Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ah ickle she is so lovely!

Sleepy thinking of you. Please try to rest when you can (I'm sure you already are). Glad you got on ok with the nurse though.

RaeSkywalker · 27/07/2016 18:56

Jodders my mood improved once I'd had the dating scan and could tell people! I felt less alone. Hope it's the same for you.

I've had an awful day at work, need to cheer myself up this evening or I won't sleep!!

LucindaE · 27/07/2016 20:24

icklekid Lovely news and picture of such a sweet baby. What timing! Flowers StarGrinCakeBrew. Really happy your ordeal is at an end.
Glad too that you had a short labour. They used, I hear, routinely to give an enema before labour several decades ago. I suppose there must have been a reason why they stopped, but at least it must have done away with constipation problems!
Jodders Nice to hear from you. I don't know that drug you mention, did you say, 'caraban'? What do they recommend for this diet, I wonder? So often the only foods sufferers can tolerate are appallingly unhealthy stuff.
Lucy Sorry your head is aching. Thanks for sympathy, mine was violent but only lasted thirty six hours. Ones head aching for days is horrible and thurndery weather is a real trigger. I do hope you aren't still being plagued by the social network bullies. Sorry you don't feel good at all. It seems as though those meds are working well normally.

Rae Sorry to hear of tough day at work. I hope icklekid's lovely picture is encouargement.
SleepymrsE Much sympathy over feeling rubbishy.
Waves to Vixxfacee and everyone...Apologies if I've rudely ignored anyone.

SpecialStains Sorry

Awwww ickle 😍 a good weight for five weeks early!! Lovely to see new babies arriving!! Xx

SleepymrsE · 28/07/2016 07:53

Dragged myself into work this morning but feeling very sick today. I have meetings I can't miss this morning but think I'm going to try and take this afternoon as leave to just sleep. I am really hoping it is because I've got a sore throat that I'm feeling this sick and not the dreaded third trimester recurrence. Still taking 5 tablets a day so it's not even like I can up them by much. Between the sickness, the swollen legs, the uncomfortable braxton hicks, the heartburn... I could go on, I feel like I am definitely not cut out for pregnancy!

LightTripper · 28/07/2016 12:28

Hello! How is everybody doing today?

I am feeling a bit better in mornings but much worse in afternoons. I feel the Cyclizine is still doing something, but threw up twice yesterday (basically everything I ate after lunch) and struggled to sleep as I felt so awful in the evening.

I've managed to find some B6 today so took one of those this morning, but have also made an appointment to see my GP again tomorrow afternoon. I don't really know what I'm asking her, except for that the thought of living like this for another 3 months is really scary. I tried Stemetil in my last pregnancy and it had no effect, so if the Cyclizine isn't cutting it I don't really know what I'm suggesting.

Worried she will just say throwing up a couple of times a day is normal and I should just get on with it (and worried she would be right to say that!)

LT x

LightTripper · 28/07/2016 12:29

Hope your meetings went OK and you are managing to get away this afternoon MrsE xx

SleepymrsE · 28/07/2016 12:44

I've just for home lt and forcing some toast down and a drink as I've just not wanted to eat or drink anything all morning. Planning on having a nap shortly which hopefully will help. Bloods yesterday showed I'm still quite anaemic so that is probably making me feel worse. Got an appointment with doc on Monday to discuss. If I were you lt I would possibly ask for some ondansatron as well as cyclizine? It's what quite a few of us on this thread have had to do. Things do get better around the 16-20 week mark although nausea never seemed to go away. Now at 30 weeks the sickness has ramped up a bit again unfortunately.

LightTripper · 28/07/2016 13:30

Hope some toast and sleep does you good MrsE. I have heard it can ramp up at the end. Hope it doesn't get any worse than now at least. I can't remember, do you already have DC? Any plans on when you will start to take ML?

MotherofPearl · 28/07/2016 15:22

Huge congratulations Ickle, your little DD is adorable, and I'm so pleased that your HG journey is at an end! Warm welcome to the Pink Castle!

LightTripper · 28/07/2016 16:30

Just saw this on FB and it made me smile (while panting and feeling shit obv).

"This too shall pass ... it might pass like it kidney stone but it shall pass".

mrsmonkey14 · 28/07/2016 18:48

Omg congrats ickle what a wonderful early release! Glad to hear baby is well and labour was good.

DD2 is 8 days old and HG is but a distant memory, you'll all be pleased to hear I've been able to eat normally as soon as she was born. Been eating loads, lots of salads and fish etc that I couldn't face at all during preg. I am avoiding all the 'HG' food I've been eating for last few months though!

Things going well but having breastfeeding struggles so been v preoccupied with that.

Good luck and much sympathy to all those suffering xx

MotherofPearl · 28/07/2016 19:10

MrsMonkey, just read back through the thread - I'm so out of date - and seen the news of your happy release from HG and the arrival of your DD! Lovely to come back and hear about the new babies.
Sorry to hear that many of the poor old veterans - Special, Sleepy, Rae, Lucy - are still suffering and soldiering on. Sorry too to see there are new joiners (well new to me; I've not been on the thread much since my DD was born in May), but you're in the right place. This is a hugely supportive thread and got me through two HG pregnancies. Has Eallison been on here of late? I remember her saying about TTC and wondered if there was any news?
Waves to Lucinda and everyone.

