So I'm almost in my third trimester and with only 3 months to go I have started to set my eyes on the days/weeks after baby arrives. Aside from looking forward to our new bub I'm looking forward to the things I've had to give up!

Are there any foods or drinks you're missing that you would plan to have after the baby comes? I've told DH that he has to take me on a steak dinner (I miss having them medium rare) or for seafood sushi!

Of course this has to be after:

  • I am physically recovered to be out and about and no longer in danger of peeing my pants in public
  • we find somewhere baby friendly or can con my sister to babysit for an afternoon/evening

Pate and loads of it. The meals I had while staying on the maternity ward were lovely and huge portions.

Runny eggs are still banned according to my maternity pack booklet thing, I was only given it last month so it should still be in date!

But the nhs website says hard blue cheeses like Stilton are fine, my maternity pack lists Stilton as one to avoid Hmm

I want sushi... Only about 6 months until I can have it Sad

littlepooch · 29/07/2016 16:40

Cheese. And cold meat. I went mad eating it all washed down with champagne.

I also ate my body weight in mince pies. I was sick throughout oregnancy and I had craved mince pies so much but was just too sick to eat any. DD was a November baby so luckily I could indulge!!

Maybebabybee · 29/07/2016 16:42

Honestly eggs are fine. The only reason they banned eggs was due to salmonella risk. If you buy red lion stamped eggs (which nearly all are, if not all) the chickens are guaranteed to have been vaccinated against salmonella.

RochelleGoyle · 29/07/2016 19:10

Yes Gawky, Lion stamped eggs have been fine for a while now and just recently they have said even raw (yuck). A little the maternity bumf I was given was incredibly out of date - e.g referred to making sure you have enough change for the phone and film for your camera! - so some of yours might be too. Smile

I'm looking forward to Brie, Camembert and pate on toast. Plus all the wine, obviously.

mummydoc123 · 29/07/2016 19:10

My husband fed me bits of galaxy chocolate (had GD) right after birth of DS1 - was best tasting thing ever! This time would like the same and glass of prosecco!

RochelleGoyle · 29/07/2016 19:11

*A lot of, not a little the. Damned phone.

soundsystem · 29/07/2016 19:19

Cheese and pate and champagne!

My actual first meal was a takeaway curry. I made DH phone the curry before we even phoned our parents to tell them the baby was here, I was so hungry! (It was a home birth, I didn't order curry to the labour ward!)

First meal out after DD was born we went to Hawksmoor and I had some lovely rare steak. And some red wine.

Hs2Issue · 29/07/2016 19:21

I was in hospital over Christmas having DD and the Christmas dinner was awful. DH brought me in blue cheese and crackers which were delicious for Christmas tea.

EmzDisco · 29/07/2016 19:27

You va eat sushi when pregnant!! Yo sushi type stuff as the fish is always frozen first. Prob not super high end west end Japanese restaurant stuff but any high street chain is all fine.

monkeyfacegrace · 29/07/2016 19:33

I ate everything while pregnant.

But, all my labours have made me starving, so all 3 times my parents have arrived to the ward with a big mac meal with strawberry milkshake. I must have looked SO incredibly common, but my god the calories were a-mazing!

EmzDisco · 29/07/2016 19:37

And yes runny eggs are totally fine, have been for ages, but only now getting official guidelines updated

KenDoddsDadsDog · 29/07/2016 19:38

Any food at all as had hyperemesis !
The best was some chocolate and also as DD wash Christmas baby my parents' home cooked dinner.

PotteringAlong · 29/07/2016 19:41

When DS1 and 2 were born I had pate, Brie so runny it could crawl to me and Parma ham for lunch when I got home from hospital. It had better he the same this time!

Strokethefurrywall · 29/07/2016 19:43

The only thing I wanted straight after my second labor was a cup of tea and 2 Greggs steak bakes.

Which makes living 4000 miles away from UK desperately hard. We had some in the freezer but DH was too tired to stick in oven and bring to the hospital so I settled for our own Caribbean steak bake version of 2 beef patties.

After that though, I lost my appetite for a week or so.

SocksRock · 29/07/2016 19:44

We ordered a takeaway curry on the way home from hospital. Was sat on my sofa with a 5 hour old baby munching lamb passanda, was bloody marvellous

Strokethefurrywall · 29/07/2016 19:44

Never gave up anything during pregnancy though, carried on eating normally and wine a few times a week.

orangebird69 · 29/07/2016 19:45

Another devil may care here - ignored the banned food list (apart from liver/rich Vit A items). Soft cheese, rare steak, dippy eggs, the lot. The tea and toast my midwife made me just after ds was born was the most awesome thing ever.

SouthDownsSunshine · 29/07/2016 19:45

Sushi is fine, as are runny eggs as long as they're lion marked.

After dd the toast was great, but what was really amazing was dh got a pizza express take away. That was outstanding. I devoured a huge pizza in minutes.

milpool · 29/07/2016 19:50

There's nothing on the "banned" list that I actually like.

Pate is rank, I'm not into cheese...

Runny eggs have been absolutely fine for ages (DD is 14 months and I ate plenty when I was pregnant with her).

I'm planning a home birth this time so I imagine we'll get an excellent takeaway and crack open a bottle of fizz.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 29/07/2016 19:56

I ate blue cheese, eggs and the like but I had gestational diabetes and was desperate for something unhealthy. As soon as my blood sugar had been confirmed as back to normal I sent DP to coop lands to buy the biggest chocolate cake he could find 🐷

Naschkatze · 29/07/2016 20:06

I didn't know about Mr Whippy ice creams! Blush

I've got a loong way to go but I'm so looking forward to pate, goats cheese and cured meats already! I'm imagining a big platter of the stuff with fresh crusty bread.. Better let DH know!

MyBreadIsEggy · 29/07/2016 20:15

When pregnant with Dd, I couldn't stomach curry at all. Even after I got my hyperemesis under control, I just couldn't eat it....but I love it so much!!! We got home from the hospital really late at night, and had the leftover chicken tikka masala DH had taken out of the freezer the morning before. Was the most satisfying curry I've ever eaten!!
