I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Welcome Mimosa - sorry you are feeling so terrible. I also have a toddler and couldn't quite believe I was putting myself through this again (also definitely my LAST TIME!) How far along are you?

Do you have a good GP? If the cyclizine isn't doing enough there might be something else you can take instead (or aswell) that would help you get through. I took cyclizine first and it did help me but after about a week the sickness caught up with it and I was throwing up every day again, so I started to take metoclopramide as well, and that definitely helped too (put me back to being sick every other day rather than every day, and gave me a bit more energy at work before things got bad in the afternoons/evenings). With a job and a toddler, and even with a supportive DH, you need all the help you can get!

LucindaE · 01/11/2016 12:07

Welcome, Mimosa. It's very brave of you to go for it again. I didn't, but I've always regretted it as a sibling must be the greatest gift for any child. You've already had great advice from LightTripper. I so agree that they might try you on another medication which might make things easier as you have such a busy schedule! You being a veteran, you don't need my advice about kesostix and so on. You might not have tried some of these liquids or sometimes bearable foods though - ice lollies, ice cubes, Fanta, chocloate milkshake, Lucozade, soda water, the juice and fruit of tinned fruit, especially pears, peaches and apricots, jelly, cheap ice cream, slices of frozen melon or cuppa soup.

I've just seen an old message from Newtothis88 a while back while I was scrolling through for other information. I missed this, and I don't think I greeted you,I do apologise. You had a query about how can you tell if you're dehydrated. It is a good idea to invest in kesostix from a chemists to check for the early stages. Also, as others say, dark urine, a headache, dry skin and mouth, blurry vision and as things go on,a confused feeling.
How are you now?

Hello all.

Rae glad to hear your test was okay.

Waving at all the new people, sorry you've had to join 😕

I'm not 32+5 & seriously struggling. Have a massive bald patch now & my skin is awfully dry. Went to a spa yesterday & had a facial. Not feeling quite so parched today.

I thought I had great news last week as suddenly woke up not feeling sick. Saw the midwife & consultant & they ran some tests. Looks like I might actually now have diabetes, have a proper test tomorrow. I swear, I am the worst at pregnancy!

The consultant has confirmed that they are dragging my little monkey out early though - can't take much more of this. He's coming the morning of December 15th 👶🏻

How is everyone? Sorry I've been a bit quiet, just been exhausted after work. On leave this week though & then only 2 to go!

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/11/2016 15:46

MImsosa. Welcome and sadly seems to be worse with no 2. Immsure rhe fact you can't just sleep and rest the way you can with no 1 has something to do with it

Mimosa1 · 01/11/2016 15:46

Thanks Lucinda and Lightripper, and Lucy how exciting to have a due date! I'm nearly 8 weeks and somehow thought it would be easier this time. I'm eating loads of kids easypeeler tangerines and apples as I seem to be craving sour foods and it's - ahem - easier coming up. I had metoclopramide in my last pregnancy and it didn't do anything for me. Cyclizine is better and sort of ok during the day although am usually sick once. I take 3 tablets a day but the worst is that my last tablet is around 8pm and it wears off overnight and I end up lying in bed at 4am feeling like death. I'm thinking of spacing the tablets out further and setting an alarm at night to take one. How do you space them out?

LucindaE · 01/11/2016 16:28

Lucy Really sorry you are still suffering, and your hair is still coming out.
I'm so glad you've got a due date - more about 'due dates' in a minute.
Best of luck for that test - I never know how people manage to keep that glucose drink down. How often is the vomiting with you now? If it's still frequent, you deserve a medal for struggling in to work for so long. No wonder you are tired. Did you say that they had tried most meds with you, or was it a case that they couldn't use some? Sorry for foregetting.
Mimosa I wonder if they can give you something else - there are lots of combinations they can try? It's good that you are able to eat fruit, even if lots of it does come up again. Never worry about tmi on here: anything goes, foam vomits and bowel problems...I expect someone on cyclizine will be able to give you good advice on spacing doses shortly.
On Due Dates I am so sorry, everyone, but I have somehow been unable to locate the list I had! I do apologise. I could have sworn there was one early on this particular thread, but when I scanned through, no sign of it, and I don' t know how to do a search on the threads!
Looks sheepish (very odd in a hen). Would people like a due dates list?
Would they mind giving dates again if they do? Sorry about this.

Indeed, it's so exciting! My actual DD is 22/12 but I'm officially ill enough to bump it forward a week. I half want it to be tomorrow & half desperately need the time to sort out the house!

