So I'm almost in my third trimester and with only 3 months to go I have started to set my eyes on the days/weeks after baby arrives. Aside from looking forward to our new bub I'm looking forward to the things I've had to give up!

Are there any foods or drinks you're missing that you would plan to have after the baby comes? I've told DH that he has to take me on a steak dinner (I miss having them medium rare) or for seafood sushi!

Of course this has to be after:

  • I am physically recovered to be out and about and no longer in danger of peeing my pants in public
  • we find somewhere baby friendly or can con my sister to babysit for an afternoon/evening
OP posts:

There wasn't much of a 'banned foods' list when I was having mine. Pretty much just caffeine and alcohol.

But I do remember that after DS2 was born (around midnight) my MiL, who worked in the hospital cafeteria, went down and made me the very best club sandwich and chips I've ever had in my life.

BeardMinge · 30/07/2016 14:26

I scoffed a couple of homemade smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels in recovery after my ELCS. Oh and a g&t in a tin. Best meal ever. Smile

IJustAteTheKidsFoodAgain · 30/07/2016 14:49

Haven't RTFT but I practically lived off sushi when pregnant with DC2. I thought it was fine as its been frozen?

IJustAteTheKidsFoodAgain · 30/07/2016 14:50

The club sandwich sounds amazing post labour

Sophia1984 · 30/07/2016 16:11

I just can't wait to have an appetite again! I haven't enjoyed food for the last 8 months due to nausea, reduced appetite and then heartburn. I'd absolutely love to want a curry, or a nice bi spag bol, or some pizza but cooked tomatoes are far too acidic at the minute. I'm finding it really hard to know what to stock up on or what to tell my mum and brother when they say they want to bring me lots of frozen meals as I can't imagine enjoying food!

Sophia1984 · 30/07/2016 16:12

Oooh and a nice cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc. I know I could have one at this stage (39 weeks) and it'd be fine, but again - the heartburn prevents it!

supersop60 · 30/07/2016 16:47

Pate and red wine.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/07/2016 17:09

It really was Ijust. I've never had one taste so good since. I'm sure that post-delivery elation was a factor, but it was a moment of perfection. New baby snuggled in, and me eating bacony, mayo-y goodness with a large glass of coke over crushed ice. Sigh!

helenatroy · 30/07/2016 17:41

Glass of champagne
Chicken liver pate on toast
Rare steak with mushroom sauce and fat chips
Some nice red wine (South African chocolate bloc)
Cheese platter

OTheHugeManatee · 30/07/2016 19:56

I've had the odd glass of wine in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters but am looking forward to being able to pour myself a generous second and third one Grin

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 30/07/2016 19:59

Milk. Throughout my pregnancy with DC milk made me throw up. I missed tea with milk, milkshakes, ice cream, creamy sauces the lot! Vegan milks just curdled in tea and tasted awful on muesli :(

I was fine with cheese and ate all the cheese inc brie. In fact I ate most of the 'banned' foods.

Alwaysinahurrynow · 30/07/2016 20:01

helenatroy snap! Maybe with the addition of some Parma ham and chocolate mousse!

Seekingmiracles · 30/07/2016 21:10

You can have pre-packaged sushi as it's generally all been frozen before hand it's just the fresh stuff so I guess from a Japanese restaurant. I've been having the sushi waitrose sells as it has been frozen.

Thequilltosurvive · 30/07/2016 21:19

A whole bottle of champagne and a big fat medium rare steak with salty fries and loads of peppercorn sauce. You bastard, OP, I'm salivating now and still have 20 weeks to go!

MrsZumbaDancer · 30/07/2016 21:20

Looking forward to champagne! Medium well steak.. And being to eat without having to maintain gaviscon afterwards!

SharingMichelle · 31/07/2016 10:57

That hospital cup of tea and supermarket cookie I had after dd3 was THE BEST THING IVE EATEN IN THIS LIFETIME. Fact.

JuanTime · 31/07/2016 12:01

Alcohol,cold wine

thedogsvagina · 31/07/2016 12:02

Banned foods during pregnancy is a load of old tosh. Foods that were previously banned are now ok and foods that were previously ok are now banned. Advice also changes from country to country. I was pregnant and gave birth in Spain. Just about the only thing that was banned was alcohol and even that was allowed in moderation. Saying that I had to switch to decaf tea after DD showing an elevated heart rate on a scan.

Best meal for me was a milky coffee, crackers and spreading cheese. But that was because I hadn't eaten for 2 days!

GeekyWombat · 31/07/2016 15:26

Rare steak and pate were top of my wishlist.

My mum in law actually came round on the day my DD was born with a large French stick and a basket of pates and cheeses for me as a gift. One of the many reasons I love her dearly!

KitKat1985 · 31/07/2016 18:19

After DD last time I went to town on some flapjack. It was amazing. I think it was the perfect mix of being sweet without being sickly (I had spent a lot of my labour throwing up) whilst having a bit of sustenance to it.

This time around I'm looking forward to wine. And wine. Oh, and some wine.

ample · 31/07/2016 20:56

Eggs.
Scrambled or Benedict. I couldn't keep any down during the entire 9 months and it was the very first thing I wanted to eat when I was home with baby. That and a decent cup of tea.

SockQueen · 31/07/2016 21:06

Steak that isn't cremated. I've already told DH that we're going to Hawksmoor for our first date night out once I'm recovered enough to make the trip to London. The cocktails there will just be an added bonus!

Though a Brie and Parma ham sandwich will be high on the list in the interim!

Pops1985 · 01/08/2016 15:13

I've pretty much eaten everything except liver, so I am the same as many above, a big french baguette with lots and lots of chicken liver pate, oh a cold bottle of champagne! yum, only 18 weeks to go :-(

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 01/08/2016 16:13

I never got tea and toast after DD was born :( got rushed to theatre with a retained placenta and then to icu where they don't do tea and toast. I was looking forward to it SO much. In fact I'm already looking forward to tea and toast after I have my next one even though DD is less than 3 months old and we haven't even though about getting pregnant again yet!

LillyC · 01/08/2016 16:37

looking forward to be able to buy lunch without spending ages reading all the ingredients to make sure I can eat it! Craving for a medium rate steak with a glass of wine. Also craving for sushi and Gin & Tonic. All of those will still have to wait even after baby while I'm breastfeeding.
At least I haven't stopped drinking coffee, just reduced the quantity to only 1 a day max rather than my usual 2.
Oh yeah, I'm craving to crave for food!!! I have zero cravings and need to force myself to eat a lot of protein to ensure baby has everything she needs, while I struggle to hold on the food in my stomach. At least in 1 month I should feel more appetite, or so I hope!
