I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hello everyone! Sorry to hear about bad days and kitchen voms. Not good. Strong (and ice cold) drinks always go down well with me too. Even though I'm much better now I still can't drink room temperature water without wanting to heave.

Adding my date to Lucinda's list!

Morning all.

My due date's not until June. So, so far away. The thought of vomiting every day for the next 32+ weeks makes me want to cry.

Back on the ice lollies this morning. Eyeing up some Capri suns I've popped in the freezer for later.

Hello all...

Just a quick one...here trying to keep my SOH. Yesterday I ran out of Ondansetron, which was not a problem as I have a repeat prescription. Went to pharmacy yesterday to get the new meds, but they didn't have it all in stock. They gave me the small amount they did have and then said I can return today to collect the rest. ALL FINE.

Last night when I was ready to take my evening dose, after a panicked and sweaty rush about, I realised that I HAD THROWN THE NEW MEDS AWAY. I don't know how, but they ended up in a bag with some other empty packaging. And I mean AWAY as they had gone into communal rubbish chute. Unsalvageable.

So I have now not taken Ondansetron for more than 24 hours. As you might imagine I have been awake throwing up pretty constantly since 3am. Literally about 15 times so far. No time to eat or drink inbetween.

So my unplanned clinical trial to test whether I am still Ondansetron - dependent has been pretty conclusive.

I also need a poo for a change (one benefit to my clinical trial) but no time to go as I am vomiting too much. Maybe it will just pop out into the floor while I am vomiting, and then I really will need to kill myself. Problem solved.

Anyway - don't know how I am going to go and collect the NEW NEW meds in this state. It is a 10 minute walk to pharmacy which could be 'colourful'. Then I need to keep them down.

Ho hum ho hum....

Oh no LH! Could you ask your nanny to go as part of a walk with your son?

Maybe this is a knickers off sat on the loo with a bucket occcasion. Not glamorous but better than the alternative? Thinking of you (in a glamorous pose with a glass of wine, not in the afore mentioned situation) Flowers

LHReturns · 02/11/2016 12:21

Thanks so much FourCornered! Comedy bad scene here.

Drugs are coming to me now with nanny and DS. And a pizza. My current diet is so shocking.

We cross posted so here is updated due dates list:

Any food is food.

I live on toast and ice lollies. and chippy chips

LucindaE · 02/11/2016 13:08

My goodness, LHReturns that is so unlucky, and you so deserve a medal for seeing the funny side of that. Yes, to lose control of your bowels would be the last straw. When you say fifteen times, please tell me that is fifteen heaves rather than fifteen separate occasions? I do hope you make it to the pharmacy.
fourcorneredcircle and everyone is, I hope, managing today.

Moo
Oh god LH you poor thing. So glad you can laugh at it all. Fingers crossed you don't poo yourself (never thought I'd write that)

LHReturns · 02/11/2016 13:47

Thank you Lucinda. Sadly I mean 15 separate 'occasions', each one involving multiple agonising bile-stinging acid explosions that take maximum effort to squeeze out. Waiting for an eyeball to plop into the loo as well.

Ondansetron is back on board. Vomiting has stopped but VERY wobbly with much ground to make up.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 02/11/2016 14:04

Saw midwife this morning and she said I could see the GP if it really was bad, but "you will find that you feel unwell at this stage, and it should clear up soon" Sad I was sick every day until I gave birth with my DS. I wish I'd been sick on her. Don't know if I can be arsed to make a doctor appointment.
Ice lollies are amazing, aren't they? And crisps.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 02/11/2016 14:04

My EDD is 9/6/17

LightTripper · 02/11/2016 15:26

Please do make an appointment peacelove. My MW was very dismissive last time too but the GP was helpful. MW still seem to often spout the rubbish that sickness is an 8-12 week kind of deal and you just have to drink some ginger tea and wear travel bands for that month and all will be well. Whereas even my friends with normal pregnancy sickness I think were very rarely through it before 14-15 weeks so it's really worth the investment to try to find a meds combination that works for you (and if you were sick the whole way through last time, even more so!)

