So I'm almost in my third trimester and with only 3 months to go I have started to set my eyes on the days/weeks after baby arrives. Aside from looking forward to our new bub I'm looking forward to the things I've had to give up!

Are there any foods or drinks you're missing that you would plan to have after the baby comes? I've told DH that he has to take me on a steak dinner (I miss having them medium rare) or for seafood sushi!

Of course this has to be after:

  • I am physically recovered to be out and about and no longer in danger of peeing my pants in public
  • we find somewhere baby friendly or can con my sister to babysit for an afternoon/evening

Wine, gin, pate and Brie!

RuskBaby · 01/08/2016 19:03

Medium rare fillet steak as soon as I can, given up eating wel done steak now, tried twice and I just don't like it.

milpool · 01/08/2016 19:27

LillyC what on earth are you buying for lunch that you have to read all the ingredients?! Confused

You can absolutely have a drink while you're breastfeeding too. This has useful info www.laleche.org.uk/alcohol-and-breastfeeding/

milpool · 01/08/2016 19:28

And there is no need to restrict any food intake while you're breastfeeding unless your baby has allergies that could be triggered by something you eat.

Queenofthebrae · 01/08/2016 19:37

My post labour fantasy menu is a very cold glass of prosecco (or two), some Parma ham and a very rare steak.

Ohlalala · 02/08/2016 11:48

I was super excited to have all the cheese in the world....turned out my daughter has milk/lactose allergy so am not allowed any cheese whatsoever as I am breastfeeding. Massive disappointment.

PterodactylToenails · 02/08/2016 12:17

I craved runny eggs on crumpets. I wasn't given any food on my hospital ward. No tea and toast etc! I remember DH bringing me a huge vegetarian dominoes pizza into the ward. It was the best pizza I have ever eaten!

Alwaysinahurrynow · 02/08/2016 12:31

Hawksmoor - love that place!

morgainfae · 02/08/2016 13:49

Guys you know you can eat Brie, goats cheese etc if it's been pasteurized or cooked, don't you? Check the labels, most supermarket cheeses are pasteurized these days xx

Cheby · 02/08/2016 14:08

My biggest cravings were for blue cheese and rare steak.

But the first thing I ate after labour was an M&S Honey and Mustard Chicken Pasta Salad. I was in labour for 5 days, barely eating, then not eating at all for the last 36 hours (my lovely midwife encouraged me to eat, made me toast and bought me sweets but I couldn't face it). Ended up with an EMCS; I'd been in recovery for about 30 minutes when suddenly the hunger hit me full force. I dispatched DH downstairs to the M&S Food and inhaled that pasta in about 2 mouthfuls. Sushi and a rare steak. Sadly DD was born after hospital feeding times on a Sunday night and my options were KFC or macdonalds. I went with Mcdonalds and it tasted awesome. Sorry fellow ward inhabitant I was ravenous beyond belief and the local garages had sold out of sandwiches so I literally had those two choices to add to my snack bag.

mrsmugoo · 02/08/2016 14:17

I had DD at 9:30pm on a Saturday night and had the obligatory tea and toast etc...

I was discharged at lunch time the next day and we drove straight to our local pub before we even set foot in our house for roast beef and Yorkshire puddings and Prosecco on the house!

Half the people were extremely impressed I was "out and about" so soon after having a baby, the other half we're concerned I'd brought an 18 hour old baby into a pub!

DD slept through the entire thing of course!

Pinkheart5915 · 02/08/2016 18:34

I had my DD early hours of yesterday morning and a few hours after I have scones, jam, cream, sandwiches and a little bottle of champagne. It was lovely Grin

AudreyBradshaw · 02/08/2016 18:39

Congratulations pinkheart 🍦🍰🍸🎉🎂💐

PickledLilly · 02/08/2016 20:34

I'm not too fussed about breaking the 'rules' and happily ate med/rare steak last time but I've really gone off red meat this pregnancy so I think a fat pink juicy steak with a nice sauce and a very very large glass of ice cold dry white wine. Assuming I don't lose my appetite for weeks like last time...

BathshebaDarkstone · 02/08/2016 20:40

Not banned, but cauliflower cheese bubble and squeak. Mmm.

Oysterbabe · 02/08/2016 21:16

I had planned a big cheese board, pate, red wine etc. Turns out DD was born pre-term, I stayed in NICU with her for a week. By the time we got her home we just ordered a takeaway burger and chips while staring at her thinking wtf do we do now?!

BikeRunSki · 02/08/2016 21:46

When DS was a week old, and we were both still in hospital, I decided to ff him. I set DH a text message at about midnight that said "Stilton, Red Wine, Peanut Butter".

jenjen2587 · 02/08/2016 22:16

I'm currently 15 + 3 and all I can think about on a daily basis is baked camembert and toasted bread to dip in! mmmmmm........ roll on Jan 21st! Grin

Joydgreen88 · 03/08/2016 12:13

I've eaten lots of the bad things Blush apart from pate, so I'm going to GORGE on that. Baby is due just after Christmas so will be saving my pate and cheese for then!

Joydgreen88 · 03/08/2016 12:14

jenjen you can have camembert if it's cooked! Go to town! At least that's what my midwife told me and that's why I love her so much

Ifiwasabadger · 03/08/2016 12:17

A bottle of champagne!

CauliflowerBalti · 03/08/2016 15:34

No-one is explaining wtf is wrong with a Mr Whippy...

Oysterbabe · 03/08/2016 15:57

It's to do with the cleanliness of the machine. Pretty sure quite often that shit sits in there a long time and the nozzle thingy isn't clean enough.

mummytime · 04/08/2016 08:49

Mr Whippy - isn't it also because it's not kept as cold as real ice cream so bacteria can still multiply.
