Period Pain without BH

Has anyone else experienced period pain without BH, i am 35 wks tommorrow and already went to hospital in pre-labour a couple of weeks ago, hospital gave me steroids and a drip with stuff (don't know the name) to stop contractions, but for the last 2 days i have got period type pains (only in front though not in back so much) but they don't come with the bh, i have had some show but not big blobs, just like when you have a cold (sorry if tmi), any-1 with advise please.

This was how my premature labours started, please get to the hospital, even just to check.

Jade1979 · 02/02/2007 14:32

Hi Sparkly, i am very reserved to ring hospital, i kinda feel like i put them out, also to get my hopes up as i want this baby (doesn't every-1 after 30 wks) but i'm not sure what to say as i am having the period type pains but NO braxtons, i was getting them quite frequent but since this pain started they seem to have almost stopped.

that does sound like a show, it doesn;t have to be big clumps..but snot like discharge....i would get to the labour ward to be checked, as sparkly has said...a show, although does not always mean labour is starting imminently, it does mean the cervix is staring to soften and dilate.....35 weeks is a touch too early..so donlt feel you are wasting their time....pains and a show needs checking ....IMO

I am going to sound like a bid moo moo here, (lulumama i have followed some advice you have given on some threads and your the bomb you have got some very sound advice), when i went into pre-labour my own hospital had to transfer me to another hospital due to no neo-natal beds available, now i have transfered all my care there, and i don't want to be thought of as another whiner (as some do), i did tell my MW about show yesterday and she seemed so unaffected by it, because the pain isn't due to braxtons i feel like i already know what their going to say (stay at home till your contracting) or somthing along them lines.

Period pains with no BH is how my (term) labours started. Pains that came and went regularly.

Jade1979 · 02/02/2007 15:57

SOUPDRAGON if you read this can i ask how long your pain lasted for before your babies were born, i keep getting these pains on and off just like a period, and my hips bloody hurt just like a period, i can cope with the pain but i am quite confused about not having BH whilst the pain comes and goes, because i have read and been told "true" labour is like a period pain WITH BH.

I actually found that my pre-term labours were not as painful as I thought they would be, I was told that my contractions (which didn;t feel like contractions to me) were not strong enough to dilate my cervix but 2 hours later I had dd2. Please get check, a premterm labour can progress very fast.

lulumama · 02/02/2007 16:09

jade..you are not a whiner!! and if you have had one episode of prelabour, neccesitating steroids and a drip, you should be checked...!!

yes, true labour hurts ! but but but.....some women do dilate with very little pain, just some niggles, and get to the hospital almost fully dilated ! and some women never get BH.....

worth being checked out x

SoupDragon · 02/02/2007 16:12

Under 24 hours (DS1, 23 hours, DS2 18hrs, DD 9hrs). I got regular pain like period pains - time when yours are coming. Mine were very regular.

SoupDragon · 02/02/2007 16:13

The pain gradually lasted longer, got closer together and generally got worse.

I agree that you would not be whining if you contacted the hospital. You really ought to given the fact that labour has started once already.

SoupDragon · 02/02/2007 16:14

There were no BH feelings with these pains until they turned into full blown contractions.

Jade1979 · 02/02/2007 16:43

Have just called MW she suggested same thing as lulumama (she is gud), told her i don't want to be a put on, SOUPDRAGON did you also feel this sensation in your bum (sorry if tmi) as though you want to go toilet (it's not constipation i have been today and quite loose.

lulumama · 02/02/2007 17:10

JADE - if you are getting pressure in your bum..i;d say get thee to the labour ward for a thorough check...might be baby engaging..but pressure and pains and a show are sounding like it could be the start of something....

ps thanks for your lovely compliment.x

SoupDragon · 02/02/2007 17:38

Hmmm.... I only had that feeling when I either needed the toilet or was having the baby!!

SmileysPeople · 02/02/2007 17:56

My early labour was only period type pain, no contractions, i was refusing to go to the hospital, Dh eventually persuaded me and when we got there I was 8cm dilated.
After waters broke the contractions started and Ds2 born about 5hrs later.
Go to the hospital, listen to lulumama.

Although with pains and pressure I'm thinking you've gone already, or things have suddenlyprogressed....

lulumama · 02/02/2007 18:37

better be at the hospital..i;m off out in half an hour..no on line doulaing tonight !! LOL!

Jade1979 · 02/02/2007 18:51

sorry guys not at hospital, did call them though they said to stay at home till it got progressive (sooooooooo frustriating), keep sitting on loo though.

LULUMAMA you the best online doula i have met, have a gud night, will update if i ever go to hospital, but if anyone got any ideas or adzice in mean time i am anticipating a long night.
