I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks for the tip about hot water bottle Lucinda... currently curled up with one. It's very comforting.

I feel awful today. Even the thought of an ice lolly makes me retch. Week 9 starts tomorrow... that's meant to be particularly bad, isn't it?

Feeling particularly pathetic and miserable today.

And stressed, work accidentally (it must be accidental as why on earth would they say otherwise?!) let on that they haven't managed to engage a supply teacher for 3/4 of my classes as there isn't one available with the right subject (very, very rural location). Which, combined with a GP 'phone appt yesterday saying that in his opinion I'm unlikely to be at work again before Christmas makes me so, so worried about what I will find when I get back. I cried for about two hours yesterday evening, wasting energy and tears that I don't have enough liquid for.

I'm so bloody miserable. I wanted this baby for such a long time but I'm finding it so hard to remain positive about it.

fourcorneredcircle · 05/11/2016 12:28

Try fruit ice lollies bloop, the slow rate of consumption means the liquid you get from them stays down quite well.

LHReturns · 05/11/2016 13:13

Fourcornered I'm so sorry. You have certainly hit what was my worst stage. While I still feel wretched, I am not as bad as I was a week ago - ride this out and any upcoming improvement will be very noticeable for you.

Problem with the first trimester for HG sufferers is that there is not ONE thing to enjoy about pregnancy, especially if it is your first. Instead you just wonder what on earth made you want to do this. I believe this will change for you soon.

fourcorneredcircle · 05/11/2016 13:24

Thanks for your encouragement LH, it does help to hear from someone a few steps ahead.

MotherofPearl · 05/11/2016 15:32

Four, so sorry to hear you sounding so (understandably) low. You are at the very worst stage, and as LH says, things will begin to improve. Even for those who are unlucky enough to be sick all the way through, it's never as bad as it is in the early weeks. Try not to worry about work (easier said than done I know). All you can do is focus on getting through each day. I found it helpful mentally to consciously think 'that's another day done of being pregnant, another day I'll never have to do again' as I got into bed each night. Flowers for you, Bloop, and LH.

Bloodpbleep You don't have to battle through to nine weeks without meds; there are safe meds to take for excessive vomiting and nausea in pregnancy - do phone the Pregnancy Sickness Support line on 024 7638 2020 and they will have to phone back, but they will, and they have given great advice about obtaining meds to all sorts of sufferers on these threads.
fourcorneredcircle Sorry you feel so low, and I am glad at least the hot water bottle helps with the stomach pains. Remind me what drugs you are on? As others say, you are at the worst stage. Things will almost certainly get a lot better.
Waves to everyone...Great advice from MotherofPearl as ever.

Bloopbleep · 05/11/2016 17:18

Thanks for the advice - despite it being freezing outside I foresee lots of ice lollies ahead! They're a great idea.

I shall call the advice line lucinda thank you. I've read so much about what I can take, I just can't persuade my GPS to prescribe for me :(

LucindaE · 05/11/2016 19:27

Bloopbleep Ah,and have you got kesostix? They are so handy for checking the early stages of dehydration.

Hi everyone, after a week of feeling horrendous the combo of buccastem and cyclizine is really working for me. I feel
Human again. bloop - I've been taking meds since 6 weeks, and there are safe meds to take in pregnancy. I hope you feel better soon!

fourcorneredcircle · 05/11/2016 20:22

Thanks Lucinda and MoP for your kindness. I'm on cyclizine, it seems largely effective in that I don't vomit apart from once/twice first thing but the nausea is constant and I retch a lot too. Especially in the evening. Producing lots of saliva still so Soapy McBoaky (the trusty washing up bowl) is still a fairly constant companion.

Bloopbleep · 05/11/2016 23:07

I don't have kesostix - I shall google them. Thanks.

LucindaE · 06/11/2016 10:45

Mimosa How lovely to hear those meds are working! That is happy news.
Much sympathy for those struggling through the weekend to see a GP on Monday.
Bleepbloop It might be worth getting kesostix locally if you can find a chemist open on Sunday - as ketones can spiral quickly, and if you can show them that your ketones are 3+ on Monday, they will have to take action, either with immediate meds, perhaps an injection, or having you admitted for fluids where they will prescribe meds.

