I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

blondes I really sympathise! I went to Turkey for what was supposed to be a lovely baby moon (booked before the HG kicked in). Our flight was at 6am - yes, there were a lot of tears in the airport, but miraculously wasn't sick on the plane. There have been a couple of instances where I've started to think the human body is amazing and maybe just "knows" it has to hang on. Maybe I'm going crazy..

I think I spent a grand total of 2 hours in the sun in the whole week! Just couldn't bear to feel hot!

Keep eating, and doing whatever you need to do to enjoy it! Hope the rest helps!

Sorry to be so brief... It's hard to look at a screen...
Just how much worse can HG get? I have no idea how I can cope for much longer.

SleepymrsE · 27/09/2016 13:59

autumn remind me again how far into pregnancy you are and what meds you are on? Sorry, I can't seem to remember without scrolling back through the pages. Unfortunately some people do have HG their whole pregnancy. I have struggled with nausea and occasional sickness despite the meds but it was nowhere near as bad once I got past 25 weeks. Time does seem to drag with a HG pregnancy I will admit.

Autumnsunshinebaby · 27/09/2016 14:14

I'm 11 weeks and on ondansetron

Autumnsunshinebaby · 27/09/2016 14:15

Sorry I pressed send too soon.

Oh no the thought of having this for another 29/30 weeks is too much to bear!

Thanks for replying

SleepymrsE · 27/09/2016 14:25

Hopefully it will ease soon for you autumn, for some by week 16-20 there is often improvement. How often are you still being sick? How are your ketones? It may be worthwhile trying ondansatron combined with another one of the meds. That is what helped many of us on here.

Autumnsunshinebaby · 27/09/2016 14:45

Thanks v much Sleepy, I'll go back to the doctors and see what they can do.

MotherofPearl · 27/09/2016 14:53

Autumn, sorry to hear things are still so bad for you. I'm afraid at 11 weeks you're really in the worst of it. As Sleepy says, many feel significantly better around 16 weeks. I know that feels like an eternity away, but you can do it. Try not to think too far ahead, just congratulate yourself for getting through each day.
Sleepy, glad to hear you're able to rest up a bit more now. Getting so close now!
Welcome back to Blondes and Sally. Are you still on holiday Blondes? It's awful when you start eating something and then just know you can't carry on or you'll be sick. I found chicken (beige!) the most palatable meat once I got through the first trimester (when I barely ate at all).
Sally, how are you feeling now?
Light, nice to hear about a sympathetic HCP for once! I thought you were going to say that they gave you a lecture about meds!
Fresh, I think it's totally understandable to feel annoyed with people who sail through their pregnancies with barely a symptom. I got so irritated with the lack of comprehension about HG. You're getting on towards the last leg now, thank goodness.
Rae, glad you made it to the party on Saturday, but sorry that your weekend was marred by having to do some work. I feel like I can't wait for you to start maternity leave so you can have a rest!
Happy, I think I agree about your body knowing when it needs to hold the sick in (usually!). I dreaded being sick on my train commute, but I never was (although admittedly only went back to work after the first trimester, and then only went in about twice a week). Sometimes on the journey home I could feel it building up, but I'd grit my teeth and then as I walked in the door would race to be sick in the sink, the closest receptacle!!!
Gosh, what a long post - sorry! Salutes back to Lucinda and hope everyone is holding up OK.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2016 15:30

Yes still away. Got another 9days here

Surviving the heat as long as head in shade

Tho sadly I lost dinner last night about 1030pm but luckily back in our apparentment so had privacy

Friends ask how I am and if sick /ok? I reply it's hard to explain but feel constantly sick 24/7 but know if just feel it or will be sick

Def seem better now in 2nd trimester tho still sick

Autumnsunshinebaby · 27/09/2016 15:41

mother of pearl thank you Smile

LucindaE · 27/09/2016 16:06

Hello everyone.

Been catching up on the thread, glad lots of people seem a bit better & hello to the newbies.

I'm 28 weeks on Thursday & still ill. Have given up on thinking it's going away. Now have a really good bald patch right in the middle of my crown. I'm running out of hairstyles to cover it!

Had the whooping cough jab & it's knocked me out for weeks. Been very ill indeed. Seem to get all the luck.

Rae sorry to hear you're still being asked to work so much, can't be long now until you go off.