Lucinda I tried everything bar the steroids. I have osteo so can't take any more. Ondansetron worked best & got it down to a about 10 times a day. I've not been sick for almost a week now, unfortunately that's also when the sugar problem kicked in. I'm just hoping I can manage this test tomorrow - keep your fingers crossed!

fourcorneredcircle · 01/11/2016 18:16

Hello mimosa welcome to our not always so happy band :)

I've spent most of today and yesterday asleep. I got a load of work stuff done yesterday morning and as soon as I sent the last email saying "I won't be in touch again unless you ask me something specific" I just felt so, so, drained. Woken myself up a lot retching and forced toast and ice lollies down regularly. Midday today my mum dropped by with shit loads of different drinks. I kid you not. I think she bought one of every can, bottle and carton the corner shop had. She said she wasn't leaving until I'd at least tried some of them, even a sip. I behaved like a petulant child but she wouldn't back down.

As you can imagine I filled a bucket of rainbow coloured sick however, I did have success with the following which some of you might like to try;

Black currant Capri Sun which had been in the freezer and was quite slushy
Mango rubbicon
Pomegranate rubbicon
The cheapest nastiest looking limeade I have ever seen. Seriously, I think you could power a small engine on it.

All really strong flavours. Far stronger than I would have been rave enough to try without my mum there making sympathetic noises and holding my l hair back.

It's occurred to me though that most of those flavours mimmic the fruit pastel lollies that I can stomach (ahem, six times a day).

I can't tell you how much better I feel simply from having a drink. I hope one of those tempts someone else.

LucindaE · 01/11/2016 18:59

Lucy I'm really sorry that it was so bad until this week and now the diabetes thing hanging over you.
fourcorneredcircle That sounds a wonderful mother!

Welcome Mimosa, and sorry to hear you're feeling so rough. You've already had some good advice but just wanted to reinforce what Light says about combining meds. Meto might not have worked for you in your first pregnancy but it might be good when combined with the cyclizine you're already taking. Most of us have reasonable (if imperfect) success with Ondansetron, but it can be tricky to get hold of.
South, how are you doing today?
LH, I hope you don't think I really have expectations for you to fulfil, but I'm certainly glad to be regarded as maternal! How are you faring? You're right that Boobs has been awfully quiet; I do hope she's OK.
Lucy, you poor thing, you just don't seem to be able to catch a break! I do feel for you, especially about the hair loss. Good luck for the wretched diabetes test, and do let us know how it goes.
Four, your mum is a hero (although I'm sure it didn't feel like that to you at the time!). That's great advice about drinks. For me it was all about temperature; everything had to be ice ice cold. The thought of a tepid drink made me heave.
Must dash to do DS's story time. Big waves to Lucinda, Blondes, Light and everyone.

Southlondon321 · 01/11/2016 19:28

Had a set back tonight. I was so proud I managed to dodge the cat poo and shut the door so I couldn't smell it (litter tray in bathroom). Then I has a tickle in my throat and tried to cough it away and I have been so so sick. Because bathroom was out of bounds it was a bit projectile whilst I ran to kitchen sink (so sorry guys because I know that's enough of a trigger sometimes!). I text my husband to say I was worried about cough making me sick (started with a little gag and was getting worse) and he ran from the train station (normally 4 min walk so not actually far) to sort out bathroom in case I needed it. Anyway alas, lounge floor cleaned, sink bleached and plug unblocker doing its thing. I feel like I stink but I'm too sensitive to go in bathroom and get clean (haven't actually got sick on me as washed my face) because of the litter. He is so good, I can't tell you how grateful I am for his support and strong gag reflex. I feel terrible now. I have terrible sore throat. Not sure what I should eat. If this was a bug I wouldn't eat until I felt better but I know I need to get something back in my stomach before bed because otherwise tomorrow will be a total nightmare. Feeling like I can't cope now. I don't want to cry because when I'm upset that makes me sick too!!! Deep sigh. Sorry to be gross on here. Please say if that was too much detail so I know going forward.

Southlondon321 · 01/11/2016 19:35

I've been refreshing the page through the day and it didn't seem anything had been posted. But when I did that post loads of messages came up

peaceloveandbiscuits · 01/11/2016 19:48

I'm not sure if I've got especially bad MS or if I'm just being a loser. In my last pregnancy I was sick at least once a day from about 10 weeks until I gave birth (and once in labour for good measure). I'm now pregnant again and have been sick most days since 5 weeks. Now I'm almost 9 weeks and my record yesterday was six times, but I'm averaging two/three times a day.
I'm getting frightened to go out because I hate being sick in the street. I carry plastic bags around with me everywhere I go.
I'm still managing to eat, and keep some things down, so I'm not sure it's worth talking to the doctor about.
It's fucking miserable, though. Any and all advice and pity welcomed.