I could cry for you 9 weekers it's such a hard battle, I think the mental strain gets you then as well as it seems never ending. Four sending you extra virtual support. I needed to swap to metochlopromide at 7.5. Weeks because the nausea was just too much for me with cyclizine, is it worth trying a new drug?

Lh how do you cope with four dogs and a toddler in central London? I hope they aren't huge and dragging you about!

Bloops tell your Dr you can have drugs now.

I'm currently growing a baby with the help of cup a soups, super noodles, crumpets and French fries (the crisps not actual potatoes) if it's not beige I'm not interested. I've improved my diet dramatically by reducing my Lucazade sport intake by a half. Waah I want to be normal again.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 06/11/2016 12:18

Is 9 weeks the worst bit then? What happens at 9 weeks? I'm 9+3 so right in the thick of it.

Funnily enough with my first pregnancy (terminated, many many years ago) I didn't know I was pregnant until about 9 weeks because that's when I started feeling really sick. Second time (2014, DS) I was queasy from 6 weeks but wasn't sick regularly until around 10 weeks. This time? 5 weeks vomit central.

CastleFeck · 06/11/2016 13:23

Peace I think it's because hcg (the vomit hormone) usually peaks at week 9/10 then starts to drop.

LightTripper · 06/11/2016 14:22

Yaaaayyyy Mimosa!!!

Hang on in there 9 weekers. It really is vile and time goes so slow, but for me it didn't get any worse from there and very gradually started to get better. Then you start to get a bit of energy back (which helps cope with the sickness). And then hopefully you'll see bigger improvements and you also get the one really nice pregnancy thing of feeling the baby move!

LHReturns · 06/11/2016 14:33

At 10+3 I really do think that I am turning a TINY corner. Mornings are almost operational, and my hideous time (approx 2pm - 8pm) seems to be slightly shortening.

I have also discovered Horlicks in hot milk is helping a lot with getting liquid in and reducing acid. I used to love Horlicks as a kid, I know most people hate it.

Fortunately all four dogs are small...one very high gravitas photo of the smallest attached. All 3.5lbs of him....he is the tiny dictator of the house though.

LightTripper · 06/11/2016 15:06

CastleFeck · 06/11/2016 15:58

Fab news lh, love your boss, he's tiny!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 06/11/2016 16:07

Feeling the baby move gives me heebie jeebies ConfusedGrin I am the worst pregnant woman ever!

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/11/2016 17:50

Don't suffer. You can have meds at 6w. I suffere 4/8w as never been preg before so thought my sickness was sickness. I reliesed reading on here I was suffering too much and saw gp. He tested my ketones and I keep eye on at home

Fab you are feeling a bit better lh. Weird how all diff. Was so sick lifeless 6:7am to 12/1pm. Yet afternoons and evenings much better.

14w was big improvement and although still sick some days I'm a lot better and almost 20w hope I'm almost free ....

Tho when I drop from 3 cyczline to 2 I feel /am sick so will stick to 3

fourcorneredcircle · 06/11/2016 18:57

LH I love your dog :) and I'm a cat person normally.

Nothing changes here. Tried some bitter lemon today (from the stash provided by mother). Fizzy vomit. Tried again when flat. Better but made my poor dehydrated lips tingle!

LucindaE · 06/11/2016 19:30

Peace I may be wrong - been a few years for me - but I've a feeling that things peaking round nine to ten weeks is that some hormonal peak is reached just before the maturing placenta takes over producing the hormones from the corpus luteum (or however that's spelt), which for some reason makes it less nauseating for most people after that time. Other hormones replace HCG for some such thing. So, I suppose that's why things peak for most Hyperemesis sufferers around that time...
LHReturns Four dogs? You energetic thing! That one is very sweet.
Waves to everyone.

Just so you don't think I am a batty dog lady - three of the dogs arrived within the last 12 months. When my new puppy fetish showed no sign of abating, DH finally agreed to another baby.

The puppies don't cause HG tho....
