to all you suffering I've been there and it does get better after the first trimester hang on in there and take all the meds you can!

I'm nearly 20 weeks now and so relived I'm half way there. I do feel sick in the mornings still and if I try something I'm not used or which makes me wonder if I have a really bad diet but I think it's better I keep something down then nothing!

Hang in there everyone and hope you all start feeling better soon xxFlowers

Southlondon321 · 06/11/2016 21:41

I had another acupuncture session today. I really recommend it. Felt so relaxed and calm afterwards. We went to a pub for lunch (i had less than half!) and a lemonade but it felt like a miracle day. Feel really sick now but had some chocolate and think it was probably that more than anything. My husband blitzed our home yesterday whilst I was at my friends (eating emergency crisps and complaining about being pregnant. She isn't sick but she has twins in there!!) which was so nice to come back to. Also I've changed my hair stuff (leave in conditioner/heat protect) so trying to eliminate the things with smells I hate for no reason. Slept a ridiculous 12 hours Friday to Saturday and that helped too. I'm concerned work stress is exasperating things so going to try and explore that this week IF I am well enough to be distracted my mental self exploration (sorry in advance I am a person centred counselling type with a (failure) journey of mindfulness).

Hope everyone had an OK weekend. Fingers crossed for a good week ahead. I'm going to dose up on cyclizine now....

Southlondon321 · 06/11/2016 21:42

Sorry guys, once I post all the messages have come up! I'll try and read on the commute tomorrow. Hope those who have bad weekends are in bed now dosed up.

LHReturns · 06/11/2016 21:52

South you have had a good weekend - well done! Jealous about the chocolate. I can't do that yet.

Really keep on top of your rest and sleep. The quickest way to a surprise vomiting session for me is getting even slightly over tired.

RaeSkywalker · 07/11/2016 02:58

Hello all. Firstly, apologies for my silence. I finished work on Friday. Spent the weekend before flat out working for a presentation on Tuesday. Was feeling exhausted and very sick, so didn't get a chance to check in.

Anyway, I left work on Friday at midday. Baby Skywalker was born on Saturday morning, the 5th of November, just before 8am. He was 15 days early, and he is totally, utterly perfect. He's in SCBU at the moment, so things have been scary, but we hope to be home soon.

So, I finally made it to the pink castle! This thread has been a lifeline for me. Thank you to you all- particularly Lucinda and MOP for their unending support. Lucinda, you are wonderful. Thank you also to SpecialStains.

For those still in the throes of HG- I will be thinking of you all. There are so many amazing, strong women on this thread. I hope you all get through this very soon.

JustHavinABreak · 07/11/2016 03:36

Oh God...I realise that HG can't kill me but I think it's trying. It's 3.30am and I can't sleep because I'm too busy throwing up. I haven't kept anything down in days and my ketones are at +4. Throbbing migraine too. Just can't cope with this anymore. HG on all 3 pregnancies but symptoms disappeared on this one at about 20 weeks only to return at 27 weeks. Now 30 and seriously just ready to give up

happydays00 · 07/11/2016 06:12

rae CONGRATULATIONS!!! What a surprise! What a trooper you were - working right until the very end too! FlowersFlowers hope you are finally feeling better!

justhavin are you on meds? If your ketones are 4+ you are in need of some hydration ASAP. Get yourself to the GP / hospital this morning!

JustHavinABreak · 07/11/2016 06:24

I was happydays00 but not anymore as it seemed to ease. It's been a really complicated pregnancy because of several things but now I'm actually scared to go into the hospital. I know I need fluids and pain relief but I feel like a nuisance. This sounds really odd if you don't know my case. Maybe the dehydration is clouding my judgement. In hindsight I can always see my thinking is a bit messed up when the vomiting leads to severe dehydration. I'm sorry. I'm rambling.

JustHavinABreak · 07/11/2016 06:25

But thank you for responding. It's been a horrible night

LHReturns · 07/11/2016 07:06

Rae so many congratulations- what lovely news to wake to!! Enjoy this special time and hope the sickness has disappeared instantly. Also hope Baby Rae leaves SIBU quickly and healthily. How to maximise your maternity leave with your baby!!

JustHavin - you sound so down, I'm so sorry to hear this. I too get confused and show poor judgement when I get very dehydrated. Throwing up at 3.30am is the loneliest place in the world. Sending you warmth and support.

It sounds to me that you need urgent help - and if that isn't hospital, can you start meds again? You need some way to get liquid inside you.

Please keep updating us.

SleepymrsE · 07/11/2016 07:52

Huge huge congratulations rae, so pleased for you. Welcome to the pink castle. You made it! Hope the sickness has disappeared for you now and that you are able to enjoy your wonderful DS (at least he didn't keep you hanging on until the very end!)

SleepymrsE · 07/11/2016 07:54

Ps hope baby is out of SCBU soon & you get to go home to fully enjoy life as a new mummy.