Southlondon321 · 01/11/2016 19:54

Peace - you absolutely 1000000% need to go to your doctor immediately.
People suffer to different degrees but there is safe medication available you can take that should give you as close to poss a normal life. From our stories you can see it's not a perfect science but until today I wasn't sick since Thursday.... I wasn't well and had terrible nausea, gagging and heaving but you shouldn't be sick that much. The ladies will be really helpful with suggestions of medication to ask for. Make sure you go tomorrow. Sorry to be bossy, it's from a good place and I'm feeling sorry for myself so it's worse than normal.

Southlondon321 · 01/11/2016 19:55

^^bossiness and nausea

peaceloveandbiscuits · 01/11/2016 20:02

Thank you. I'm booking in with the MW tomorrow so will mention it to her. I'm already taking 6 tablets a day and they make me gag as it is Sad

Southlondon321 · 01/11/2016 20:06

6 sounds awful. Mine make me gag too. Taking them is an operation in itself. However I don't take that many. There must be a combo that works well. It's a crazy amount of hormones that cause it to be so severe. I don't know anyone in real life that has suffered sickness to my degree, let alone yours when pregnant. Can mw prescribe? If not def see doc.

CastleFeck · 01/11/2016 20:28

Lucy you are a hero. Fantastic news on your due date.

Four so pleased your mum was there to help you and you've found some drinks to keep you hydrated.

Welcome mimosa and peace. Sorry you're having to come on this thread.

LH how are you? Hope week 9 as not got any worse?

Thanks Lucinda for clucking after us. My dd is 19/4/17.

South you poor thing, sorry there was a vom disaster.

Hi everyone else. Nothing to report here which is good news. Week 15 has been very kind to me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/11/2016 21:08

The more gory and pukey the better so don't worry about tmi 😂

On phone so can't nme check. Cyczline. I have 3 a day and pretty much space out every 8hrs

3/4/5am
1pm
9pm

Whenever I wake for a pee in the night I take it as the morning one or take 7am

Spacing every 8hrs works for me. I have stopped 3rd tablet for a few days then puke lots so stay at 3

Southlondon321 · 01/11/2016 21:33

Oh yeah I take it 3 times too. I don't as thinking one type. I literally gave medicated puke brain

Southlondon321 · 01/11/2016 21:33

^have

Southlondon321 · 01/11/2016 21:34

^that whole sentence was bad but hopefully you know what I mean

MotherofPearl · 01/11/2016 21:35

South, sorry you've had much a horrid day. No TMI on this thread, as Lucinda always says. At least you weren't sick on the cat itself, like poor old Lucy. Grin And I was famed for my kitchen sink voms when I was suffering so don't feel bad.
Peace, welcome to the thread. I agree with South, please see your GP. You shouldn't have to just suffer in silence. Cyclizine is a good first line med to try. It's very safe and widely used.

LucindaE · 02/11/2016 10:23

Welcome to peachloveandbiscuits. Poor you, I so agree with others, do ask for meds. There are several they can try, and Stemitil melts on the tongue so you don't have to swallow. I'm glad you can eat a little. Most people find that it is the unhealthy stuff which stays down - cheap ice cream, nibbles of crisps, and tinned fruit (and its juice) and so on. How are you managing for liquids? It might be worth investing in kesostix - available from any chemists - if you don't have them already, just in case things do get worse and you have to check for the early stages of dehydration. Have you got childcare arranged so you get some respite? Rest is very important in managing this, though it's difficult with an LO.
SouthLondon You poor thing. Sink vomits are so depressing, and as MotherofPearl says, never for a moment worry about tmi and gory details on here. Gory details are a feature of this thread. At least you didn't wet yourself, as I always did! Sweet of OH to sprint from the station!
Great advice about spacing meds for Mimosa from blondes and others.
Castlefeck Thank you for kind words.
Apologies again for losing the old due dates list.
So, new Due Dates List
Lucy 15 December
Castlefeck 19 April

and I know that Ican and Rae and some others are quite near their due dates.I wonder if we will have any Christmas babies?
On festivities, I was so disappointed. I had a pretty bowel of sweets ready for trick and treating and nobody came this year (sorry if that mention of sweets makes anyone feel bad).

Waves to lovely MotherofPearl and everyone. Watch me cross post!