Waves to all 👋🏼

LucindaE · 28/09/2016 09:48

Lucy Oh dear about bad reaction to whooping cough jab and hair loss. Much sympathy. Don't despair, as people have experienced relief up to 36 weeks into pregnancy, though it's a horribly long time to wait. I think it was Menageatrois who had relief at 36 weeks in her first pregnancy - I remember her well; she alarmed us by having the 'coffee grounds' sort of vomiting - a medical emergency, coming from the stomach. Can you get a hairpiece - perhaps silly advice?

jel2014 · 28/09/2016 12:30

Hi can I join? I don't know if I'm suffering to count as HG but I'm seriously fed up. I'm 12 weeks today with DC2 (hurrah) but it seems to getting worse. With DS I had it until 20 weeks I think, the constant nausea and not eating a lot but I just got on with it. 2nd time around I'm struggling. I feel sick all day and all night. I can eat and drink, mostly beige carbs but what I can stomach changes all most daily. Yesterday and this morning I have been retching, today I brought up bile, what a start. I also have a horrible taste in my mouth the whole time which i don't remember last time. With a 15month to look after and work 3 days and pregnancy tiredness I'm seriously fed up.

My key question is, is it worth me going to see the dr? Am i bad enough to require meds? And do the meds make you even more tired? I need to be able to function. I'm reluctant to go before my scan on Friday in case i jinx it all...

LightTripper · 28/09/2016 15:06

Hello jel2014! Welcome to the thread.

You sound about where I was. I was throwing up but only once or twice a day, and the main problem was just feeling awful all the bloody time (mornings just about bearable, but after about 4pm I had to be lying down or I was on the edge of throwing up or actually doing it).

Personally I did find drugs helpful. I ended up taking cyclizine and metoclopramide together. I think the cyclizine helped a bit with feeling sick, but the metoclopramide helped more with not being sick, but it's hard to ever be sure. Either way I know when I tried reducing my dose I felt worse, so I'm confident they were making me feel better. Still not well: I don't want to promise a miracle cure - but they maybe took off the worst 20%, and made it so I was only throwing up every 2-3 days rather than every day, so it was an improvement worth having.

I've also found that while I was throwing up until 20 weeks with my DD, this time I had my last vom (hopefully!) a couple of weeks ago at 16 weeks. I'm pretty sure that is the pills too. I've now gone down from 3 to 2 pills a day and will try going down to 1 in the next week or so.

It is still a slog, honestly, but for me the pills have been a big help in just getting through the day.

Both can make you sleepy, and they did me, but the effects were worse the first few days and then I didn't seem to notice it too much, so maybe it's worth starting on a non-working day (or maybe a working day is easier with a 15 month old Grin!)

It might be worth mentioning at your scan. I had a reassurance scan at 7 weeks and it was with a consultant nurse, and she was able to give me a box of cyclizine there and then. So maybe you could ask their advice on Friday and then if they aren't helpful try your GP next week?

Hang on in there, you are right in the worst bit I think. It is so depressing I know - sending you Flowers.

And for you too Lucy. So sorry you are still suffering too much. Here's hoping it lifts soon.

LucyHMK · 28/09/2016 15:15

jel2014 sorry you're suffering. Yes to the docs, for sure. Particularly if it's getting worse. I've been on all the pills it seems, and they try you out on one type before moving to the next. None have worked on me (other than Odansetron), so it's worth trying them sooner rather than later. Give them 3 days before you make a judgement on both the tiredness & sickness front.

Thank you, Light , today has not been a good one. Coughing makes me more sick & this morning was just horrendous, was ThisClose to going to the hospital, but have managed to keep down a couple of drinks this afternoon which has eased my headache.

Lucinda - trump style?! 🐹 I'm so in with the ginger toupe idea (I have dark brown hair - it'll be a "look"!).

This pregnancy lark is so very glam!

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/09/2016 15:16

Jel. You sound like me. Bloody beige carbs yet sometimes still sick

Medication def helped. I suffer for 4/5w as didn't know if normal or not as never been preg

Reading on here etc decided the constant sickness - retching - feeling sick etc wasn't normal

Took few weeks to get into my system but def better then what I was

Go and see gp

MotherofPearl · 28/09/2016 15:54

Welcome Jel. You've already had excellent advice from Light and others. I'd certainly agree that it's worth seeing your GP and trying some medication: why suffer needlessly, when there are lots of safe options to try. Good luck for your scan on Friday.
Blondes, sorry to hear about dinner loss last night! It's awful when you think you've got away with it, and then a meal makes an unwelcome reappearance hours later (often totally undigested, seemingly).
Lucy, sorry to hear you've had such a hopeless day. Argh. Funny Lucinda should mention hairpieces and then you mentioned The Donald (!) and his ridiculous hair: I've realised that poor DD2 (only 4.5 months) has the exact same hair as Trump's (at least at the back)!! I'll try to add a photo to give you all a laugh.