I wish you'd been sick on her too Grin. You are very restrained.

Hi all, I'm now back on the cyclazine and haven't been too bad the last couple of days, just being sick a few times. Had my 16 week appointment yesterday which was nice as I got to hear the heartbeat. It's the toddler's day off from nursery today so Peppa Pig is helping me to look after her

Bloopbleep · 02/11/2016 15:48

Hello all, I hope you don't mind me asking about this here. I'm 5+3 so ridiculously early on. Before pregnancy I was taking stemitil due to a medication I have to take for connective tissue disorder that gives me bad nausea. I hadn't taken the stemitil (except once) since I found out I was pregnant. I have had nausea since before my bfp and been sick daily and I know from first pg that it hasn't even properly started yet. With first pg I lost 2st in the first trimester due to nausea (being sick was a blessing then!) and no dr would help me telling me it was normal and to drink ginger tea. (I've not been able to stomach ginger since dd1 was born) Anyway I spoke to my current gp about taking something for the sickness as I still get the nausea from my meds with the ms on top which you can imagine is absolute bliss Confused and was told I can't take anything as it's too dangerous for the baby and I just have to put up with it.

Is there a point in he pregnancy it becomes safe to take antiemetics? I've not been dehydrated with the ms for a week so that at least is something but given it's so early and the ms hasn't fully kicked in yet, I'm a bit worried I'm going to be abandoned unable to lift my head from the pillow like I was with dd1. Am I being a dick and asking too much or is the dr right that it's too dangerous?

MotherofPearl · 02/11/2016 16:09

No time for a full post now but wanted to dash on to say Bloop, your GP is very out of date and you have been sadly misinformed. Stemitil is prochlorperazine and many women on this thread (which I've been part of on and off since 2011!) have been prescribed it for MS/HG. Another very safe option is cyclizine, which has been used in pregnancy for decades. Honestly, these HCPs make me so cross! Please take a look at the NICE guidelines on treating pregnancy sickness, and if necessary take a print out to your GP. The guidelines make it clear that treatment needs to focus on giving the woman as normal a quality of life as possible. NOT just 'put up and shut up'!
Peace, your midwife sounds just as bad. There is no other situation where you are expected to be constantly nauseous and vomiting multiple times each day for 9 months with NO treatment! Sorry, rant over. I'd really encourage everyone faced with this battle to either take someone with you to the GP to advocate on your behalf, or bypass these ridiculous GPs altogether and self-refer to an EPU where you will be treated by a hospital consultant who will most likely be much much more experienced at modern treatment of HG.
Back later for a non-ranting catch up with all.

Blondes - thanks for the dosage tips, sounds like doing it that way may stop the awful waking up in the early morning because I'm nauseated. Will give it a try tonight!

Peace and Bloop - absolutely go to the GP!!! There is no need to feel this rough

As for the Mimosa household, DH has norovirus and we only have 1 bathroom. I've escaped it so far but mini-mimosa woke up covered in sick yesterday and this morning. She seemed OK and childminder agreed to take her, but it's definitely a house of plague at the moment.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 02/11/2016 16:56

Hi there everyone,

I lost the thread for a while and it didn't show up when I searched for it. Very strange.

Anyway, I have missed you guys. Unfortunately I am back to feeling rotten, the early success of ondansetron seem to have worn off. Being very sick and generally feeling terrible. Not helped by DD having norovirus.... and DH being away of course... fab timing.

I saw one of the GPS yesterday, asked what else I can do as I am beginning to feel a bit fed up and really need a break. And she said..... GINGER BISCUITS! I was moments away from throttling her!
I smiled in the end and said 'I think I'm a bit past the mild morning sickness doing you?'

Made me very cross as just before that she had said I am very dehydrated again and if I didn't keep fluid down I need readmission. Grrr. Rant over.