RaeSkywalker · 28/07/2016 20:36

Sleepy so so sorry to hear you're struggling. Did you manage a nap at least?

Light good luck with your GP! Emphasise the impact on your quality of life. I agree about ondansetron- not sure how often it is initiated in primary care though (hopefully someone wiser than me will come along soon to advise).

mrsmonkey glad you're eating well now! Sorry to hear about the breastfeeding problems- have you been able to get any help?

Mother so lovely to hear from you! I haven't seen eallison recently, hope all is well there.

I'm exhausted and very nauseous tonight. Time for bed soon I think!

Lucinda I hope you've recovered from your migraine?

LucindaE · 28/07/2016 21:00

MotherofPearl Lovely to have you back on. Your advice is always so good. No news yet from eallison
mrsmonkey Lovely to hear from you. Baby over a week old already? No more of juice of tinned fruit and cheap ice cream eh? Not sure if you cold endure that at the end...So glad you feel fine.
amysmummy Lovely to hear from you, too.
SleepymrsE You poor thing! There are other drugs they can try, so do ask. Combinations often work better than single ones.
Rae Sorry you feel bad.
Waves to all.
I'll be going away for a few days on Saturday, but lovely MotherofPearl hopes to be able to look in if the reception is OK in Devon.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked. Complained to Ombudsman about BT and internet access.

LightTripper 'Grin about 'This Too Shall Pass... ' Frequency of vomiting is not the only sign that your sickness is abnormal - how debilitating the nausea is, is also a factor and can lead to serious dehydration too...

LightTripper · 29/07/2016 17:15

Hi all! Tried the GP again today and she gave me a prescription for metoclopramide, so crossing everything that works. Seems I can take Cyclizine alongside, but if the Metoclopramide seems to be helping I might try dropping it to see if it is adding anything or not.

Trying not to get my hopes up too much but anyway, feels good to have a shot at an improvement.

RaeSkywalker · 29/07/2016 18:48

Light I really hope the new meds work for you.

Lucinda hope you have a lovely break! Sorry that your IT issues are ongoing.

I'm shattered. Such a long, stressful week! DH is out tonight so I think I'll head up to bed soonish. Going to see if I can sleep in tomorrow! Then we're staying in a hotel tomorrow night (going to a christening on Sunday and it's a couple of hours away). I'm quite looking forward to a change of scene but hoping that I won't be too pukey.

It's quiet on here today- hope everyone is ok Flowers

LucindaE · 29/07/2016 19:11

Rae Sorry it's been an exhausting week. Good luck with the christening.
Have a good night.
LightTripper I'm glad you've got new meds. Some people find it really good and I hope it works for you. I'm glad the GP is working hard at trying to relieve things by suggesting you can take both if necessary...
Look after yourselves, everyone. With luck MotherofPearl will be looking in now and then . I hope the quietness on the thread is a good, not a bad, sign.

MotherofPearl · 29/07/2016 19:45

Light, hope the meto makes a difference for you. If not you really mustn't hesitate to go back to your GP and ask to try something else.
Rae, sorry to hear you've had a tough week. An early night sounds wise. Good luck with the hotel and christening tomorrow. At least a change in routine makes the time pass a bit faster.
I'm lying here feeding DD who is 12 weeks old already. I can't quite believe how fast these weeks have sped past compared to how time dragged during the pregnancy. And even though I'm tired most of the time now, it's nothing like the total lack of energy that accompanies HG. So hang in there for better days ahead!

MotherofPearl · 29/07/2016 19:46

Cross-posted Lucinda! Yes I'll be doing my best to check in. Hope the visit to your mother goes as well as possible under the circs.

Vixxfacee · 29/07/2016 19:50

Hi everyone. How are you all doing?
I am 14 weeks now and the sickness started to disappear properly about 10 days ago. I've only been sick twice in that time. Still have a sicky feeling in the afternoons and evenings but amazingly the cyclizine is doing its job. I tried to reduce from 3 to 2 the other day and I was sick.
Just made and ate a steak and chips.

Freshbreadandfaith · 29/07/2016 21:54

How is everyone? I'm 22 weeks. Still on onsansetron and avamine. Nausea controlled on these but I feel worse if I try to leave off a dose. Pelvis very painful, seeing a fantastic physio but still suffering. Exhausted at the end of the day after a 12 hour shift looking after my four year old until oh gets home especially now it's summer hols!! Love to all. Getting most of my kicks into my groin, anyone else getting groin kicks? Xx

icklekid · 30/07/2016 05:13

Hi ladies just popping in to say hi from the pink castle! No longer pregnancy insomnia but early morning feeds! Your post fresh has reminded me of how much I hated being kicked constantly- dd has very strong legs so not surprised was so painful!

Glad your through the worst vixx or certainly for now- seems like worth staying on meds for now though!

I agree with motherofpearl tiredness from dd being up at night makes me emotional but not as exhausted as hg did! Am lying here waiting for blood results for jaundice to see if dd and I can be discharged today...fingers crossed!

LightTripper · 30/07/2016 06:39

Really glad you're starting to feel a bit better Vixx!

I do remember groin kicks Fresh. My DD wasn't a huge kicker, more of a squirmer (maybe cos she's hypermobile?), but yes, when they do kick down you really know about it! Must be bad if you have pelvic pain already though. So unfair to get that and sickness!

Hope you're allowed home today ickle, everything crossed for you!