Southlondon321 · 07/11/2016 08:58

Haven't been able to catch up on the thread as journey has been all kinds of torture... only travelled a mile so far. I really don't know how to cope getting to work.

Congrats Rae, I really hope baby is out of the unit soon and home where you all should be. How are you feeling?

Sorry to those unwell last night. There is nothing worse. Get to doc or hosp. It's another level of pressure when you have had complications but ultimately you and baby need to be looked after. It's why we pay taxes for NHS afterall!

Can someone please tell the man coughing next to me he needs to move!!!!!

Southlondon321 · 07/11/2016 09:00

good weekend now forgotten .....

Oklahoma · 07/11/2016 09:18

Morning all (hi Lucinda and other old timers).

Oklette just turned 2 and we're thinking of having another one but after the horrors of last time I'm feeling pretty apprehensive. Gulp.

It's not as bad as I remember right?

CastleFeck · 07/11/2016 10:11

Huge congratulations Rae, hope your little boy is home v soon.

Justhaving, please go get some iv fluids and drugs to stop the vomiting. You need them and deserve them.

Hi everyone else, wishing you nausea free Monday's.

TwoDrifters · 07/11/2016 12:23

Hi Oklahoma my little one will be 1 soon, and since I'm no spring chicken, we are pondering on whether to try for #2 ASAP but I'm having the same apprehensions as you!

I may need some counselling first to give me the mental strength. And I wonder whether it would help if I took meds earlier next time? Last time I was so worried about the baby's development that I insisted on waiting until after week 12 before I would take anything (first baby!)

I remember wanting to die in about week 15, despite being on cyclizine by then.

Sorry if I'm not helping!

Hello to all! And massive congratulations to Rae

icklekid · 07/11/2016 12:44

Huge congratulations rae remember you from when I was in the worst stages- am so pleased you've made it to the castle! Hope baby is out of hospital really soon. 14 days early so at least that's 14 days less of hg. Take care I'm sure he is worth it and you will get cuddles really soon if not already!

Southlondon321 · 07/11/2016 12:44

Hi all, quick question - what is the most amount of cyclizine you have been prescribed at any one time? As in doses... I take 3 a day so I'm planning to ask for a months worth ... is this realistic? Going in tomorrow morning and have flu jab too. Thanking you in advance

MotherofPearl · 07/11/2016 12:56

Just nipping in to say huge congratulations to Rae! I'm so pleased that you have been freed from HG hell and that your lovely DS has arrived. Enjoy every second! Flowers
Will be back for a proper catch up later with everyone.

JustHavinABreak · 07/11/2016 13:01

Thank you so much for your kindness and encouragement. I came into hospital a few hours ago and I'm on iv fluids now. Really thought I was cracking up this morning but you made it less lonely.

LucindaE · 07/11/2016 13:29

Ooh, missed on much drama. Thank goodness happydays00 was on hand to give comfort. JustHavinABreak Welcome. I am sorry sorry you suffered so horribly last night, so late on in your pregnancy. It's horrible to have to have been admitted at thirty weeks, and I hope you're feeling a lot better now. What meds are you on? When really dehydrated,as you were at 4+ ketones, it is common to become so confused that you think it isn't anything really, though obviously you are very ill! Sorry symptoms disappeared only to return.
RaeSkywalker Oh, lovely! I wondered if you had good news early.
Smile FlowersCake Chocolate and maybe, soon, just one glass of Wine. You were always a star Star on this thread. We'll really miss you!
I'm so glad it helped you.
SouthLondon I so agree about Acupuncture. It really helped me when I was dehydrated after the GP refused meds, but I was very lucky in that I think a tinieth fraction of space makes a huge difference to the effectiveness of it, and the Acunpuncturist I had seemed to get the exact spot. It doesn't seem to help many so dramatically . I so agree about the relaxation too. That sounds really miserable. Sorry you had a foul journey. Can they add meds? Remind me what you are on.
Ah, so we can hope to have Oklahoma and TwoDrifters on. I say do as I do, don't do as I did, and if you can possibly stand it, it's always worth it to go for a second as a sibling is such a gift for a child. Obviously, not everyone feels like that, and it's so important to have childcare arrangements in place and to be able to get pre-emptive meds. Lovely to hear from you both.
mummymulb Lovely to hear from you too. I am glad it is so much more manageable, but nausea still first thing is miserable.
LHReturns I so agree about tiredness...Of course, you're not a crazy dog lady, just fond of canines!
SleepymrsE lovely to hear from you, too.
castlefeck blondes and everyone - I hope coping today. Apologies to anyone rudely ignored. I must post this long post...Watch me cross post, too...

@lucinda I'm on cyclizine- do you know the most I can ask for from doc tomorrow?

LucindaE · 07/11/2016 14:52

SouthLondon I wish I knew the answer, but don't. I hope somebody would be able to advise you. Hope you've recovered from the awful journey.