Anyway, there's loads to catch up on it seems, but the scrolling down is setting me off- so I'll catch up soon.

Hope others are better. X

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 02/11/2016 17:23

I'm here!

Sorry I've not been on in a while, but I'm touched that I was missed Blush

Was readmitted last week for a night for more fluids, and have to say (quietly so as not to curse it) that I actually feel pretty good now.

Still on cyclizine 3 times a day, and as long as I eat little and often, the sickness stays away.

Had a quick vom yesterday but I drank some really cold water and I think it was just a shock to my stomach.

I'm sorry others are still struggling. And I'm very cross for those that are having it dismissed by health professionals. So frustrating.

I've been very lucky that all the nurses/GPs/midwives I've come into contact with have been very sympathetic and understanding. Thank god! I don't think I'd have got through it if not.

I'm just having the usual can't-keep-my-eyes-open-for-more-than-10-hours knackeredness, but think that's normal for first trimester?

Hello MotherofPearl, Lucinda and everyone.

Hope everyone is doing ok although very angry to hear of so many HCPs who are ill informed and still think nibbling on a bit of ginger (and crucially NOT prescribing meds) is a suitable way to treat HG.

It's been rather a while since I was here - I feel rather fickle and apologise because as they manageable days have become more I've posted less! 17 weeks now, still on 2 cyclizine but the sicking seems to have cranked up a notch after settling down to a few times a week. Been sick 4 times today - on family hol and have a cold (which has made throwing up even more horrible as sick seems to get stuck in my nose) so feeling particularly miserable and sorry for myself. It's unpleasant but has anyone any tips for dealing with the weeing whilst violently sicking? It's really getting me down - have tried stuffing a wodge of loo roll down my pants as I start vomiting but (TMI) I'm soaking through that! If I have time I just whack my bottoms off and wee on the floor (which is fairly depressing) but keep being caught short and soaking my trousers. The being sick is undignified enough but the retching and weeing really does take it to a whole new level...

LHReturns · 02/11/2016 18:23

Great to hear from Shirley and Boobs again!

Hello to new joiners - especially those due AFTER me. I really really like you.

Hello Allabout! I have exactly the same problem with constant leaking when vomiting . Is this your first baby may I ask? This is my second and I don't recall this happening with my first HG pregnancy, so figure my pelvic floor is weaker this time.

Stuffing loo roll into knickers sounds like a good idea. But accept that may not be sufficient.

I so agree the loss of dignity is hideous. It adds to how housebound I am because I don't want to risk wetting my knickers while vomiting in public.

Deep deep joy.

Allaboutthecake13 · 02/11/2016 18:29

Thanks LH - is actually my first and always thought my pelvic floor was ok but the more violent the retching has got, the more I've been weeing. It's particularly bad with the empty stomach vomits. Although deeply unpleasant and wouldn't wish it on anyone, it's nice to have somewhere where we can talk about these delightful things - I told a friend in RL and she didn't mask her disgust very well so I've been keeping quiet about it, apart from DH who has had tone chief floor mopped! Just had an episode and found that loo roll down pants was slightly more effective when vomitting from a seated position (I have moved a stool into the bathroom!) than standing so perhaps that's the way forward!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 02/11/2016 18:31

Oh thank god someone else mentioned the wetting yourself whilst vomiting thing. As if you couldn't feel any more undignified, boom, wet knickers.

LHReturns · 02/11/2016 18:41

Good that is reassuring! I probably did have this with first, just don't remember it.

Sitting position for retching definitely helps me, or kneeling with knees squeezed together.

My big NO NO position is a standing / feet together / knees apart / squat in front of loo which was my previous favourite (former ballet dancer!). That means flood gates immediately even in my dehydrated state. Where is this wee coming from?

I told one friend and she was equally horrified. Only mention it on MN now...

I love you all for making me feel marginally less disgusting here, wallowing in my own filth.
